i wish this game would start already....post score updates here (when it starts) ::help::
anyone wanna make some predictions?
I'm feeling a 4-2 very tight Cornell loss (with one ENG).
Damn, biggest regular season game since I first arrived on The Hill, and my girlfriend had to go and get tickets to the Boston Pops tonight. Worst birthday present I ever got. I wish I could listen...
Let's Go Red!!!
"Cough, cough. Gosh hon, I feel REALLY sick. Cough."
Note: the 7:30 ET start on USCHO may be a fixed time, but if it isn't, the UMass-OSU game has already ended the second period as of 5:20 ET, so our game might start up a little early.
I think a better question for the pre-game question is: Who is going to start in goal for us?
I'd imagine Marr. Not based on one performing better in practice than the other. I wouldn't know. But just from the fact that he's a little older, slightly more experienced, and been there for longer. Probably his game to start, but we'll see in less than a few hours.
> our game might start up a little early.
Not anymore. Apparently there was a fire alarm at the rink and they had to empty it, so now they're running late. Go figure...
My uneducated guess:
Chabot was heavily recruited, and would probably be making the coach sweat a decision to bench him - even as a freshman - on almost any team in the country.
Marr bounced around from Northeastern to juniors and back to Cornell. I think he is destined to be a career backup.
Chabot between the pipes
Btw, UMass/OSU is in OT... though it appears to have been a 5 minute period... is there a shootout afterwards? or are we witnessing another bastardization of the game?
Edit: it's a shootout, which is still a bastardization I guess, but at least it matches the rule and doesn't count.
Marr came out first ... looks like he is starting ... word from the rink.
Marr will be starting, according to the pregame show on UMaine netcast.
Maine radio announcer says it's Marr. I'm quite surprised. (See bra's comment above.)
So who one the first game, Anyone? And I still say the Akwesasne Casino by Messina is a good beet for next sun. morning.
UMass won the shoot out.
Well, that's why I got fired by Miss Cleo.
Adam's pregame is on the netcase now. Schafer's comments coming up.
bored as hell...when does this game start? wish i could listen :`(
Charlie Cook is dressed for the first time since the Harvard game. . .I would guess Gleed probably won't be dressed.
YES!! Charlie's back!!! Maybe he can score some for us ;-) he's so dependable :-D
Cornell radio link has lost contact with the arena. They are playing ads and PSAs. Maine radio link is fine. A more cynical person would make some sort of comment about how we are getting more for our money with the new professional service:)
Roy
Penalty on Deschamps of Maine. Cornell on pp. Still 0-0, 11 mins in.
Cornell is on the PP
Maine kills off the pp w/o any Cornell shots. 7:50 to go, 3-3 in shots, 0-0 in goals.
thank god the game has started
Going a little nuts not being able to get the WHCU feed. ...How do I get to the Maine radio link?
thanks
Anyone who cares to listen the Maine feed is not having problems and the call is very well done.
edit: http://www.uscho.com/m/?team=54
bottom of the page, Internet Radio feed
ben the maine feed is not working for some reason.
still nils? ::help::
Maine feed working fine for me.
Adam - and Cornell radio back on the air here in NY State
Maine feed is working fine here too.
Still 0-0, both teams with decent chances, Cornell the slight edge in play. 2:00 to go in first.
If you click the "On the Air" button on the index page you should get the feed just fine.
Big Red going on PP 11.2 seconds in Period 1.
Red out shooting Maine about 9-5 I think I heard Adam say -
Cornell did a great job forcing that penalty. More pressure on Doyle as the period ends. 1:49 to go on pp when second period begins. SOG 9-5 Cornell.
Amazing first period....all Cornell
Does anyone else get a "cannot locate mplayer2.exe" error for the Maine feed?
Clarkson ties Miami 2-2 with 7 minutes to go.
Miami goes back up 3-2.
You need Windows Media player to run the feed.
> Does anyone else get a "cannot locate mplayer2.exe" error for the Maine feed?
Sounds a lot like you don't have the Windows Media Player installed.
It's free. I'll go hunt for a download link.
McRae hits the damn post!
Nevermind, I'm downloading it as we speak.
Did anyone else hear the Maine announcer mention Marr as in goal in second period?
Cornell going on PP!
Ryan to the box for charging @ 5:16 second period
thanks guys
it was the volume on the computer here at my folks.
pp for cornell
vesce just missed... ::nut::
Murray 1-0 PPG :-)
On another note, are there any other online updates; I seem to remember one that gave a play-by-play for the first BU game?
