Period 2

Period 3

Shots 7-2 RPI. Hello?
First 2 shots of the game were Cornell...
Krantz almost gave RPI a lead. He was hanging out behind the net, having a cuppa a coffee, RPI forechecked hard and his "outlet pass" went in the slot. Scrivens with the save. phew.
Shots 9-2 now and a pp for RPI.
We survive RPI's 7% pp.
Shots now 13-2
Can we call for the first between-periods break?
Tripping
or interference rather
Cornell pp. Show em how it's done, you 17% madmen! :)
Now RPI gets a look at our PP w/ ~ 4 min left in the first.
At least 2 of Scriven's saves have been on wrap-around attempts.
that puck was loose
puck was loose on that last whistle
Captain Sawada with a very dumb after-whistle crosscheck.
Sawada does not set a good example as captain.
After the scrum/pile-up in the crease, Sawada gets a 2 min unsportsman-like penalty. Definitely not very captain-like.
Shots now 13-4. We have DOMINATED the last 12.5 seconds. :)
Topher just missed a 2-1 shg attempt. End of first period.
Hey, allowed only one shot-on-goal on two power plays.
wow... ugly hockey (granted i really haven't seen a college game in a while). no sustained pressure up front though. good final minute i suppose
The "Bank of American ECAC Championships"? ::yark::
Someone give me a bottle of Avaya.
Topher just missed a 2-1 shg attempt. End of first period.
Yeah, except Topher doesn't kill penalties. 28, not 26.
Hey, allowed only one shot-on-goal on two power plays.
The 'Tute didn't give up a SHG. That was a victory. :-)
I was trying to figure out who the play-by-play man was, and then I realized it was the Devils former radio guy. He's misidentified half the Cornell roster, or so it seems.
Regarding the game, lethargic effort by Cornell so far. Ironically, some of our best efforts came on the penalty kill, but given RPI's ineptitude on the power play so far this season, it's the least we should expect.
Livestats says Krantz lost a faceoff. How did that happen?
The "Bank of American ECAC Championships"? ::yark::
Someone give me a bottle of Avaya.
It's been all down hill since Milk pulled out.
Taylor Davenport took a big hit early. Could anybody tell if he played after that? I don't remember seeing him after the first 5 minutes or so.
Any insight as to why P. Kennedy is out? Somehow Roeszler doesn't seem like the best match for Nash and Greening.
Livestats says Krantz lost a faceoff. How did that happen?
Probably somebody misread 17 for 27 (Gallagher).
Taylor Davenport took a big hit early. Could anybody tell if he played after that? I don't remember seeing him after the first 5 minutes or so.
He did play...Jason mentioned he limped off to the bench after that shift, but came back on his next shift.
Some nice misinformation about scoreless ties on the TV broadcast ... conveniently ignoring the playoff game against Clarkson in 1990
Gallagher injured.
yeah i hope he will be back
Nash double-shifting with Mugford and Barlow, so it doesn't look good
penalty? if so, on who?
Some nice misinformation about scoreless ties on the TV broadcast ... conveniently ignoring the playoff game against Clarkson in 1990
I think they mean in reg season, that was a playoff game.
Gallagher back on the ice now *whew*
Goal Michael Kennedy
very nicee...
1-0 M Kennedy
Kennedy! Kid's on a serious roll.
Yes! LGR!
I don't know what kind of creature has taken up residence in Michael Kennedy's body, but I hope it never leaves.
RPI pp #3 coming up.
Did someone say this guy announced pro games? If so, that's very sad. He's really leaning on his class of '07 color man.
Could be it's the spirit of Michael Iggulden.
Maybe Kennedy's scoring touch is "coming out" while at Cornell rather than waiting for the AHL.
RPI pp #3 coming up.
... and killed.
Scott! Great move by Topher and a nice finish glove side.
Topher Scott, nice moves, nice shot
So nice to hear how good RPI is in the second period.
2-0 Cornell. Yeah Scott.
I love that line...perhaps not the Sawada part, but still ;)
Davenport on ice for Scott's goal, so he's playing.
I love that line...perhaps not the Sawada part, but still ;)
The guy had four assists last weekend, and he started the play that scored the first goal tonight. What more would you like?
He doesn't have to do too much on that line though, which has helped him look better recently. At least I've thought so.
Couple of good hits on this shift as well. I really think he's stepped up his game since being reunited with Topher and joining with (and helping spark?) the red-hot Michael Kennedy.
Has Gallagher been back since the hit?
Never mind, just heard him.
Gallagher just took a faceoff.
Cornell PP

