I intended to vote for McKee when I started putting this together, but when I saw Lenny's helmet again, my inner geek got the better of me.

The McKee helmet that didn't even make an appearance until well into the regular season. I can still remember the blue Texas Tornado one (although it did stick out like a sore thumb).

I thought it was green.
I was going to say "what about Underhill" but then I couldn't remember what it looked like. So I found this:
[Q]When goaltender Matt Underhill had to decide what design to put on his goalie mask, he was given three days to make his decision before it would be constructed. With no real design in mind and it never being an important issue to him, Underhill saw the mask of Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Curtis Joseph, thought it looked cool, and asked to have a similar design put on his own.[/Q]

So nevermind.
I thought it was green.
Maybe teal? ;-)
Either way I remember it not going well with our uniforms. That being said I voted for McKee's "new" helmet.
Had to go for Scrivens': a salute to the Faithful is about the classiest thing I could ever think of. Kudos.

Ben's mask is pretty cool, but as far as tributes to fans go, I am partial to Clarkson's Tim Potters Helmet (http://www.bonesaw.org/features.php?mode=view&id=11). Maybe it is just because I am on it... oh well.

Really? You don't say. A Clarkson fan thinking that something from Clarkson is better? I'm shocked. ;-)
But really, the reason I'm posting is to openly mock bonesaw.org. :-D
I should like Scrivens's helmet, but something about it creeps me out, like the souls of all those people are trapped in it... ::scared::
Damn, no love for Spidey.

finally, something we agree on. I mock/make fun of/criticize bonesaw a lot.
Lenny was my #1, until now. still a close call, Scrivens getting the win because of his loyalty to the Lynah Faithful.
The Lynah Faithful and Band tributes on Scrivens' helmet are very cool. I was wondering why he had a black helmet when I saw it from a distance at MSG.
I think Burt's and Lenny's helmets both look very cool and go the best with the Cornell uniforms, with the nod towards Lenny's.
I voted for McKee's, though. I don't really like the amount of white on his helmet, but I have always liked the bear blended over the cage. The ivy wrapping around the "C" is the creative touch that put this helmet over the edge for me.
On a side note, Underhill's rabid dog is pretty cool, although I never really liked the all-white (if I remember right) pads and gloves.

yes, Green and Yellow are a hideous mixture... however Green and Gold go very well together...

Well, put some gold in it and we can discuss the matter again. :-D

I hadn't seen Scrivens' helmet before. Wow! I love it!
For fans in the stands, goalie helmets are an inside joke not shared with them unless they brought binoculars. Too often the intricate artwork can only be seen up close and even then you may need a decoder key to understand if that's Pamela Anderson, the current girlfriend, or a figure from Nordic mythology. A hawk looks a lot like a crow. Bird eyes sometimes look like Buckeye award stars. At the least, the McKee helmet (and Scrivens') insures there's a big C on the front or sides. And the Spiderman design can be seen from a distance.
Was there ever a study of whether an extra pair of eyes on the front of a helmet distracts shooters? Or steals the shooter's spirits?
Let's hope the NHL doesn't try to stamp out this one vestige of individuality. All we've got left are hockey goalie helmets and soccer goalie jerseys. Maybe also the diversity of sponsor logos on NASCAR driving suits.

Find 3 more candidates and we will have a good off-season poll. :-P
This reminds me of those fluorescent crayola crayons that I had as a kid.

I like that as well. For that reason, Andy Bandurski's (sp? too lazy to look it up) might be my favorite. As I recall it was very close (except for color, of course) to the bear helmet that Andy Moog wore for the Bruins and then Dallas. McKee received instruction from Moog, so perhaps that's why his helmet was a similar concept.
Some Hawaiian shirts are that colorful when dyed. (Well, almost) They are sewn and worn with the bright side in, and what shows through to the now-outside is quite pleasing.
Campos plays for Team Crayola?

Of course not. He's a soccer player.
Not as good as Ben's, but I like it better than the other 3

WIN.
This showed up on NHL.com today. Really cool stuff.

Also, I remember once watching Dov-Grumet Morris play in San Diego wearing the Sucks helmet I'd seen him in the year before at Lynah, and then, only a few days later I got to see Silverthorne wearing his Colgate Moron Maroon helmet.
...I miss the San Diego Gulls so much. Winter break blows without them.
An article on Scrivens's helmet from yesterday's IJ:
http://www.theithacajournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071225/SPORTS/712250324
I didn't even notice the faux-newsprint around the border of his face.
I got to see Silverthorne wearing his Colgate Moron Maroon helmet.
Was he also wearing the pink socks?
No! Unfortunately, he wasn't wearing the socks. I had gone to that game expecting him to wear them.
That was the same winter break that I stood behind the bench trying to get Matt Underhill's attention for 3 periods. He didn't play that day, nor was he as excited to see a Lynah Faithful shirt as I'd hoped he'd be.
Since the helmet discussion seems to have resurfaced...
I respect Scrivens' dedication to the Faithful, but I really don't think it's the best looking- a bit dull even. Maybe if he turned some students into man-eating dragons...
