Hmmm...today's Ithaca Journal says Mike needs two wins to tie Bertrand.

Thought: what about that game that Schafer was suspended for @ Yale. Could that be the difference?

Did we win it?  It's a good theory, anyway.

Yeah we won the game.  So that could be it.

Not likely; there's no entry for Brekke/Garrow in the media guide under Career Coaching Records, and Schafer's numbers equal the total number of games played during his coaching tenure.

More likely: the 9-0 BU game in 72-73. Cornell media guide counts the game as a forfeit win for Cornell, and has Cornell's record for that season as 23-5-1. TBRW shows the game as a forfeit win for Cornell in the game-by-game listing for the 72-73 season, but has Cornell's record for the season as 22-6-1 in the overall won-lost records (see the attached screen capture).

Darn, I should remembered that one ;)

Can Greg confirm that that makes the difference in the math?

P.S. Even if neither Greg nor the media guide did it, *should* Schafer have a win taken away for that day?

Bertrand has 230 wins, Schafer will have to wait until at least Florida for a chance to tie or overtake, currently sitting at 228.

There must be history for this - suspended coach's wins not counting. With say Woody Hayes or Bob Knight or other famous hotheads from the sporting world.

Schafer has been suspended for other games that Cornell has won.
eg Vermont at Cornell in 2004 (I remember people in the townie sections sitting with pictures of Schafer on popsicle sticks)
