Proving how much they pay attention, many of Swami's "Big Boyz" comment about the potential impact of the altitude for Cornell's next game. :-|

430 ft above sea level... look out! Almost as high up as Chapel Hill and almost half as high up as Ithaca.
Edit: Haven't been able to get media so I can't update much up top.
I didnt.::banana::::banana::

Early season poll madness...
What's going on with these things?...
Being wrong is always a risk for rankers, but being stupid in another thing completely...
Why did everyone but the Swami have Hopkins ranked at #1 (the Swami had Hopkins at #5 for the past two weeks)? Hopkins best win was over a weak Princeton (the Tigers only win has been over Canisius). Maryland defeated Georgetown during the season's first week. Duke then defeated Maryland by a score if 15-7. Both of those teams deserved to be ranked above the Blue Jays and, in fact, had defeated tougher teams.
Among the most egregious non-sequitur of early polling was the Baltimore Sun's ranking Navy at #6 last week. This was fully three places above the Cornell team that had beaten the Midshipmen the week before. But this week, Navy slipped to #13. Navy's only game in the interim was a 14-3 defeat of Lehigh.
And Maryland is ranked too low by almost everyone. Maryland's decisive victory over Georgetown is still one of the best wins by Top Ten teams and the Terps only loss is to #1 Duke.
Emphasis added...
Right, Swami. Maryland lost to UMBC last night in triple OT.
Syracuse just beat Hopkins in overtime 14-13. They have a lot of offensive firepower.
Syracuse just beat Hopkins in overtime 14-13. They have a lot of offensive firepower.
And JHU isn't a big fan of OT.

Hobart almost pulled off a second big win for the central NY set, losing in OT to Georgetown.
Yikes! Duke 13, UNC 4 in the third.
Princeton over Hofstra, 11-6.
Final, Duke 19-9 over UNC. As of now the Blue Devils look unstoppable, but there's a lot of season left.

For anyone that watches or has ever seen "Lil' Bush" on Comedy Central, Duke Lacrosse got a quick mention,
Final, Duke 19-9 over UNC. As of now the Blue Devils look unstoppable, but there's a lot of season left.
If Duke goes all the way, they'll be so insufferable Harvard will sue for infringement.

Just found this courtesy of a link at cornellbigred.com: http://bearwirevideo.com/webcasting.htm
Game postposted 30 minutes - now 8:30 eastern - due to weather
Video is up. Cornell starting their warm-ups.
Anybody trying to watch on a Mac? I keep getting a "server not responding" message. Can anyone post a direct link for me to cut/paste into windows media player?
Thanks in advance.
Rita, I can't get it to work in WMP either, but it works fine in QuickTime if you have Flip4Mac installed.
My problem is the connection doesn't seem like its keeping up with the video speed by a bit (my connection should be plenty fast).
Thanks Fred. It loaded in Quicktime, but I also seem to have a choppy connection.
I think the direct url is:
mms://65.117.146.16/TV
I tried from Em's Dell and it still rebuffers regularly - so it not a Mac thing. Its also not our connection. A speed test from both our computers measures at 28XX kpbs downstream. The video says ~100K/sec or ~800 kbps. It seems Cornell fans overload yet another server ;)
If you read the help on their website they want you to not buffer at all, but I tried that and its still terrible. Now stopping and starting every 2 seconds.
I haven't had a problem at all on a five year old Windows laptop with WMP.
And thankfully, they have gotten rid of the waving American flag graphic.
Try this:
mms://65.117.146.16/TV
Denver scores early off the face-off.
This is a really nice feed.
2-0. Bad guys.
Is this a replay of the uNC game?
That's what we're using, Meta.
2-2. New game.
Has this guy been drinking?
That's what we're using, Meta.
Odd. Usually I have a lot of problems with Redcast, etc. But not tonight.
The announcers are pretty bad on the video feed, and I'm not really getting video half the time. Thinking of just switching to the audio feed from redcast.
Choppy feed on my Mac with Quicke time and the audio through Redcast is non-existent.
3-2. Denver scores from point blank.
3-3. "Is this lacrosse or ping pong?"
The announcer likes to repeat himself.
3-3. "Is this lacrosse or ping pong?"