Touche...better, but still not anywhere near his level of play from last year. And captains can't be taking dumb penalties like his cross-check in the first period. But yes, it's encouraging.
"Just win, baby." :)
3 on 1, short handed, Doug Berk very poised.
Where Nichols goes, 2 minutes shall follow. But this time he draws it. :)
Not a good PP for Cornell
3 on 1, short handed, Doug Berk very poised.
You're dating yourself.;-) It's Jordan Berk. He called me two nights ago.
3 on 1, short handed, Doug Berk very poised.
And his son Jordy made a nice play too ...
Blake Gallager gives away the puck for a short handed rush

3 on 1, short handed, Doug Berk very poised.
RPI defense lets Topher set up behind their net. Too bad he couldn't line one up for somebody.
Powerplay was good I thought... but Gallagher gave it away on the point twice (once on each PP)
After 2:
Cornell 2 RPI 0
SLU 2 Harvard 1
Union 4 Colgate 3
Quinnipiac 5 Brown 0
Late 2:
Dartmouth 1 Clarkson 0
I wonder if Xerox sponsors RPI
I wonder if Xerox sponsors RPI
The band, at least.
uh...anyone see the puck fall out on the ground and not go in the goal? He fell, but he didnt even have the puck. maybe he was in before though..couldnt really tell
Ugh. Trouble sealing the deal again.
Shouldn't have the delayed penalty stopped play before he fell into the net?
We've blown third-period leads in three of the last four games. Not a good pattern.
Shouldn't have the delayed penalty stopped play before he fell into the net?
If he'd controlled the puck, yes. But he didn't.
And, predictably, it's his first goal of the season.::innocent::
That's a great point. I didn't think about that. At what point are they do blow it dead? With control or just after the first touch by the goaltender? He did appear to bobble the puck on its/his way into the net, but certainly touched it in front of the goal line.
And, predictably, it's his first goal of the season.::innocent::
I called Vassel scoring in the pre-game on USCHO for that very reason.
it might also have helped had the ref been within 40 ft of the play to see what happened.. for sure the goal judge never saw it go in. as for whether he controlled it you couldnt tell but why the slow whistle? and had the RPI guy not jabbed him he doesnt fall sideways and probably no goal.. but the D fell asleep..
uh...anyone see the puck fall out on the ground and not go in the goal? He fell, but he didnt even have the puck. maybe he was in before though..couldnt really tell
Thats what I thought, but they never showed a slow motion shot from the right angle to see it. There was also a glove that fell off so I couldn't tell if I was actually seeing the puck.

And, predictably, it's his first goal of the season.::innocent::
I called Vassel scoring in the pre-game on USCHO for that very reason.
I remember.
He needs to control. I didn't realize he bobbled it.
yes, though the replay didn't have a great shot of the degree of control.
SLU 3 Harvard 1
Clarkson 1 Dartmouth 1
mid third.
PP too slow, lanes don't open up with slow passes.
I don't think the puck ever crossed the goal line...
I'd sure like to see another Cornell goal here.
good pp kill big Big Red
Haven't heard a lot from Riley's line tonight.
Scrives last save was pretty lucky. I don't think he saw the puck
Haven't heard a lot from Riley's line tonight.
No. Still puzzled by the Roeszler-for-P. Kennedy swap.
Sounds crazy but livestats is ahead of RedCast at my end.
It's a bit ahead of my RPI audio feed as well

Haven't heard a lot from Riley's line tonight.
No. Still puzzled by the Roeszler-for-P. Kennedy swap.
I'm thinking that one's an injury. Patrick's looked good and Tyler's looked overmatched -- he needs time in the weight room.
St. Lawrence beats Harvard 3-1.

