Title: CAN v GER, LeNeveu starts
Post by: REDhead on December 29, 2002, 04:47:24 PM
Lenny turned away 3 of 4 shots 1st period for a 1-0 German lead; after 2nd period it's 3-1 in favor of Canada.

Glad to see he's playing a game; the worst of all worlds was losing him for the Everblades and the North Country just to warm the Canadian bench....don't know if this game will make an impact on who starts the next....

Lenny had 13 saves in the 4-1 win. Canada outshot Germany 53-14.

Yeah, but great call by Al to pick him to start this game. (See WJC thread)

Credit to the Canadian coach for not keeping his #2 goalie on the bench for the whole tournament.

Since I was at the Ger-Can game just thought that i'd give my 0.02.

Lenny really wasn't tested at all. The one goal he let in was soft and all the rest of his saves were on unchallenging slow shots. It is really unfortunate cause had he been tested he might actually stand a chance of playing another game. sad thing is that a NCAA player in Canada is totally unknown and not well trusted.  fleury has the support of all Canada and all the media. All the same, I cheered as loud as i possibly could for Lenny. Even without personal support by the crowd I am certain that the feelings he experienced while being on the ice as the crowd was cheering for team canada will surpass those provided weekly by the faithful. it was a wicked experience and i'm so very happy for and proud of lenny. i just hope that somehow he still gets the opportunity to show my fellow countrymen how skilled and awesome he can be in net.

Actually the replay shows it as a screen shot with it being deflected at the last second. Still stoppable but not necessarily soft.

From my vantage point in my living room (watching on tv), I don't think Dave LeNeveu ever saw the puck that ultimately went behind him.

I admit that my perspective could have been (and probably was) skewed by my position. I was puck side and it seemd like an easy stop to fans in my vicinity. I didn't have the opportunity to see a replay and didn't know that it was defelcted - thus I'll take everyone's word that it wasn't a soft goal. I would much prefer that anyway!

however most of the media has criticized the goal as being stoppable and reflected on his play as "shaky". i hope and expect for this all to change tonight.
