It's been several years since I've run a game thread. I'll give it a shot.

Yeah Rich!
We probably should work on developing our "pool" of thread starters. My record wasn't very good last year, so I should be way down on the depth chart.
Scrivens in goal tonight after having a "slightly better" week of practice (according to Coach Schafer on the pre-game show).

Pretty good.
is it a secured URL?
Care to describe the video quality, before I plunk down money to yet another service?
very similar to the video at the florida tourny a couple of years ago. Pretty good I'd say better than cstv lynah video.
Mine's already freezing a bit. We'll see if it continues...

I was very poor last year and had the 0-0 game this year. Whoever ran the Ottawa game had a good audition. :-)
I can't get on (can't find URL) and seem to have lost six bucks.
no freezing for me
Unlike last week, the Redcast audio clean this week.
I can't get on at all (can't find URL) and seem to have lost six bucks.
check your email, rstott.
Not a great start for Riley a turnover that almost lead to a goal and a penalty.
No freezing here either, but I dont have audio. Is there any?
No freezing here either, but I dont have audio. Is there any?
yes, not sure what could be wrong
No freezing here either, but I dont have audio. Is there any?
Yes. And the play-by-play guy is....um...excitable? Think of the "Paulie" character from the Rocky movies screaming excitably.

Never mind :-) nice pass

Nichols--2 minutes for hitting too hard
RIT on the board first... Matt Smith, on Scrivens top stick side (according to Jason).
Uh oh.
Uh oh.
who was it on? RIT hasn't said
Colin Greening is gone with a 5 minute major. Not too clear on the Cornell audio what the call was for (or I may have missed it).
~ 4 min left on the major and 4:40 left in the first.
Colin Greening is gone with a 5 minute major. Not too clear on the Cornell audio what the call was for (or I may have missed it).
They said 5+10.
only problem is the RIT guys are impossible to listen too..
RIT now up 2-0 on two PPGs.
pathetic
sounds like we arnt even on the ice..

Thanks. That is what I thought I heard, but I was trying to figure out what was the penalty call.
First period over and Cornell down 2-0.
PS.. Trotsky.. what happend to the "cat" avatars?
I can't get on at all (can't find URL) and seem to have lost six bucks.
I had connection problem earlier on, which was resolved by e-mailing customer service.
PS.. Trotsky.. what happend to the "cat" avatars?
That was Archie (another of our worryingly high number of cats). He may make a comeback later this season. What I really need is a Trotsky avatar. Edit: there.
Let's see how they respond
Some intermission reading for those (like me) who hadn't seen this: http://www.ecachockey.com/men/members/cornell/20072610_GoalieFeature
QuoteBy Brandon Thomas
The Ithaca Journal
ITHACA - Meet the odd couple.
And not entirely because they're goalies, which - as most hockey players will attest - are a completely different breed.
Goalies Troy Davenport and Ben Scrivens are reunited as the Cornell hockey team's last line of defense as the Big Red kicks off its 2007-08 season on Saturday against RIT at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
One plays a technical style, the other takes advantage of his size and reflexes. One is talkative, the other quiet. One is American, the other Canadian. And in their freshmen seasons, they even roomed together on road trips.
You can almost hear the theme music from early '70s sit-com now.
"As far as us being different, that's just a safe comment," said Scrivens, with nearby teammates laughing. "I'd say he's a little more different than me, but compared to the (skaters), we're both pretty much out there."
Both were pretty much out there on the ice last season as the Big Red tried to find a replacement for departed three-year starter David McKee. Davenport, then a sophomore, emerged as the early favorite and played 24 games. But Scrivens worked his way into 12 games as a freshman from Canada, and the duo was co-piloting the crease by the end of the season.
"They're both very capable and both want to step up and be that No. 1 guy," Cornell coach Mike Schafer said. "If both of them step up and it's equal, both of them will play. ... Both did a really good job last year, and they're both very confident right now."
Neither goalie said the battle for playing time has affected them in a negative way. In the end, they're still teammates.
"If you couldn't get along with the guy, I think it just means it's more difficult if you had guys butting heads all the time," Davenport said. "We can throw ideas off each other, see what he thinks and he sees what I think. Hopefully, we can use each other's information and get better."
Both put up solid numbers last season. Davenport posted a 2.41 goals-against average, .899 save percentage and 11-7-2 record in 24 games, while Scrivens was 3-6-2 with a 2.30 GAA and .911 save pct. But the Big Red finished 2006-07 with a 14-13-4 record and a disappointing early exit from the playoffs when Quinnipiac completed ECAC Hockey League quarterfinal sweep at Lynah Rink.
There are a lot of areas in Cornell's game that have been targeted for improvement - and consistency from the goalies is one of them.
"Goaltending is definitely going to be key for us this year," said forward Topher Scott, a senior co-captain. "If one of them steps up, we can be a really, really dangerous team. All of them have the ability to do it, it's just a matter of one of them saying, 'I'm the man' and really gettin'er done."
Scrivens and Davenport get it done in slightly different ways. Davenport describes his style as more technical and dependent on angles. Scrivens tends to position himself deeper in the crease with his bigger frame and make reactionary saves.
In a way, it mirrors their personalities. Senior defenseman Doug Krantz summed it up as, "Troy's a little more quiet. 'Scrivs' likes to chat it up a little bit."
Added Davenport: "It's kind of fun to have two different personalities like we have. To see him talking all the time and I'm a little bit more of a mellow guy who just goes with the flow. We have a good time."
The good times should continue if both goalies continue to develop and improve over the next couple of years. Davenport said having a full year of experience under his belt makes a huge difference in regards to reads on plays and expectations in college hockey in general.
Scrivens said a more business-like approach may be the key for him.
"Last year, coming in from my junior career, my practice habits weren't where they needed to be for the coaching staff to look at me every game," Scrivens said. "Coming in this year, I know what the coaches expect as far as practicing goes. I'm used to the speed of the game. ... I know what's expected of me. It's my turn to step up."
From chatty to reserved, from aggressive to calculated, and from starting half the games to starting all of them, the bottom line doesn't change.
"They're different personalities - but when the puck hits the ice, they're both really focused," Schafer said. "They're very similar in a lot of aspects."
Those similar aspects are the ones that makes goalies so, as Scrivens said, 'out there.' The competitive nature. The perfectionism. The desire to put the team on their shoulders on any given night. Those similar aspects are the only ones that matter to the Big Red.
did anyone happen to catch 1st period SOG?
15-5 rit
15-5 rit
15-6. Picky picky.
Early Red pp. LGR!
"cornell getting into the clutch and grab they're known for"--RIT announcers
thanks
anyone with video see what greening did?
This PP would be nice for getting some chances to get the ice tilted back in Cornell's favor.
Okay maybe this PP can tilt the ice back in Cornell's favor.
"One pass too many" grumble grumble.
anyone with video see what greening did?
I heard from someone at the game that it (the call) was "bullshit." I didn't get much beyond that. :-)
anyone with video see what greening did?
He earned his early trip to the dressing room. The penalty call was late, but right.
Sawada misses an apparently open net.

