Title: Downtime & Performance
Post by: CowbellGuy on February 27, 2008, 03:35:30 PM
Sorry for the site being up and down a lot the last couple days. Been chasing a performance problem that's been present to various degrees for about a year. Finally sorted it out. Site should be a lot quicker now, especially under heavy load (and I suspect there will be a fair amount of that this weekend). Let me know how it works out during the games.

It definitely seems noticeably faster for me.  Thanks!

Now that the server issues seem to be resolved (per Robb's post), can you get started on moving the menus back to the left?  Thanks.

:-D

Age, maybe it has nothing to do with this, but I've not been able to edit my post on TV and internet games. As soon as I try and save changes, I get a message "incorrect key file......."

Just that one post or any of them? Have you tried logging off and back on?Let me know if either of those works.

Logging off/on didn't help. It looks like it's only on threads that I've started as I've tried some other thread posts, and they seem to work OK.

Thank you for the work you do in maintaining this website.  It's a great resource for Cornell sports fans.

I'll second that.  And point out that there's a PayPal link on the right (sorry Josh).

Geez, I maintain servers for a living and I still went into this thread thinking it was going to be some sort of discussion about whether it would be more beneficial for the team to play a first-round series or take that week off... ::rolleyes::

The forum list for me no longer tells me how many new threads or messages there are in each forum. It still says the new posts once I enter a forum though.

I told Age about this problem earlier today.

No, just selfish.  I thought it was just me.  :-)

Plus he was five feet away eating breakfast, so it wasn't exactly a hardship.

Well, Beeeej discovered that it was often inaccurate. I discovered that the code is buggy and inefficient, resulting in some large, slow, poorly-optimized queries. FWIW, I wrote none of it. For the moment I've turned it off. I know it's something they looked at for the new version, so when I get around to upgrading, I'll probably turn it back on. Try your best to survive without it until then.

I found that it was always a "refresh" away from being accurate. I liked the old way better - I didn't check empty forums. I'm soldiering on, though, so don't worry about me too much.
