Princeton/UVa on ESPN at the moment. Must be a slow day for ESPN.
1-0 UVa early.
UVa up 6-5 at halftime on a rainy day in NJ.
The conditions are getting silly. 9-5 Hoos.
Looks sloppy in Ithaca too. Army 2-1 early. Sounds like Jason is doing the radio doubleheader today (with hoops in jersey).
Army 2, Cornell 1 3:42 left 1q
Cornell controlling possession, but offense largely stagnant so far.
Getting some decent opportunities but shooting is pretty weak.
Wow... I thought it was raining badly here in NYC but it is AWFUL in NJ.
Are there any free broadcasts of our game? (I'm a cheap bastard.)
It seems ESPN has run out of angles that are better than watching through rain covered glasses. 10-7 UVa towards the end of the 3rd.
3-2 Cornell early 2nd
We need help in goal, I regret to say. 3-3
What ever happened to putting in field turf?
4-3 Cornell - O'Neill
We need help in goal, I regret to say. 3-3
Despite the weather, that was ugly.
Cornell back on top now though, 4-3.
I love that Glynn has turned into a face-off machine; I just hope he doesn't get worn out as the season goes along.
5-3 Seibald
6-3 Glynn right off the faceoff
Princeton down 12-8 with 12 mins left in the game.
I love that Glynn has turned into a face-off machine; I just hope he doesn't get worn out as the season goes along.
Have we basically determined that Schmicker isn't the guy?
Twice Myers couldn't find the ball after making a save, but it only cost us the first time.
Bad job by Doctor leads to a turnover ... Army has the ball with :24 left in the half. Big point in the game.
Seems to me the further out you shoot the better your odds of scoring against Myers.
Sure enough Army scores with :6 left in the half. 6-4 CU at the half. Given our dominance with faceoffs, I would have like to see a bigger lead, but we'll take it after being down 2-0.
Like Al, I'm concerned about the goaltending. Myers will need to pick up his game if we're going to go anywhere this year.
Hofstra leading Hopkins 6-3 at the half. Interesting.
Glynn 9 of 11 on faceoffs. Pat Kirwan took one and lost it.
Like Al, I'm concerned about the goaltending. Myers will need to pick up his game if we're going to go anywhere this year.
Apparently Tambroni, too.
Myers to the bench. Martinez in.
livestats says Martinez in goal?
Virginia holds on for a 12-10 final.
Too many turnovers
I think I heard Gradinger's name called earlier. That's a significant return...earlier than expected?
7-5 Cornell with some fog rolling in.
Another long shot beats the goalie ... this time we can't blame Myers.
Siebald turnover right in front of Army goal leads to a fast break and Army goal after a nice passing play.
The turnovers will be our undoing if we aren't careful.
Fullerton is solid in Army's net, while we hold our breath with every opponent's shot. This may be a familiar theme for at least ahwile.
I will say we are doing a heckuva job on ground balls.
Ground balls 11-6 Army in the third period, one reason they outscored us that period.
Score?
Score?
7-6 CU in the 4th
7-6 Cornell early 4th
Ground balls 11-6 Army in the third period, one reason they outscored us that period.
Sure didn't seem that way to my eyes, but hey, what do I know?
Duke at Loyola now on ESPNU for those who get it, Duke up 4-2 early in the second quarter. Duke's going to win a lot of games this year, especially after the NCAA said "hey, how about if we give some All-Americans an extra year of eligibility?" ::flipd::
Hofstra leading Hop 7-6 with 9:00 left in the 4th.
We just can't shoot straight.
Seibald with an unbelievable rocket!
We just can't shoot straight.
Leave it to Max to correct that. 8-6 with 4:42 left.
Howie's usually right, but I'm glad Espey put that one in. 9-6 Red.
I'm especially glad now that it's 9-8
I thought the main issue vs UV was the goalie play. theirs made several pt blank saves and ourse let in severallong range ones..
Bad sequence...procedure call on the face, followed by a quick Army goal. Cornell gets a man-up after that faceoff, and two bad turnovers lead to another Army score.
Clock problems...stuck at 0:46, and the refs set it to 0:35.
Howie's usually right, but I'm glad Espey put that one in. 9-6 Red.
Having the ball and 2 goals is better than 3 goals and face-off.
Hopkins-Hofstra now 7-7
Game shouldn't have been that close.
I'm especially glad now that it's 9-8
It wasn't a thing of beauty, but Army is pretty solid. Good win for a team learning its way.
Coming off the CU timeout with 0:17, Army immediately forces a turnover which leads to a shot near the cage at the buzzer. Martinez stopped it. 9-8 Final.
Lots of weaknesses exposed. Tons of turnovers. Uncertainty in goal. Questionable shot selection. Army's goalkeeper played very well, however.
The core of a very good team is there. More work is needed.
So, who will be our goalie?
Similar to last year's game down at West Point in many ways. Army plays fine positional defense, but doesn't have a ton of firepower. We did enough to win.
Hofstra takes down JHU in OT, 8-7.
So, who will be our goalie?
??? Eight goals and eight saves, five for Myers and three for Martinez. Inconclusive.
army gave SU a pretty good game too..

I didn't see today's game, but I'd like to see Martinez get a start and see how he fairs over the course of a game when he's not asked to come in and stop the bleeding.
Edit: all things being equal I'd like to see us go with Martinez as he has a lot of time to develop. I also believe he was a pretty heralded recruit.

I'd like to see that, too. He's a frosh, so it's likely he'd improve with experience.

Makes sense to me with Canisius coming in on Wednesday. We'll see what Tambroni thinks.
Similar to last year's game down at West Point in many ways. Army plays fine positional defense, but doesn't have a ton of firepower. We did enough to win.
Sounds a lot like how the service academies often are in football.

Do we get a shot at Hofstra later this year?

Only should we--and they--make the tournament.

completely PR driven and IMHO a major faux pas by the NC$$. total BS in my book ... these guys are going to have 4 1/2 seasons of time on the field and likely break many scoring records. they should have given them back the number of games they missed + playoffs but not the ENTIRE season!!!
if there were ever a time for an asterisk in sports, this is it.
I'm not sure what triggered their doing this but someone on the laxpower forum just called attention to a laxpower computer power rating looking at years 2000 through 2007: http://www.laxpower.com/millenium/binmen/rating01.php

And where Army has the firepower, they can't use it in Iraq for fear of taking out the hospital down the block.
