Title: Cornell at RPI pre-game
Post by: sah67 on January 11, 2008, 10:02:46 AM
Just some interesting facts I came across while browsing stats on USCHO:

We currently have the 15th best powerplay (in terms of conversion rate) in the country, converting 12/67 chances for a 17.9 conversion rate.  Never would have guessed that ;)

Our team defense is ranked #14, allowing 2.31 goals/game.

Scrivens is the #9 goalie in the country by save percentage, which is currently at .931

We're tied with Dartmouth for fewest overall games played (13).  Notre Dame and (t)OSU have played the most (24).

RPI is on a 5-game losing streak and hasn't won since 12/04 at Harvard...they're definitely going to bring it.  I hope the D is ready.

Of course, these are just numbers...

Thanks for not mentioning RPI's 7 for 101 powerplay which has also given up 6 SHGs. ::yark::

Yeah, USCHO doesn't list the bottom half of the stats ;)  Good time as any for us to get our first shortie of the season.

That might not be possible. RPI intends to decline all penalties.

I've never heard of RPI's three leading scorers: Tyler Helfrich, Andrei Uryadov and Chase Polacek.

Of course, experience has taught us that RPI's scorers tonight will include Garrett Vassel and Scott Halpern, neither of whom has scored this year, and maybe Lange or Alford.

Edit: Helfrich is from Alberta, so Mike probably recruited him...

Double edit: Uryadov has 67 PIM already!  For some perspective, nobody on Cornell has more than 22.  He got 30 in one game with Yale.  Yikes.

Uryadov is a Junior, but the other two are Freshmen.

Helfrich committed to Brown for last year but couldn't pass through admissions. Rumor has it that he had to retake his SAT (or ACT) to get into RPI. We're lucky to have him. He's the best playmaker that RPI has had since Alain St. Hilaire ('99).

Polacek is a small fast wing. Supposedly, we got him and his HS teammate, d-man Bryan Brutlag, by offering them money this year while western schools wanted them to play in the USHL for a year.

Is Scott Halpern the younger brother of Jeff Halpern who went to Princeton in the mid 90's and has had a good NHL career (Caps, now Dallas) as a defensive minded forward?

Apparently no relationship and certainly not brothers.

I imagine that most of you know by now that Dan Peace's father, David, was Cornell's captain in 74-75.

Box score says he got a 5min for hitting from behind and a 10 min and game misconduct at 4:29 of the first.  Doesn't add up..if you add 40 min for the second and third periods the total would be about 55 min.

Check out the huge player photos on the exterior walls of the fieldhouse.  Pictures of Saddam Hussein in 2002 Baghdad were smaller than these.::laugh::::laugh::

http://www.collegehockeystats.net/0708/teamstats/renm shows Uryadov with 15 penalties for 52 minutes and as TimV wrote a major and a game misconduct vs. Yale. I think that he got the same set in another game. That would total 30 minutes on 4 penalties leaving 22 minutes for 11 minors. That sounds about right.

RPI as a team only got 19 PIMs in that game. Uryadov got 15 with a major and a game misconduct (which, of course, counts as 10 minutes in the box score).

Uryadov had 19 against Miami, so most of his PIMs came in two 5+10 incidents.

Are the Boatyard Grill ads designed to make me want to burn the place to the ground?  Is this an insurance thing?

I can't stick around to turn the pre-game thread into a game thread.  Perhaps someone who can wants to continue this in a new thread?