Tell that person to watch Randy Jones's hit on Patrice Bergeron earlier this afternoon, and ask him or her whether a hit from behind into the boards should be, at a minimum, an automatic major and game misconduct.
I just watched that video. Ugly hit, I agree with reports that there was no intent to injure. But a hit from behind is a hit from behind and it wasn't pretty.
I was wrong. Greening got a Game Misc (not a DQ), so he's gone.
Is video being run through redcast?
Is video being run through redcast?
Nope.
Thanks, just got home. Live stats working for anyone?
Cornell back on the PP.
~ 2:30 left in the second
At least something good is happening in the third period: RIT commentary seems to have dropped off the video cast.
Edit: Damn, they heard me and fixed it.
At least something good is happening in the third period: RIT commentary seems to have dropped off the video cast.
oh no its back!
Scrivens at the blue line! What?
Not a good night for special teams... 0-7 on the PP and then letting RIT score 2 PPG.
I know, special teams takes a bit of time to come together especially considering it is still a "young" team and they have only been practicing "offically" for about 2 weeks.
Still 12:45 left in the game.
Garbage goal...2-1
finally. something good. 2-1
Own goal by Menard?
its is roch.. i would take two more garbage plate specials..
"Cornell euphonium players" did a cheer.

RIP, Nick Tahou
These announcers are ridiculous. Besides the fact that they are completely obnoxious, I love how "Scrivens" gradually morphed into "ScrivNER" throughout the broadcast. Also, "one of the great games of RIT hockey history"? That says a lot about RIT hockey.
That says a lot about RIT hockey.
I think it says more just as much about Cornell.
Edit: that's a bit too far...
It's a big win for their program. I can understand their excitement. They were D-3 just a couple years ago, and I don't think they've ever beaten an NC D-1 opponent.

They beat St. Lawrence shortly after turning D-1. 10/28/05

Sorry, but when they say this is "up there" with national championship games, that's being a little myopic. Definitely a big win for the D1 chapter of the program, no doubt. But they came very close to knocking off Colgate two weeks ago, and will be a very good competition for many other schools in the future. Personally, I'd love to see them in the ECAC instead of Union.
That said, the radio guys put in quite the amateur performance. In a one goal game with less than 10 minutes to go, they should be CALLING THE GAME, and not making "School of Animal Husbandry" or "cinnamon gum" jokes. I generally think that stuff is funny if all they want to do is to remain local homers, but do it during intermission, or at the very least, not during play, and don't taunt your opponents.

Ick. I resign. Since the team is within a 2-hour drive of me for much of November, I won't be able to start any for a while anyway.

But that RPI-RIT commute would be a killer.::burnout::
Having said that, I agree with you.
