Title: The NHL network
Post by: Rita on November 01, 2007, 01:22:48 AM
Dug up from June's Riley Nash thread ...

Is the NHL Network new? Is it available in the US or is it a Canadien thing? I'm just curious since I haven't seen it on my Direct TV programming guide.
The NHL Network has been around for about six years (that's a guess).  As far as I know, it's only been available in Canada.  We need to start campaigning to get it included in either the Directv SportsPak or as part of the CenterIce package.
The NHL network is on Direct TV, channel 215. I'm not sure if that is included in basic package or if you need the sports pack (i.e. the package that also gets you all the Fox Sports Networks, CSTV, ESPNU etc.). I have the sports pack, so it might be bundled with that.

I just discovered it tonight when I was in desparate need of something other than basketball to watch. The Kings-BlueJacket game was pretty good. The first Columbus goal was scored on a sweet give-n-go.

That was an early discovery, as it just got added last night.  Thanks for the alert.

Time Warner just added it (at least in some areas) earlier this month.

Last night I added the NHL Center Ice package (had to finish paying off the NFL Sunday ticket first), and couldn't understand why the LA-Col game wasn't coming on any of the Center Ice channels (and the FSN_Ohio channels were blacked out too). I was on the phone for more than half of the first period with a DirectTV agent trying to find out why I wasn't getting the game. She was the one that told me to try 215.

I give her credit, she kept asking around until she found it (though she was a bit confused and thought I wanted the "Bluehawk game"... which got very confusing because the Blackhawks were playing at the same time).

For any night-owls out there.. late at night (2-3 am - 5 am time slot) the NHL network shows re-broadcasts of hockey games from the 80's and 90's.

How does one "increase the memory" on the DirectTV/DVR?

Unless you have a non-tivo dvr.  Then I have no idea.