GOAL!!!!!!!!!!! Murray on the PP
1-0 Cornell
pp goal murray ::nut::
First penalty on Murray. Here comes the Maine pp.
Murray to the box @ 7:00 of the second.
Anyone heard mention of Hornby?
Now that you mention it Al, any word on Hynes or Paolini?
Heard both Hynes and Paolini.
Hornby is out with an injury.
Cornell kills off the second pp without much trouble.
Both Hynes and Paolini are playing...Hornby was a scratch for an undisclosed nagging injury
Even up #3 is a hook on Pegoraro.
My sense is that if Hornby's healthy Schafer's gonna play 'im.
Gotta stop with the penalties. Maine's better than 25% on the PP.
Well, I'm here visiting relatives in the Hudson Valley, and very happy that the Maine feed is so good on a 56k connection. Even happier that I just heard a fairly audible "Maine....SUCKS!" cheer. And happiest at Cornell's play up to this point, and it sounds like Marr is fairing well when he has to.
C'mon Red!
Murray is everywhere tonight. Maine announcers are creaming themselves complimenting him.
Marr with a couple strong saves and Dan Pegoraro to the rescue with the clear. Maine good pressure in the last couple minutes.
How many shots has Maine had?
Last I heard it was 16-8 with about 5 minutes to go. I'd say it is now about 17-10.
is it intermission? had some problems or something on the air now highlights...intermission?
Interesting that UMass won in a shootout. IIRC, Cornell lost in 2OT to NMU last year. When did they make this change?
I just logged on. Can someone tell me the score please? thanks
1-0 cu 2nd int
The score is 1-0 Cornell after 2. Murray with a one-timer PPG about 6 minutes into the 2nd, and Cornell killing 3 straight Maine PPs late in the 2nd. Shots decently in favor of Cornell.
Maine seemed to come on in the last five minutes of the second. Could be the result of killing three penalties in eight-nine minutes. We'll see shortly.
18:28 to go in regulation. Shots are now 17-15 with Maine getting the last 5.
17:27 to go. 1-0 Big Red.
Gotta go back on offense.
Damn it. Maine tied it.
Great pressure again by Pegoraro and Downs. Faceoff in Maine end, 14:34 to go, 1-1.
12:22 to go in regulation, shots 19-18 Maine. Murray having an outstanding night. Both teams getting good chances, but Maine starting to put on strong pressure.
Damn - 2-1
ahhh shit...do we have much of a chance? nobody has said much on how we're playing.... ::twitch::
We are getting out played right now, we're gonna have to step it up if we want a chance to win this game.
How much time left?
Inside two miutes in the third
Empty net goal - oh well good game
Ooops down one my mistake Looks like that is about it...
Abbot scored. 3-2
Cornell scores with 27 seconds to go!!!
2-3
Abbot 27 sec left - Timeout
Good effort. Couldn't get the second goal to get a little breathing room. The three penalties in a row seemed to shift momentum to Maine.
which one? ;-)
Let's hope we can get up for tomorrow's game so there isn't a repeat of last year's game with OSU.
Damn. And the UMass win makes it doubly annoying. I was hoping for a win over UMass to help with common opponent comparisons; I didn't want to jeopardize the 1-0 record against OSU, but I'll take a second win.
Any postgame comments regarding tomorrow night's goalie? It sounded like Marr played a good game tonight.
could anyone who was there say that if lenny was in net, we could have maybe won?
Sure sounds like Marr played well enough to get the nod again. I think Mike just wants somebody who can win. After all, after next week it's sit down and wait till next year for both of them.
I agree, Marr played well and did his part. . .he did everything anyone could have asked him to do. One goal against him and one off one our own guys skate, a very solid effort. I think we'll see him in net again tomorrow afternoon.
[q]could anyone who was there say that if lenny was in net, we could have maybe won?[/q]
Obviously it's possible...but I don't see any way the loss can be pinned on that factor.
Marr played an excellent game between the pipes. Maine had a boatload of quality chances and Marr was up to the task all night. Even on UMaine's 2 goals against him, he can't really be faulted too much. On the first he made an excellent initial save and just couldn't handle the rebound that came right back to Lawson. And Maine's 2nd goal was simply a bad break, bad bounce, bad re-direction off of one of our skates.
Theoretically with Lenny in net the team might have been more aggressive offensively, leading to more goals, but (a) nobody could ask for more from Marr -- he was GREAT in a very difficult situation, and (b) Maine has a damn good defense and weathered the times when Cornell was putting the pressure on, so a wider open offense might not have meant more goals.