Agree completely. Why not Joe Devin?
The team looks a little slow now. Everybody needs to turn it up a notch to keep the lead.
Princeton over Yale 4-3
Shots 8-2 RPI this period.
Princeton's really hanging in.
we might be the worst stick handling team in college hockey.. the unforced to's/giveaways are just killers..
Just keepin' Ben interested...
Lots of big hits by RPI, Gallager blasted
If I can remember what the RPI announcer said...
Dartmouth 3 - Clarkson 1
Union 5 - Colgate 4
Quinnipiac 6 - Brown 2
Union beats Colgate. Not sure whether that says more about Union or Colgate.
OMG, a Tyler Roeszler sighting!
4:10 to go.
Cornell looks content to just pickle this one.
And a Greening sighting with it. I would say his first really assertive shift of the night.
I'm liking the Clarkson and Harvard scores, if those are correct.
And a Greening sighting with it. I would say his first really assertive shift of the night.
Right. Thankfully the Scott/M. Kennedy/Sawada line has picked it up or we'd be really hurting.
I'm liking the Clarkson and Harvard scores, if those are correct.
It don't mean a thing unless we get the weeeeeen,
Not nearly enough skating in the defensive zone tonight. Against a hard-working team it's simply not acceptable. That will lead to a lot of goals against and I feel has been an intermittent problem all year.
What happened to Scali?
Lots of guys just getting hammered. Hit on Scali should be game misconduct.
Bergdorfer nailed him.
What is wrong with Sawada?
Dirty cross check from behind against the board. He was kinda riding him into the boards, but did a cross check at the last second and Scali went head first into the boards. Scali is up and to the bench under his own power though.
He got hit from behind against the boards. 5 minute major, RPI.
Is it just me, or has RPI been placing dirty hits all game? Elbows and knees and follow-through shoves...
Love how Sawada gets the 10 minute major while the RPI goon only gets five minutes.
Let's get an in your face goal for a nice good bye
Don't know, but he definitely flipped out. You could hear muted screaming from several members of the Cornell bench, caught well by the cameras. Sawada, Mugford and Scott all taking serious exception. Don't know what he could have done to get the misconduct except say something to the red.
Love how Sawada gets the 10 minute major while the RPI goon only gets five minutes.
Recall a 10 minute misconduct does not effect manpower on the ice. So the 5 is worse.
Although now Seminoff takes a high sticking 2 minutes.
What is wrong with Sawada?
Second retaliation call of the game against Sawada? Senior leadership is good, senior spunk is good, senior cheapshots not good.
If we blow this game with this stupidity...
4 on 4 Seminoff takes a bad penalty, ends up on his behind
Looks a little woozy on the bench as you'd expect. Possibly concussed, though doesn't look like anything else, or severe. Standing up during the timeout, which is a good sign.
How much time is left?
What was the actual call on the RPI guy? It should've been a game DQ if it was a checking from behind penalty.
How much time is left?
1min
< 1 min
RPI empty net
let's get an empty netter
And more fights
Stupid to fight after the game guys.
What are we doing? Point to the scoreboard and get the hell off the ice.
Is there a Jay Bloom endowed chair of tossed, thrown and slammed clipboard replacements for the coach?
Another good game from Scrivens.
Another good game from Scrivens.
...if unconventional. As per usual.
Lots of heavy hits by RPI tonight and not a lot of reciprocity. You can tell they've been playing in the west a lot this year. Scali, Gallager and Scrivens will be sore tomorrow.
4-1 ECAC on the road. Stole a win tonight.
I liked the "Scrivens can't be the player of the game he was bad, give it to Sawada" by the announcer. The goal given up by Scrivens wasn't really all that bad, and he played well the rest of the game.
Post-game thread open.
Let's head to Schenectady and complete the 4 point weekend.

Another good game from Scrivens.
.967 save percentage tonight...and the one goal was controversial
Good quality shots for the most part, but 13 shots is not going get it done against better defenses
I liked the "Scrivens can't be the player of the game he was bad, give it to Sawada" by the announcer. The goal given up by Scrivens wasn't really all that bad, and he played well the rest of the game.
I laughed at that too. However, where as we know that's how he plays, and typically does very well with his style, I can imagine how someone unfamiliar with Scrivens would think he had an off game.
I'd like to say that the color man (Broad I think) was pretty informative and very even-handed. Very impressive for a former RPI player, only 1 year out.
That's a great point. I didn't think about that. At what point are they do blow it dead? With control or just after the first touch by the goaltender? Quote from: 2006 Rule Bookc. The appropriate on-ice official shall use a "delayed whistle" when a foul is committed against the team in possession of the puck, thereby postponing the stoppage of play until the offending team shall have possession and control of the puck.
The last player to control the puck, other than the goalkeeper, is the last player to be deemed in possession of the puck. Control of the puck is defined as the act of propelling the puck with the stick, hand or skate.
Possession and control is not a rebound off the goalkeeper, an opposing player, the goal or the boards or any incidental contact with the body or equipment of an opposing player. Batting the puck with the hand or kicking the puck is considered to be controlling the puck. Touching the puck (e.g., poke check or deflection) is not considered control of the puck.
During a delayed penalty, a goal may not be scored by the penalized team as a result of a deflection off of a penalized team player.
Yeah, the rule is not in question... I wasn't clear on whether Scrivens had control or not before falling backwards.
Cornell's leading the league in penalty minutes per game (that is...with the highest). But also in scoring defense.
I recognized that you understood the rule, but having less interesting things that I should be doing, I decided to check the exact wording. Having spent that energy, I couldn't resist sharing the information for the possible benefit of anyone else with a less reliable memory of the rule book. :)
Fair enough.
It's always nice to be refreshed. Thanks.
