however you're getting the score you're ahead of me. i just saw the score (via video on b2net) as i opened up elynah and saw your new post.
End of one. 40 long minutes to go.

Very rare to have a spoiler on a message board. It just so happened that Sawada put it in just as I was reaching for the "post" button, so it was easy to fix. I'm also audio only tonight, which is about a minute ahead of the b2 video, from what we experienced in the chat room last night.
End of one. 40 long minutes to go.
So glad it's the 40 long minutes, compared to 40 short ones when your down. It was huge getting on the board first.
Most of the way through Period 1 on Sunday and no game thread. We're officially trigger-shy.
Well, I was yelling "Start the darn thread" from my couch, but like the guys on the ice during a PP, no one was listening....:-P.
I'm just superstitious and haven't had a winning game thread.
I was very worried early in the first when we picked up 2 penalties and gave Dartmouth a 5-3, but we killed it off and now are playing with the lead.
LGR!
Audio quality tonight on RedCast is dreadful. It sounds like a radio that is in desperate need of tuning. Lots of static and distortion (as if you were trying to pull in WHCU from 3 miles outside of Ithaca). There have been a couple points at commercial breaks where the audio cut out as if someone was trying to work on it.
b2's pretty far behind the Redcast audio.
Dartmouth's free audio is pretty good quality, and isn't cutting out ever 7-10 seconds like last night.

B. Nash!
Yeah, B. Nash.
Still about 35 long minutes left.
Time for the Faithful to not quit for the next hour and bring 'em home.
Time for the Faithful to not quit for the next hour and bring 'em home.
Well, I think home is where many of them are right now anyway...
Let's keep the pressure on, LGR.
At least I can drink tonight (listening at home, near Boston). I usually don't drink before or during games, but last night I found myself wishing that the concession stand sold margarita's (or better yet, shots) rather than just Pepsi products.::panic::
LGR!
Nash goal called off for offsides.
Darthmouth announcer was certainly surprised.
Gallagher!!
3-0!
Nash goal called off for offsides.

Huh?
Gallagher!!
Gallagher! YES!
Gaudet calls timeout, complains to referee John Murphy. Interesting use of your only TO.

The officials apparently didn't blow the play dead.
OK, we've erased the dreaded 2-goal lead. Keep it going, Red!
Way to go Red. We need a big lead after two - I'll be boarding a plane from Tokyo to Shanghai.
Gaudet calls timeout, complains to referee John Murphy. Interesting use of your only TO.
Must have been complaining about the the trip just before the pass to Gallagher.
Well, I think home is where many of them are right now anyway...
I don't have the video feed, but the crowd sounds pretty loud. I hope that the Faithful are still practicing...
Hmm. Maybe I should log off. I turn on the sound and we get a penalty.

The pace of IAYF was great.
Sawada! On th delayed penalty.
4-0!
Sawada!!!!
Sawada!
Do you think he's making up for a rather ho-hum season this weekend?
Score 4-0! Sawada on a delayed penalty!
Sawada on the delayed penalty! Yes, yes, yes!
Who is this Ray Sawada guy and where has he been all season?
4-0 Red!!!
YES!!!! SAWADA!
Sawada. 1,2,3,4 we want more.
DE-VIIIIINE IS A GREAT BIG SIEVE, GREAT BIG SIEVE, GREAT BIG SIEVE.
DE-VIIIIINE IS A GREAT BIG SIEVE, HE LET THE PUCK GO BY...
Who was down on the delayed penalty. M. Kennedy?
We want Grossman! (Or Weder)
DE-VIIIIINE IS A GREAT BIG SIEVE, GREAT BIG SIEVE, GREAT BIG SIEVE.

