ECAC 4-0 so far tonight with wins over Providence, Ferris State, Sacred Heart, and UMass. RPI leading Minny 2-0 midway 2nd. Ho-hum.;)
[Edit: Oops! Make that 3-0 RPI late 2nd.]
RPI now leading UMinn 3-0!
Tied at 3 with 8:40 left.
RPI whistled for a 5 minute major that even the homer Goofer announcers did not think it was a valid penalty. I've only watched the third period. It looks like the refs are trying to give this game to the Goofers.

And they are succesful. 1:11 left, sing it was a major still 5 on 4.
4-3 Minn with 1:11 left.... PPG
Wow, golden chance by RPI at the end there, but they lose 4-3.
My favorite quote from the Goofer announcers was at the very beginning:
"Rensselaer Polytechnic is an up-and-coming program out of the East Coast Hockey Association".
Guess they got the memo about the ECACHL being renamed, but not about what the new name is ;)
Time spent on the Power Play after Rensselaer took a 3-0 lead late in the 2nd period:
Minnesota -- 11 minutes, 57 seconds (2 PPG)
Rensselaer -- 11 seconds

That says it all! I got the feeling that the officials were not going to let the Goofers lose.
::bang::
I will never complain about ECAC officials again (well at least not until next weekend. :-D ) I am used to refs that throw away their whistles in the third period, and players probably are also and play accordingly. Refs that find their whistles in the third period are a new experience for me -- and I don't like it.
There is a rule that says any hit from behind is a major penalty, but refs usually find something else to call if they don't want to call a major penalty. Lord's hit did not appear to me (or the Gopher fans on USCHO or the even incredibly biased Minnesota TV announcers) to be worth a major penalty or perhaps even a minor. Oh well, the team should learn from this. RPI looked good for a team playing 3 sophs and 3 Frosh on defense at least for the first 40 minutes.
