Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 1, Final - 13 years ago
amerks127 I don't think they have the staff either. It's hard enough for them to find writers willing to compose one coherent article a week. The handful of full time staff members aren't going to give up their entire weekends (in college) so they can write printable material and then additional material on the website. Staffing issues can be tough to work around, but that's where the spby Weder - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 1, Final - 13 years ago
amerks127 With fewer pages for articles, the Sports Department opted to spread out coverage instead of shorter stories for more sports. That's ridiculous. If you don't have space in the print edition, that's why you have a website. By Monday, many Cornell sports events are three days old ... and then you're going to hold the story for another day?by Weder - Hockey
Re: Women's Season Stuff - 13 years ago
Another stat of note: Doug Derraugh is within two wins of being .500 at Cornell. He went 37-72-9 in his first four seasons; he's 43-10-6 since the start of last season for a total of 80-82-15.by Weder - Hockey
Re: Women's Season Stuff - 13 years ago
Going off the notes that the athletics department released before the weekend, CU (22-1) now has its most wins in a season in program history, and its 18-game winning streak is three wins shy of the longest in NCAA history (held by Harvard).by Weder - Hockey
Re: Women's Season Stuff - 13 years ago
This list of recruits for next season lists two more players in the Team Canada pipeline. One wonders if, at some point, Cornell will have to forfeit a game because 75% of the team is off at an international competition. Also worth noting: One of the listed recruits has a decent acting career going.by Weder - Hockey

cbuckser David Harding Towerroad Sticking the (#1 ranked) women's team with what are perceived as inferior uniforms would probably not pass muster in the politically correct would of the University. I dislike political correctness but in is case both teams should wear the same uniform and each deserves our support. Let's hope that when the puck drops this is a thing of the past. Re: Tamboni to Penn State - 13 years ago
Even if the athletic department had an unlimited budget, Cornell simply is not going to give a head coach a salary that is out of step with what the tenured faculty are making.by Weder - Other Sports

Re: Lax: NC$$ Championship Weekend - 13 years ago
The last time the championship weekend was in Baltimore, there were plenty of tickets available through the stadium ticket office for the upper deck. Can't remember if you could get tickets in a particular school's section, though.by Weder - Other Sports

Tambroni's thoughts on the Ivy tournament: He says it's necessary, with the addition of two more automatic bids (Big East, NEC) next year reducing the number of at-large bids to eight.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Next Cornell basketball coach - 14 years ago
Al DeFlorio A bit of perspective from perhaps an unlikely locality: This got me wondering who makes the most at Cornell. According to the university's 2007 IRS filing, the top five salaries go to med school professors and range from $1.8 million to $3.3 million.by Weder - Other Sports

Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
peterg Northwestern already has a former Ivy coach in Bill Carmody, so the thought that a struggling big conference team might hire an Ivy coach is not unreasonable. OTOH, based on the upward trend in performance (including a win over Purdue this year) I'd be surprised if NU will be in the market for a new coach. There are plenty of others, though, that might. That's what I was getting at --by Weder - Other Sports
