Title: Huh?
Post by: DeltaOne81 on April 22, 2007, 07:16:29 PM
How does a goalie who wasn't playing get a 2 + game + 5 game suspension for slashing? Anyone see it?

According the espn article:  "Mayfair [the article also calls him "Playfair"] inserted McLennan late into Saturday's game to conserve Kiprusoff for Game 6, but McLennan lasted only 18 seconds."

He was playing.  Came in for 18 seconds before the slash.  From the AP game story:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/recap?gid=2007042105

"The lopsided game took an ugly turn with a few minutes left when Calgary backup goalie Jamie McLennan slashed Johan Franzen in the midsection.

McLennan was on the ice for only 18 seconds because he was penalized for slashing and removed from the game with a match penalty and game misconduct."

Plenty of YouTube video from it:

Ah, okay. In my own defense I've been trying to fly standby out of BWI for the last 6 hours. Now its time for my official flight in half an hour. Much obliged :)

That and a faulty boxscore

I'd say Franzen got the last laugh when he scored the game winner in 2OT to eliminate the Flames last night--err, this morning.
