Title: Schafer not happy
Post by: dbilmes on November 25, 2006, 08:16:13 AM
Some tough words from Schafer about Cornell's play in today's Ithaca Journal (http://tinyurl.com/vr5bu)
"I'm not very happy with our play," said Schafer on Wednesday before beginning practice for this weekend's two-game series with Wayne State. "We can play better as a team. We are showing bits and pieces of what we can do.
"We have to play with a lot more consistency and a lot more urgency during the course of the game."

The article goes on to say:
But at this point, youth is no longer an excuse for not playing Cornell hockey, Schafer said.
"We're done talking about youth," he said. "The young guys have to step up play now. They have to make the right reads. They've had their learning curve.
"I'm expecting our guys to play as guys that have been around college hockey for a month — to be physical and do what they need to do for success."

Sounds like he's using the press to send a message to the players. I'm sure he's also sent the same message to them in practice. It will be interesting to see how the team responds.

The first couple of lines are very close to what Roll said about Clarkson's recent play especially the pair of road losses at St. Cloud last weekend.  Good coaches have a way of sending that message.

The practices here this week were tough and the message got through apparently as Tech played well in both games, particularly tonight against a very good Miami team.

And oh yes, Dell made a few very strange calls, including a hook against Miami and a coincident dive on Clarkson's Nick Dodge when the latter drove hard to the net.  A penalty shot easily could have been called.