Texans are confused showing up at a football field and having some other sport there.
Redcast isn't perfect, but the Tech support staff does acknowledge your emails. At least it isn't my tecnical ineptitude.
"Cornell is having some issues with their feed. They will have the feed up and working ASAP."
Yup, I got a very quick response from Redcast too:
"Hello Fred,
Unfortunately, Cornell is experiencing some technical difficulties streaming tonight's event. They are in the process of sorting this out. We will let you know as soon as the audio is up and running. I apologize for your inconvenience.
ICS Tech Support"
Hurley just waltzes into the crease. 5-3 Cornell. And then Glynn rifles one in. 6-3.
Our Texan friend, the announcer, seems to be rooting for Denver.
And Romero! 7-3.
Next time Al, just PM Rita and me with the link and keep everyone else off our damn server! ::bang::
J/k... kinda ;)

Deal...if you guys reciprocate.
I just reconnected through WMP on another computer without a hitch. Maybe the server just likes my FiOS connection?
The announcer just likened the lacrosse game to hockey. Do they even have ice down there?
Cornell with the EMO.
I am trying to follow this game using Laxpower LAGR and eLynah since I can't get any sort of live feed, so continuing regular updates with details would really be appreciated!

I have given up. Quicktime works for about 30 seconds and then resets back to the beginning. Redcast audio is still out (and they have a note to that effect in the "live events" menu).
Our Texan friend, the announcer, seems to be rooting for Denver.
As they should. This whole event, from the field to the broadcast, is being brought to us by Highland Park High School in Dallas -- one of the few big prep programs in Texas. A bunch of their grads are on the Denver roster. Home cookin' to be expected.
I just reconnected through WMP on another computer without a hitch. Maybe the server just likes my FiOS connection?
Ooo, look at you... 'I have FIOS'... la deee frickin' do!
< waiting less and less patiently for FIOS here ;) >
QuoteThe announcer just likened the lacrosse game to hockey. Do they even have ice down there?
Only in Midland (see McKee, David).
This is some pretty crappy streaming quality, but it's free so I guess I shouldn't complain.
7-4; better start winning face-offs; Glynn 8-4
John Glynn scores, 8-4 CU. Announcer can't get past his name.
That was nice. When they're pressing on D, there should be openings just like that one: 9-4
This is some pretty crappy streaming quality, but it's free so I guess I shouldn't complain.
I guess crappy free video beats our MIA pay audio tonight. But not by much. I'm with Rita on this one, i've given up, its not watchable. Hoping RedCast comes through.
That was nice. When they're pressing on D, there should be openings just like that one: 9-4
That was Finn in front with a nice overhand finish off a pass from behind the goal.
Finn and then Siebald. 10-4. Red.
We're now getting a fairly detailed description of the sport: Lacrosse balls are hard. The players wear helmets.
Interesting fact: Highland Park is the 19th richest town in the U.S.

Hurley with the 1st-half hattrick. 11-4.
Glynn from Hurley on man up. 12-4
Hurley with the hat trick.
And then Glynn.
Empty the bench?
Is Empty Net in goal for Denver?
On the Glynn goal, it looked like it went off both the defenseman as well as the goalie.

In Texas, the standard of comparison for an area through which you're supposed to guide a ball is football goalposts. A lacrosse goal is TINY compared to them.