...FOUR TIMES!
Holding off the initial Dartmouth assault (shots were 11-1 at one point) would be the difference if we win this one.
Krueger in the box.
Gaudet called for a bad hit on a CU player. Trainers on the ice.
Taylor Davenport down on the ice due to a high stick by Gaudet the younger. Audio recount only (I'm not watching the video).
Jason seems to think Barlow will pick up a penalty in retaliation.
Gaudet gets only 2 min.
Barlow with a double minor.
Hurt player is Davenport. Being helped off the ice.
CU player = Taylor Davenport
Gaudet junior is a goon
I wish in hockey you could send in the benchwarmers. Especially against a Gaudet-coached (and Gaudet-played) team with a 4-0 lead.
Gaudet called for a bad hit on a CU player.
Why am I not surprised? Like poppa, like son.
Barlow with a double minor?
is the crowd saying "your kid sucks?"
(probably just "Dartmouth sucks")
Gotta stay cool, however. Game's not over and if we go on to win there's a game next Friday. Would be nice to play it at full strength.
Joe Devin gets 2 also. Joe Gaudet gets a misconduct. Dartmouth up 5-3
Isn't J Devin just serving the second penalty for Barlow (so someone can come out of the box)?
End of 2.
And we have a Kevan Melrose finalist.
Isn't J Devin just serving the second penalty for Barlow (so someone can come out of the box)?
No idea. The Dartmouth announcer didn't even know Gaudet got a misconduct until play started with CU two men down.
The good part is he couldn't hear Arthur over the noise of the Faithful.
Rats. My plane lands 6 hours late at 7:25, I log on as we taxi to see ... no bleeping eLynah thread ... is the game still on? .... I hustle home, log on (no thanks to Cornell for not posting the logon info on the big red sports home page) ... and Cornell is up 3-0. Need a time warp transporter to get me home faster. Let's hope this holds up. LGR. Looks like this is not shaping up to be the Clarkson / Quinnipiac fiascos of years past.
I don't think the Cornell announcers have mentioned a misconduct for Gaudet (and I didn't see it on LiveStats). Guess we'll find out ~7 seconds into the third.
Turns out Gaudet did get 2. Rita had it right.
Colgate 2-0 over SLU(t)
Dartmouth radio guy essential doing the postmortem on Mike Devine's career during the 2nd intermission.
Devin!
5-0!
Devin!!!! 5-0!!!
Score 5-0! Devin! :)
Devin from the Blue Line!
Dartmouth radio guy essential doing the postmortem on Mike Devine's career during the 2nd intermission.
All he wants is one goal so Devine's last game doesn't have to be a loss by shutout.
Of course, with the 5th going in from the blue-line...I don't think Devine's career is worthy of that much sentimentality.
M. Devin!
I'm still not really willing to take a breather.
Way to go Red. We need a big lead after two - I'll be boarding a plane from Tokyo to Shanghai.
Now 5-0, Mike Devin (Greening). I think this might be enough for you to board that plane.
Have a safe flight.

Yeah, I found that a little odd. The shutout is no reflection on Devine, obviously. If I were him, I would have instead wished for Cornell to not score any more so Devine didn't have to go out with a 5+ spot.
Oh well, too late. :)
What's the opposite of "Devine intervention"?
Mike Devin beats Mike Devine.
There was a funny sequence on the Dartmouth broadcast where a student sitting in Hanover opined that Dartmouth has Cornell right where they want them, because not only does the Green have the firepower to come back from 4-0, but now there's no reason to hold anything back. "How long can Scrivens stay in this game??" I believe was the verbatim rhetorical question.
Now 3-1 'Gate in Hamilton.
Yeah.my guess is Cornell will get at least one more breakaway.
Sawada called for charging.

More to the point, what type of green weed is he smoking?(http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/images/smilies/au.gif)
Scali with a breakaway. Dartmouth penalty. Now 4 on 4.
close. scali with some wheels.
Even strength.

Don Cherry (?): Nothing as dangerous as a 4-goal lead.
Tubas!!!
Kennedy!!!!
Patrick Kennedy!
6-0 Patrick Kennedy.
Wow!
Now they really have us where they want us! LGR!
Dartmouth announcer: "This one pretty much done."
Not woofing, but "pretty much?"
Still, this series was too close for comfort.
Sort of like today's EIWA wrestling championship, where Penn had a great final day (three champions), Cornell stumbled to the finish line (one champion), yet hung on by a half-point over Penn for the team championship.
I must say, it's a nice way to finish out a season at Lynah. Especially against a team that has provided frustration in recent years. Now if only Topher can get a goal...
Union's going to be ready for us, though.
Dartmouth announcer saying some of the Dartmouth players have exams tomorrow morning, as early as 8:00 AM. Hope that bus is getting warmed up (or started, depending on your preference).

The pressure will be on not to become the answer to this trivia question:
"Who did Union defeat to win their first d-I playoff series?"

