Title: Alumni in the Pros - May 2007
Post by: Chris 02 on May 08, 2007, 08:31:40 AM
And with the elimination of the Sharks last night, that puts an end to the 2006-2007 season for Cornell alumni...unless there's someone in Europe or the AHL still going?

O'Byrne and Moulson are still alive with their respective AHL teams.

The only thing still going on in Europe is the World Championship, and I don't think there are any Cornellians there.  Although Team USA does include Chris Clark (Clarkson), Erik Cole (Clarkson), Brian Pothier (RPI) and Lee Stempniak (Dartmouth).  Oliver Jonas (Harvard) is also on Team Germany, but they were eliminated when the Czech Republic lost to Canada in overtime and backed into the last quarterfinal slot.

Title: Ryan O'Byrne

Ryan O'Byrne helps Hamilton Bulldogs along the playoff trail with an assist on the GWG in a win over Chicago.  (They went to two overtimes in the first game of the series.)  He had 4 penalty minutes in each game.

[q]In the first overtime at the 3:18 mark, Michael Lambert tipped in a shot from the point by Ryan O'Byrne to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 win and take a 2-0 stranglehold on the Western Conference Final series. Eric Manlow recorded the other assist on the overtime game-winning goal.[/q]

Ryan seems to have come alive offensively in the playoffs.  After failing to score and tallying 12 assists in 80 reguilar season games, he has one goal and 5 assists in the first 14 playoff games, jumping from -7 to +7.  http://stats.theahl.com/stats/player.php?id=1470
Title: Matt Moulson

Matt Moulson also still contributing, most recently in a loss

[q]The Monarchs refused to go into the locker room scoreless as left wing Matt Moulson recorded his second goal of the playoffs on a delayed penalty.  Center Gabe Gauthier nudged the puck to right wing John Zeiler through Hershey bodies.  Zeiler fed the puck up to Moulson who skated in on net, deked to his left to bring the goalie to the ice and then flipped the puck over the fallen netminder Frederic Cassivi.[/q]

By the way, the Kelly Cup Finals of the ECHL features the Idaho Steelheads against the Dayton Bombers. The starting goaltender for Idaho is Steve Silverthorn and the backup is John Daigneau.

(Dayton won Game 1 earlier tonight).
