Scersk '97 Chris '03 Scersk '97 ARE YOU READY FOR SOME PUNTING!!! This reminds me of the Tim Pendergast era. When the offense was on the field and facing third down, the sideline would yell "punt team!" Coaches included. Talk about having confidence in your offense.... Quick kick! No one ever sees it coming! Unironically, since punting is actually the second most important stby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

Trotsky jtwcornell91 I have to say, Dartmouth is the last Ivy whose students I'd expect to unionize. They have the most vocal douchebags, but those are an incel minority there as on every other campus. I feel like that could be a Dartmouth motto: "We have the most vocal douchebags".by jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

billhoward martyOne of their biggest income streams for local channels is the payments they collect from cable. The Youtube guys who are worried here think that everything will be scrambled so that all viewers will have to pay the equivalent of the cable fee to see the channels. My crystal ball is cloudy here, but if enough antenna users bitch this will be unlikely to occur. Channels that originby jtwcornell91 - John Spencer Is Dead

dag14 How do you people remember this stuff? I am not sure what I had for breakfast this morning. Well, I was just reflecting on the fact that current undergrads were not born when all this happened.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Beeeej jtwcornell91 Chris '03 Shep also picked up a fighting major at Lynah in 2000. And a double-DQ, IIRC, since he skated the length of the ice to fight with our goalie (Ian Burt?) That was Union's Leeor Shtrom in 1998. Oh, right. We seem to have had a lot of goalie fights back then.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky The chant I remember was a sizeable group of Colgate coeds at Starr chanting "Harder! Harder!" with appropriate intonation. One of the best chants I have ever heard, by any crowd. I remember Shep Harder, who played goalie for Colgate around the same time, whacking his stick on the ice at the end of a penalty, and several of us shouting "Harder! Whack it harder!" World Chess Championship 2023 - 12 months ago
I have to admit, I followed this one less closely, only noting the results after the fact, and not looking much at the games (or following them live as I did for a few in 2021). I have some distaste for deciding the match with tie-breakers using shorter time control, although I suppose rapid chess is sort of like overtime. If they ever get to the blitz tiebreakers, it will be the equivalentby jtwcornell91 - John Spencer Is Dead

Iceberg TrotskyOTOH, the most serious students I've ever seen at any school are Community College students, because they're paying out of their own pocket. If you're studying Philosophy at a CC it's because you fucking want it. it's not just a credential you're picking up between frat parties on your way to working at Dad's firm. I can think of quite a few people at Cornell who came from a CCby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky Let me guess. It's his typical garbage take about oh noes those wokies will doom us all. BearLover billhoward Trotsky Opening against a 3-time national champion who has played 5 games, what could go wrong? Those coming from the current coach, Scott Sandelin, in 2011, 2018, 2019. Plus, since 2011, an additional FF semifinal loss and title game loss. They were also on pace to be a 1-seed in 2020 and go for the three-peat when the season got cancelled. Trotsky Having spent some time in Alberta I am scared as fuck of bears. Yeah, but there you presumably have to worry about Grizzlies. Here it's just black bears, and the usual advice is to scare them away (and don't tempt them with your food).by jtwcornell91 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Trigger warnings . . . - 1 year ago
billhoward The NYT is following the WSJ OpEd people, who've been mining the kerfuffle at Stanford and to a lesser extent, Ann Coulter getting shouted down at Cornell. I'm pretty much an absolutist on speaker's rights. If you go to a forum, at a university, the speaker speaks while the audience listens and in Q&A asks questions, likely pointed questions. Re: 2023 Frozen Four - 1 year ago
I said to my wife, the marketing geniuses at Quinnipiac, Inc. must be thrilled that their advertising investment has paid off. As consolation she pointed out that the media doesn't cover College Hockey, so no one will hear about it. But then this morning my phone informed me that Nate Silver tweeted about it (with his always-funny "Fighting Pollsters" joke ).by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

RichH Trotsky Either there is no "deserves," or the team that wins deserves it. Divine Mandate. This. “Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.” I read it as "who do you want to win it". upprdeck so looking at the schedule.. If you have espn on cable/youtube/etc you can watch the stream as well as on the cable you pay for If you pay for ESPN+ you can watch the stream Both require you pay for something. You can buy ESPN+ standalone without buying cable last I knew. Right, I have espn+ as part of the Disney+ bundle, and I've used it to watch assorted college hockey gamby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: 2023 Frozen Four - 1 year ago
upprdeck espn+ is stand alone subscription as it is as long as you pay for it. This was not true last year, or at least the games were only available on the ESPN channels and not espn+. (I was able to watch about 30 minutes of the 2022 regionals before they told me my trial was over.)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: 2023 Frozen Four - 1 year ago

Re: 2023 NCAA Tournament: Regionals - 1 year ago
Regionals results by conference: Big T*n: 6-2 (2 left alive) ECAC: 3-3 (1 left) Hockey East:2-1 (1 left) NCHC: 1-3 CCHA: 0-2 Atlantic H: 0-1 Granted, our numbers are padded by Quinnipiac, but the ECAC ended up with a pretty respectable regionals performance, notwithstanding the Friday Night Massacre.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: 2023 NCAA Tournament: Regionals - 1 year ago
Trotsky I have a confession to make. While we were in, I was rooting hard for the rest of the ECAC to advance. Now that we are out, my interest in the rest of the tournament has dropped to exactly zero. I still hope Q advances and wins, but I don't care.
