Re: Cornell @ St. Lawrence, 2/24 - 7 weeks ago
billchu Here is my attempt at a screenshot from the offside. St. Lawrence #14 looks to be offside by a foot or so. In real time, it was impossible to tell. I’m sure with the replay frame-by-frame it was more obvious. I watched the replay on demand and your screen shot shows it as I saw it—-#14 offside by a good footby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 7 weeks ago
Trotsky George64 Gabriel Seger Named 2024 ECAC Hockey Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Congratulations Gabe! Also interesting to note, Cornell alum, Ben Tupker ‘23, was Union’s nominee.Often "scholar" athlete awards have more than a hint of bullshit about them, but from that article Seger certainly sounds like an impressive student. arugula Just read/skimmed a very loong ESPN article about college coaches coming and going. Earl and Cornell not mentioned. Mitch Henderson and James Jones both noted as possibly moving on. Slightly insulted, but pleased if true. Those two guys just have a longer track record of success. This is Earl's first really successful team.by scoop85 - Other Sports

mountainred scoop85 dbilmes The saddest thing about the women's basketball program is that due to years of mediocrity, there is no fan base and no excitement about the program. The official attendance for their home loss to Yale on Saturday was 183. It can't help recruiting efforts if potential players watch a game either in person or on TV and see it being played before such a small crowd. Corneby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Yale at Cornell, shrouded in mystery - 8 weeks ago
marty Mystery illness. Mike wasn't as PO'd as I expected perhaps because some of the players were ailing. I noticed a nice stick blade shaped hole in the wall on the bottom left of the video. Maybe from DeSantis after yet another sure goal was thwarted?by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
BearLover adamw I should probably just shut up - but I'm not good at that. I think Ben Syer and Topher are great guys. Neither will be the next coach. Casey Jones is one of my favorite people in hockey, and I think he's a great coach. However, he's only 4 years younger than Coach Schafer - and so it won't be him either. Why won’t Ben Syer be the next coach? Perhaps some guys are cut out to bby scoop85 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 marty sah67 Ken Schott spoke to Schafer and Castagna at the postgame presser: Mike had a nice little wisecrack about Schott confusing 2024 for 2014 and suggested he not run for office Anyone who doesn't watch this video especially from the 3 minute mark to the end will be banned from eLynah. Even more important than listening to Jason's pregame interview, BL. Castagnby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
BearLover There are only two realistic candidates to take over when Schafer finally decides to call it quits: Casey Jones and Ben Syer. Casey has had some decent success at Clarkson, but I think it’s very likely to be Syer, assuming he doesn’t take a job elsewhere in the interim. Syer is young and has been top assistant for many years during some of the best times for the program. It’s not goingby scoop85 - Hockey

adamw upprdeck well sometime in the next 2-10 yrs we will have to find out what a diff coach can.. I doubt he will be here when he is 70 so the window is probably even smaller. I'm going to go out on a really short limb and say that the odds of finding another coach that does as good a job, are about 5%. And that may be generousby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ RPI, 2/9 - 2 months ago
Solid win, despite our inexplicable inability to put home one of the numerous breakaway chances. And I thought RPI’s unis were quite snazzy.by scoop85 - Hockey

dbilmes If we think our freshmen are good, BC has an all-freshman line which has combined for 38 goals this season. If we had 3 1st rounders on a line they’d have the same type of productionby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 2 months ago
CU2007 Is there a world where Cornell continues winning but stumbles in say the Ivy League title game and gets an at large to the dance? I don’t know enough about college hoops but have always heard the Ivy League is, and always will be, a one bid league. Perhaps if we go 14-0 in the regular season and lose in the final. But even that may be a stretch, since we won’t have any quad 1 wins.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Dunc marty adamw I realize everyone only sees things through their own lens - but Rich is right - it's like this everywhere. It's harder to get people to go - and, if they go, to get them to be loud. Heck, trying comparing concert crowds of today to yesteryear. It's a combination of everything - cost, being able to watch nice video streams, and the cell phone culture. Add it all up. VIEWfromK For me the shift away from Lynah began when the Men’s basketball team went on their back to back NCAA tournament runs. Well, until last Saturday’s Princeton game Newman has been pretty much a ghost town for the better part of a decade. I think the cheap streaming (which I’m thankful to have) is the biggest factor in the attendance drop-off.by scoop85 - Hockey

dbilmes How about some love for the women's basketball team. They beat Dartmouth handily for their first Ivy win in a battle for the basement. Glad for them, but that program needs new leadership.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 2 months ago
Trotsky Still shows as Cornell on Elite Prospects, but there appears to be an X tweet where he announces for RPI. I think what you see on X is him retweeting another kid who announced his commitment to RPIby scoop85 - Hockey

ugarte George64 As I recall, back in the Donahue era, Louis Dale was a walk-on... Dale wasn't a walk-on; he was an under-recruited gift who marketed himself to Donohue as a dynamic but 5'9 guard with an Ivy academic profile. I also don't think Foote was a walk-on for the Bonnies, he just wasn't getting much playing time and was apparently miserable. What you say about Dale is correct, but Fooby scoop85 - Other Sports

chimpfood I’m surprised he wasn’t recruited just for being 6 foot 7 and 235 pounds of muscle. Yeah, so many quality players are missed by college coaching staffs. Look at a guy like Ja Morant (putting aside his personal issues), whose dynamic talent was overlooked by all the power schools.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 2 months ago
Mr. Niss - we moved up only 9 in Ken Pom with the win but Princeton fell like 15 spots -- we should have swapped spots* - I legitimately felt Brian Earl should have been considered for coach of the year votes for the season coming out of Covid, when we were picked to be second-to-last in the Ivies and he implemented this run-and-gun style and had us in the Ivy tournament. He's a great coach aby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 2 months ago
Kudos to Brian Earl and his staff for building this team with guys who were, by and large, unheralded recruits with few if any other D1 offers. And how about walk-on AK Okereke who scored 12 points today? He fills an important roll on the team and is getting better each game. While an Ivy League title is a long way off, it will be nice to see Cornell listed in this week’s Joe Lunardi braketolby scoop85 - Other Sports

Dafatone adamw RichH upprdeck if go on any kind of a run we get our RPI above .5600 and we move up 3-5 spots.. Are we good enough to do that. Like unbeaten in their last 7? That kind of run? Some of us need to chill out about the PWR situation in January and enjoy the rest of the regular season. We’ve barely begun the 2nd half of the league slate. Things are typically still fluid into March.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Harvard, 1/26 - 2 months ago
Always good for a chuckle when the announcer, in acknowledging the large Cornell contingent in a visiting rink, says “they always travel well from Ithaca.” As if there aren’t thousands of Cornell alumns within spitting distance of most of the rinks we play in.by scoop85 - Hockey

JasonN95 Aren’t students returning this weekend? If yes, I’d wait for the next home weekend to evaluate the student section. In our day we’d be sure to come back Friday when break ended to attend both of the weekend games. It was a sacrifice of course to spend the weekend at school with no schoolwork to worry about, but that was before Cornell apparently became a place where fun came to die.by scoop85 - Hockey

upprdeck scoop85 I just noticed that there’s no game write-up yet on the Cornell Athletics’ website. Hard to fathom that a school with our resources would allow such an embarrassment. you mean Athletics get their act together? I did find the game summary, but it wasn’t showing on the home page. And to their credit they actually have game quotes! Jane McNally also had a nice game story in tby scoop85 - Hockey