No. "These are two of the best Division I lacrosse programs in the country."
Definitely two of the best 50.
Nice to see the offense look relaxed and confident for a change.
Is anyone else having the feed come in perfectly when they're not playing but as soon as the ball is put in play, it dies? I'm giving up on the video, those of you who can get it to work well, keep the updates coming!
Score...I just tuned in again, and have constant buffering.
J Dickenson for Denver on first man up of the game for Denver
14-5
14-5. Jubilation on the announcer's part.
Just heard 14-5. Wow.
15-5. Richie.
My highlight of the half was when the announcer adopted Marlon Brando's 'Godfather' voice after Romero scored.
Nice to see the offense look relaxed and confident for a change.
Someone on laxpower wrote something about "If they [Denver] execute the pressure d." I thought we handled the "pressure d" very well, easily finding the open man in front of the net. Very encouraging on offense so far.
I'm glad I don't feel compelled to watch this. I started and then gave up. All your comments sure made me quit trying. Thanks for the updates.
16-4 M. Corbolotti, unassisted
Both Corbolotti's on the board.
Hurley stick checks the goalie outside the crease. Siebald? With the ENG.
17-5 Ritchie, his 3rd of the game
and COrnell man up
Man up score for Cornell, Hurley from M. Corbolotti
Don't people get all pissy when you run up the score in lacrosse?
Hurley just barely makes it in the top left corner. 18-5 Red.
We'll see if Tambroni believes in the "19-goal rule."

Hard to justify calling off the dogs halfway through the third quarter, but I imagine they'll do something.
Don't people get all pissy when you run up the score in lacrosse?
What do you do then in lax? Just start jogging around the field with the ball? I can understand taking the foot off the gas pedal, but at some point, you have to run an offensive play, no?
Doctor fom Webb 19-6
Doctor from Webb. 19-6.
Jeez, he pulled "the Doctor is in" routine, too.

I think it's in the process of being cleared. Be nice to get a view at Lau, etc.
Martinez in for Myers.
Guy makes a good point about the "effectiveness of FieldTurf." All that rain all day and almost no footing issues, no pools, no rolling balls coming to a stop near the sideline.
4th Quarter.
So not only did the Dookies get an extra year of elgibility, but this guy retroactively awarded them the national championship last year ::crazy::
Grom unassisted 20-7
This is Texas. Duke won the national championship and George W. Bush still has high approval ratings.
20-7. Carnelian and white.
Grom, 20-7. When's the last time we hit 20?
Guy makes a good point about the "effectiveness of FieldTurf." All that rain all day and almost no footing issues, no pools, no rolling balls coming to a stop near the sideline.
Isn't Schoelkopf slated for some FieldTurf soon? I've played Ultimate on it before. It's very nice.
1993. 22-12 over Colgate. Empty Net for Colgate and His Twin Brother Vacant Net played Goal for Cornell.
Grom, 20-7. When's the last time we hit 20?
Indeed. I stand corrected.
Video quality perfect after the final whistle.::demented::
So did Denver just have an off-night? They have beat Colgate, Penn, and Brown, while only losing by one to UNC-CH.
EDIT: Or maybe the visiting teams couldn't handle the mile-high altitude...
Denver has been a big disappointment this season. Lots of folks, me included, had picked 'em to finish in the lower reaches of the top 10 or 12. It's a shame, because this win likely won't help Cornell's at-large-bid argument much.
Cornell's offense is built to exploit teams like Denver that extend their defense. It also helped that Denver's defenders tried all kinds of bullshit high-risk stick checks after losing their men.
This game may mark the end of a four-man rotation at attack. Ritchie doesn't have very quick feet, but he's probably a better complement to Hurley and Finn than Doctor, and despite his deserved reputation as a feeder (did you see that sweet long feed to Finn?), Titchie seems to be a more reliable finisher than Doctor too. High-to-low.
Also nice to see Romero perhaps settling into his place as the third middie on the first line. I like.
I'm pleased that Seibald is playing within himself. By not forcing the issue despite what must be formidable internal pressure to live up to all the national hype, he has allowed some of Cornell's other less-tested offensive players to develop some swagger.
With Romero and Gradinger coming back to fitness and form, this team is ready to make a run. The only head-scratcher is goal.
