Surprised it hasnt already been posted
Games tonight are a 5pm Northeastern/BU and the 8pm Sucks/BC
Broadcast on NESN for those of you in the Northeast or with really good cable packages. To be honest I havent really been staying on top of any of these teams... I know BC beat BU about a week ago 5-2
And hey, why not start a guess, erm, prediction thread while we're at it? I haven't seen any other predictions (I'm sure they're there, I just haven't read them), and I haven't seen NE play, so I'm a bit in the dark. But I'm predicting a relatively unsurprising time:
Today:
BU beats NE scoring 5 points (let's say 5-1, even though I don't know anything about NE)
BC beats Sucks 4-2
Next week:
BU beats BC 5-3 (that was my prediction for the BU @ BC game I saw two weeks ago, and I'm sticking with it)
Sucks socks NE 3-1
You never know. NU, as much as they usually suck, has thrown in some zingers this year (wins over Michigan, BC, and Maine, and a tie against BU). If they had anyone but BU tonight, I'd pick them to win. But somehow BU just pulls it together for this tourney, so yeah, BU over NU. And Sucks will...well, suck. So, once again, it'll be BU/BC next week.

There are a LOT of empty seats. I'm talking about whole sections that are empty. Does this indicate that these are no longer sellouts?

Keep in mind the Northeastern goalie is Brad Thiessen, who was being recruited by Cornell, if I recall correctly. Thought I saw a graphic showing his record as something like 5-2-2 with a GAA of 1.28.::twitch::

He was recruited by Cornell and North Dakota. He apparently chose Northeastern in large part due to their journalism program.
2-0 BU after 2

If that's true, it's too bad he didn't look at Cornell more closely. The Sun has produced a lot of top-notch journalists over the years. Northeastern may have a better journalism program than Cornell (which isn't hard to do since we don't have one), but no one's got a better college paper than the Sun!
...and he scores on himself.
He came out of the net to play the puck, with BU up 2-0 late in the third. Turning around to try to keep the puck away from a hard-charging Terrier, the poor guy shot the puck into his own net. So much for any last shot NU had tonight.
4-0 BU final
In reading the score update thread on USCHO it sounds like Thiessen put one in himself.

Right. He coulda been the next Bill Howard!::drive::

Have you actually read the Sun in the past 5 years?

Yes, I have. It's not as consistently good as it used to be (especially with some of its sports coverage), but it's still an excellent college paper.
Sucks leads 1-0 midway through the first. Expect the collapse any minute now.
I was surprised by the number of fans cheering for the Harvard goal, but then I realized they are probably BU fans rooting against BC. ::burnout::
I think it's pretty funny to see the freshman goalies with their plain, white helmets. I know someone commented on Scrivens, and watching this game I see Richter hasn't painted his mask, either.
If I remember correctly, McKee had his Texas Tornado colors until maybe after winter break. I could be totally wrong on this, though.
Any free audio or anything for the Beanpot games?
Harvard announcers whining about their schedule (as usual). It's 2-1 BC, but the Eagles are dominating the third period. 2:58 to play.

WHRB has the Harvard feed.
3-1. Another vintage Harvard Beanpot performance. ::pain::
The Crimson keep their annual consolation date in the BU Invitational.

This NY Times article about Brian Leetch's unofficial-retirement from today mentions that Mark Messier has a 19 year old son playing defense for the Texas Tornado.

Harvard lost? I'm SHOCKED. ::rolleyes::
And in a stunning upset it's... BU and BC in the Beanpot final. Yawn.
The last time Harvard beat either BU or BC in the SF: 1998 (9 years)
The last time Northeastern beat either BU or BC in the SF: 1988 (19 years!)
In 55 seasons, Harvard and Northeastern have never met in the final.
