Re: Thoughts of BU-CU & Beyond - 21 years ago
Well, The Vermont game was 5-0 after the first period. If pulling the goalie then would piss him off, then would he be pissed off if the coach picked another goalie to start the game? After all, if he doesn't play every game he plans to attend, then that will hurt his chance to break Cornell's single-season shutout record! Seriously, do you really think pulling a goalie to give a backup some pby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Thoughts of BU-CU & Beyond - 21 years ago
And having someone step onto the ice to be the goalie for their first minute of College Hockey against Maine is not ideal. That is why I have been hoping that in some of these lopsided games, Coach would put in one of the other goalies. I don't buy the argument that "you cant pull the goalie because he has a shutout". I think the right thing to do is to get Marr and/or Chabot plaby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: TBRW new look - 21 years ago
Greg, Last year you had a wonderful feature called "You be the Committee" which down in its' bowels let the user alter games and add games to the database and see how that affected the pairwise comparison. Would you consider creating a similar feature that would let users put in games and see how it affects the RPI? We could start wasting time with this now, and not have to wait unby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Saturday BU updates - 21 years ago
BRA, If you want to get a feel for how important the out of conference games that Cornell plays are, you should go to and play with the "You Are The Committee" resource. If we reverse the results of last year's Estero (Changing the losses to wins, not changing the opponents), then we jump from 7th in Pairwise to 1st. I think that an ECAC team can make a pretty good argument that oby nshapiro - Hockey

Not a bad year for Cornell Football - 21 years ago
Given the fact that we had that big win over Towson, who beat Morgan St, who beat Hampton, who beat James Madison, who beat UNH, who beat UMass, who beat Villanova, who beat Rutgers, who beat Army, who beat Tulane, who beat Southern Miss, who beat Illinois, who beat Wisconsin, who beat West Virginia, who beat Boston College, who beat Notre Dame... I guess you could say that on any given day...by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: 'new' - 21 years ago
Try reading the threads "bottom up" - starting with the oldest thread that has a new tag. This seems to prevent the undesirable removal of the new tag from unread threads.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Premature RPI, PWR and KRACH - 21 years ago
John, You might want to sort the table at the above link by RPI, that way the TUC are the top teams and the PWR rankings will display properly. Neilby nshapiro - Hockey

I think if Age has a problem, he should approach Alumni Affairs and ask them to sponser elynah. This is really a great outreach program for the university.by nshapiro - Hockey

Can the Belt get to Ithaca? - 21 years ago
Sorry to have a vaguely hockey related thread, but I just noticed that BU is now holder of the Championship Belt. If they can win their next 5 games - all at home - then Cornell will get a chance to claim it. BU schedule until they come to Ithaca: Sat 11/09/2002 Merrimack 7:00 ET Fri 11/15/2002 Boston College 7:00 ET Sat 11/16/2002 Maine 7:00 ET Thby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Surprised it took them so long... - 21 years ago
Age, Through this site, you provide a tremendous service to Alumni. I think the appropriate question is really "Why isn't this site given permission to use Cornell trademarks?" I would appreciate it if Age could take a minute to explain his relationship with Athletics and the University. I know that they let you run those feeds, so in some way they are sanctioning elynah. Re: Surprised it took them so long... - 21 years ago
As an undergrad at Cornell, everyone knew that the University was only marginally interested in your progress. Nobody - unless you were very lucky and had a good advisor - paid much attention to you. It was up to the student to get involved, be pro-active in seeking out activities. I felt that this changed significantly when one graduates. Suddenly, we are a valuable commodity. Well, Laura always posted (and i hope continues to post) the satellite coordinates for the television feeds here at elynah, so I know how to tune the games even though I dont have DirectTV.by nshapiro - Hockey

Its an amazing world...last week I wouldn't have been able to tell you what or where Quad City is....and this week, I find out they are big hockey fans and I might be going there (Moline to be precise) for work in a few months. As a Suburban Philly resident...I will admit that I didn't know the Phantoms had a radio station...but I know they were on comcast a few times...did you get any TV timeby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: The New Radio Guy - 21 years ago
Yes, 1995-1997 would be just right. I remember the most annoying thing about those broadcasts was that they only had 1 or 2 sponsers, and you heard the same ads over and over and over.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: The New Radio Guy - 21 years ago
A few years ago when I lived close enough to Princeton, I used to listen to PU hockey on 920am. I remember that the play-by-play was excellent, and even defended it on CHDB when all the non-Grady commentators were beiing trashed. I think that was Adam....maybe he can confirm or deny this.by nshapiro - Hockey

Some people are never satisfied - 21 years ago
Age, Since you are now tracking which posts are new since someone's last visit, could you possibly put a "new" tag on the far right of the title line for each post that is new. This would make it easy to scroll down to posts the user has not yet seen, without having to read or check the dates of each post.by nshapiro - Hockey

Fred, I conversely have posted only 41 times, so roughly 1 out of every 200+ posts are mine... and I can assure you that less frequent posting is no guarantee of having a life.by nshapiro - Hockey

Where is Wieckowski - 21 years ago
Just noticed this at More roster moves! Posted Thursday 10.10.02 The Atlanta Thrashers have reassigned defenseman Luke Sellars from the Chicago Wolves to the Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League. In addition, the Wolves have signed right wing Judd Medak and assigned him to Greenville and released center Krzysztof Wieckowski.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: OT: Baseball scoring - 21 years ago
By the way, why was 6 afraid of 7?), This is the kind of groaner my 9 year old comes home with... and the answer is.... because 7 8 9 (say it out loud) And since this is a baseball scorekeeping thread, I am wondering how to score a play I saw this year: Runner on third, one out. Batter swings at pitch in dirt, strike 3....throw to first for putout, Runner from third scores. Is this aby nshapiro - Hockey
