I dig Maduka's socks.

Could be one heck of a weekend for her - she won All-American honors Friday night with an 8th place in the long jump finals at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Arkansas.

BTW, in case anyone hasn't figured it out, on the CornellBigRed.com site, the article about the women's game has a link to listen live, there's a typo that results in you being taken to WBBR, not WVBR.  I used this link to connect:

Cornell up 47-26, but in foul trouble.

The announcer has the awful tendency to refer to the school in Cambridge as 'Hahvad'.

Why the 'oops', Ben?

During halftime, there was a rather interesting interview with the departing Ivy Director, Jeff Orleans.

A bunch of questions were asked about the possibility of an Ivy Hoops tournament, and Orleans suggested that it would just be a matter of the coaches coming to an agreement about the setup (how many teams would be included, whether or not most games would be played on the higher seed's court, etc.)

They just showed some footage of the Cornell stands. Pretty good crowd. They don't seem very loud however, considering the history that is being made.

64-47. Final. Cornell women invited to Dance. First time in Ivy League history that both the men's and women's teams invited to the Dance are from the same school.

I'm really not the best person to speak about this, but last year Harvard had a 15 seed and lost to Maryland in the first round by 24 points.

Great time at the Columbia gym this afternoon. Team played with huge effort and wasn't missing a shot in the first 10 minutes. Dartmouth never had a chance.  Strange refereeing' letting them play all first half and funding all the whistles in the 2nd half.

Disagree with the earlier assessment of the crowd. The Cornell contingent was in to it the whole time and chanting often. All on our feet in the last 2 minutes chanting.

Kudos to the trumpets for getting to the game.

Let's Go Red!!!

There is only so much noise you can make during a blowout without feeling like a jerk. This was a dominant win from the opening tip to the final buzzer - the Big Green never had a chance.

Cornell got great play from so many players, but my unsung-hero for the game was backup guard Lacey Workman (#3) - she went after every rebound and loose ball when she was in the game. Relentless. Jeomi Maduka had moments when it looked like she was playing a different game than the other 9 on the floor, but mostly I thought Dartmouth defended her very well, but they were unable to defend the rest of Cornell 3 on 4. Cornell moved the ball very, very well and always found the open shooter.

Here's hoping Cornell gets a trip to lovely West Lafayette, IN. The bracket projection I saw on ESPN had Cornell as a #15 seed playing Rutgers in Des Moines Iowa.

Quit being greedy! It's bad enough the men are playing in Anaheim. Let's at least have the women's team sent to Bridgeport, where they can be a No. 16 seed and play UConn in the first round. At least we'll be able to have a decent amount of fans at the game!

Hey, ELFers in CT (Southern New England) or the Tri-State area... You will all be in Albany rooting on the hockey team. ;-). If the Cornell women are going to be sent to the midwest, I'm just putting in my 2 cents for IN, not IA.

Here is a tidbit for the optimists out there.
10 years ago the Harvard women "upset" Stanford 71-67 in the NC$$ first round 1 v. 16 game at Maples Pavilion. I say "upset" because Stanford was without 2 key players.

Agreed, but she either needs to learn better shot selection or leave the offense to others.  Not that it was a big deal today, but in a close game she can't be throwing bricks with ten left on the shot clock just because she's on the floor - she has a role, and she's great at it.

There are some AP Photos (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/photos?gameId=280760172) of the game and post-game at espn.com. The victory is also a top story headline on the Women's Bball frontpage (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/womenbb/index) which links to the game article/recap (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/recap?gameId=280760172)

There are also more photos and video available from the Ivy League sports (http://ivyplayoff.wordpress.com/) site.

Gotta say, I was at the game and the women played very well...composed, with class, and shear determination. The crowd was fantastic and it was great to have the band and mascot present.  I've followed the women for the past 6 years. Although painful at times to watch, am so glad the hard work of the staff paid off. Although I am not a Corenll grad, could not be more proud to be associated with the team. Good luck!

Ouch, the women get the #16 and will face UConn in the first round.

No respect for the Ivy autobids this year ::cuss::

I don't believe that Cornell is the worst team in the bracket. This sucks. (Dartmouth, on the other hand, might have been a legit #64 - their OOC record was awful.)

I agree with ugarte and Jordan!  Unfortunately because the women's game is not as popular they try and keep teams within their region.  It does stink as Bucknell and Syracuse got better first round games.  We beat Bucknell handily and did not play the improved Syracuse team.

On the "upside", according to cornellbigred.com, this massacre is going to be televised by ESPN2. Those of us who aren't going to Bridgeport can all watch for a few minutes until it becomes too painful and we switch to something less depressing - like CNN or Rachael Ray.

The fact that Rachael Ray is popular depresses me to begin with.
