Title: OT - Trouble in Minny
Post by: ithacat on August 15, 2007, 10:21:57 PM
Jimmy O'Brien has left Minnesota after only one year to play with Seatlle in the WHL. JOB apparently was disenchanted with the Gophers' free-wheeling style of play and felt that Don Lucia was holding back his development. JOB knows he needs to play defense as well as offense and believes the WHL will be a better fit.

From what I had read and heard back home, this happened simply because he did not want to be a defenseman...

Eh, I'm going with the "I was drinking" defense.

Interesting to note the tone and content of Coach Don Lucia's comments about O'Brien leaving the Gophers for major junior.  Leading up to the announcement, there were two reports in the Minnesota paper that Lucia spoke to O'Brien twice - once by phone and once in person - and O'Brien said there was no truth to the rumors of his leaving.  Then, he left.

Sounds very much like our own Romano-Schafer story.  Except for the much classier, more professional way Lucia handled things after the fact.

Funny story about Tony and the Cornell coaches.  When Tony stopped into the coaches' office to say goodbye before leaving campus for the summer, I mean, for good, all three coaches were laughing when they asked him, "So, are you going to London or Rimouski?"  Tony's response was, "Why would I go to Rimouski, it's in the middle of nowhere."

So to claim they were caught totally unaware might not be exactly true since they were joking about destinations with him.

for a guy that hates the man so much, you sure have a pretty extraordinary access to Schafer and his coaching staff...pretty convienent.

Maybe he's a troll under the floorboards in the hockey office.

I think it's very likely that he's a troll of some form.

Not to defend the guy, but it's much more likely that he is freiend's with and has access to Romano.

Perhaps, but if his contact is through Tony then it would undercut his claim to have been around a few years ago for the big 'rape coverup' that he keeps spouting about.

Even more likely is that he has access to Parmesan or Mozzarella and a whole lotta Poretti.::drunk::

Really?  Maybe I read things differently, but ending your statement with:

QuoteI'm looking forward to the 2007-08 season and defending the MacNaughton Cup and Broadmoor Trophy.[/q]

is basically saying "asshole" to the departing player.  Completely unnecessary to say that sentence without meaning to send a message.