Silly trimester system.
Game over!
Now he says he's becoming a Union fan.
::asshole::
Shoot. Ray just broke his "lucky" stick. I hope the new one also has some goals in it and "works" in Schenectady.
LGR!
D announcer couldn't understand what the students were chanting at Devine (it was "ugly" as I assume he had his helmet up), but hailed Devine as being the "epitome of class" in not responding to them. Really. Was he the epitome of class when he was taunting the student section at the end of Saturday's game?
D broadcaster also says that he's suddenly a big Union fan.
All ribbing aside, this guy was actually pleasurable to listen to for an opposing radio guy...even with the self-aware homerism. He calls a good game, pays attention to describe the fans and the atmosphere, be it positive or negative to his interest. Really, the opposite of the Brown or SLU guys.
Now he says he's becoming a Union fan.

Yeah, I'll give him that. No bitching about the officiating, either. He was pretty good.
Now the guy back in the studio he kept throwing it back to sounded like he was stoned.

Have to agree on both counts. He obviously gets excited when good things happen for Dartmouth, but he's pretty objective overall.
As for the other guy in the studio, he seemed a little reality-challenged. I guess he figured if Brown could erase a 5-goal deficit, anyone can.
That was a great game!
to finish a season at lynah like that was great!
Change to the scoring on Raymond Sawada's second goal. Add assists to Justin Kruegerand Ben Scrivens!!!
Larry '72
That was a great game!
Second that. That's what I call playing with intensity. Not so much the score (which was terrific), rather the effort, energy, and attention to detail. I recall one play where someone took it off and it almost cost the team a goal. One play in 60 minutes. If they bring that effort to Union good things will happen.
LGR...
could anyone else see the HUGE grin on Ray's face as he stepped into the box?
Isn't J Devin just serving the second penalty for Barlow (so someone can come out of the box)?
As was said later in the thread, Anne was correct. They actually sent Barlow to the locker room since it was 2 min. to go and he had 4 min. in penalties. As much as I think Barlow hasn't played up to potential, I'm happy he did what he did. The penalty by Gaudet was vicious. Barlow saw it and just came and took him out. I don't think we should have been penalized more than they were however.
The crowd was great, on Stephens and Johnson all night. The students had Johnson and I heard a lot of townies after Stephens. Hopefully Stephens will learn to clean it up, otherwise he'll be in a lot of trouble in future years.
Hooray Townies for giving the Dartmouth bench so much crap after the Gaudet hit on Davenport that Arthur had to page security to hurry over to the M/N aisle.
This had to be one of the worst officiated games I've seen. In addition to the called off icings in the first period, Murphy was very inconsistent. It went both ways, but mainly favored Dartmouth. The most blatant missed call on us was when Brendon Nash just took down one of their players by climbing over his back along the boards. I had to yell "Murphy sucks" on that one it was so blatant. I still can't figure out the icings in the first period.
Another great idea for a TBRW table would be the number of times, "This had to be one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen!" was uttered per game/season. You could also see how that correlates with winning/losing seasons, strength of officiating, etc.
Seriously though, I feel like I hear this a lot, especially this year (which I guess proves my point).
Yeah, I know, why couldn't I put everything in one post. However I need to post two more points. First, this weekend shows why it's so important to have senior leadership. Sawada really stepped it up on offense, although defense suffered yesterday. Five goal weekend, and he's certainly not an offensive power. If our underclassmen can pick it up as upperclassmen we can have some good years coming up.
Second, I know Ari doesn't like the line matchups that Schafer goes for, but Fontas' line has been great. No goals by their first line and Johnson and Wyman have 35 and 30 points this season. They far outdistance anyone else on their team. They are a big reason why we win.
The most blatant missed call on us was when Brendon Nash just took down one of their players by climbing over his back along the boards. I had to yell "Murphy sucks" on that one it was so blatant. I still can't figure out the icings in the first period.
The funny thing about that particular incident is that Murphy watched it happen and waved it off. Officiating was horrible both ways; it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt. Hopefully Taylor is alright.
Fontas' line has been great. No goals by their first line and Johnson and Wyman have 35 and 30 points this season. They far outdistance anyone else on their team. They do, also, generate some scoring chances, which is remarkable considering that their job is to shut down the other team's top line.
Union isn't top-heavy the way Dartmouth was. I would be surprised if Mike changed any of the lines, since they all worked well this weekend (with the Sawada and Fontas lines off the charts), but that will change the checking line's usage. It's a good thing, too, since we don't have last change.
I think arthur was calling security to protect himself.. not dartmouth.
