Re: Cornell vs. Princeton--ECAC Semis - 6 years ago
Sports Illustrated ran an article relating the staging of an actual Rollerball match after filming was done at the Munich Olympic arena. The stuntmen in the film played under "Madrid Rules" and it sold out.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Princeton--ECAC Semis - 6 years ago
When Ned got the team started at Union, his team was all freshman, skating against much more experienced division II teams, and, once, defeating UNH when they were the number one DIV I team in the country. His teams skated out to the Starship cut of Miracles which is far from your usual pump-up song. But with the arena lights dimmed and sequentially getting brighter as they skated out it was faby TimV - Hockey

Trotsky abmarksWhile I hate all the staged game presentation crap that shows up nearly everywhere in sports these days...but, skating on to the ice, choreographed to a pep band playing? I'd pay extra to see that. That's what I was thinking. It sounds like Tokyo's synchronized skating in Rollerball. Houston had their own- the "Power Stride." Jon-a-THAN!by TimV - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 6 years ago
rss77 The Cornell job pays reasonably well... But even though the Cornell head coach is endowed, the AD probably looked at that as allowing him to budget less for lacrosse rather than paying more to keep him. I'm pretty sure it was all about the dollars, and the stuff about a position for his wife was a smokescreen. rss77 ...lacrosse has a long history at Penn State-hardly a newish progrby TimV - Other Sports

scoop85 Al DeFlorio Trotsky That's a great write up, thank you. Is there a movement in lax to have possession arrows? It was tried, and abandoned, to work it like basketball where the scored-upon team would be given the ball after a goal. Maybe TimV (or anyone else) can tell us why that approach failed. The biggest issue is that if you are going to eliminate the face off, you have to have aby TimV - Other Sports

BearLover On the topic of rising tides lifting all boats, there was never any evidence that a poor ECAC meant we couldn't complete for top recruits or a national title, so it's not surprising to see that in a year with a poor ECAC we are competing for top recruits and a national title. Another supporting example of BearLover's position is this year in lacrosse. UAlbany plays in one of the 2-by TimV - Hockey

Trotsky Our goal light only lights on one side, ya see. Gee that's strange... I noticed a similar quirk at RPI last night. Whenever we scored the goal light seemed to be on a seven-second delay.by TimV - Hockey

Swampy BearLover BigRedHockeyFan Full game replay on youtube RPI announcers instinctively thought Schafer was complaining about a call during the stoppage for him having taken a stick to the head. How's the stick doing? What condition is it in? It's in The Concussion Protocol.by TimV - Hockey

marty Larry72 Trotsky Bah. +1 To watch a great game be ruined by shootout was very disappointing. Especially at 2am! Let them play. I'm at work today and very happy I didn't stay up to watch a #$#@ shootout! If lucky my DVR recording ends before the shootout begins. I understand the sentiment, guys, but there WERE a couple of beautiful goals scored, including the winner for the Blue teamby TimV - Hockey

Trotsky So. Some bonehead "there's a rainbow in Toronto" doctor diagnosed him with tendonitis and if they hadn't caught it in time they could have needed to amputate his arm. Jeez Greg. Gimme a break. If this job was easy, ANYBODY could do it. Great vid though.by TimV - Hockey
Re: This Week in ECAC Hockey (Feb 22) - 6 years ago
Al DeFlorio KenP Nice recap of last week, although they need to bookmark the eLynah Speling Guide. Also, note injury update: Cornell has continued to play well despite the loss of forward Mitch Vanderlaan to injury. The junior co-captain hasn’t played since getting hurt blocking a shot on Feb. 3, but Schaefer hopes to have him back for the postseason. Speaking of which... No.That's whatby TimV - Hockey
Re: Newpaper sighting: Kid sporting hoodie in local paper - 6 years ago
I dunno. Looks to me like this should be in the basketball thread. Can you even buy a Cornell Basketball hoodie any more? Nahhh. I must be wrong. Nobody would wear one of those. It's a Hockey hoodie.by TimV - Hockey

Can anybody at the game tell me about the two players locked up on the ice at the blueline in front of Section B about halfway through the third period? No call but lots of hands in the air supplicating at the section.by TimV - Hockey
Re: RPI, 2/3/18 - 6 years ago
Not a bad idea as long as it doesn't send the wrong message and the team takes RPI too lightly. They have played some teams tough- including Uniom and Ylae.by TimV - Hockey

Good. That takes one seat away from other Blues. And one more option for the guy who started the thread. Call the Yale ticket office and sit at our attacking end for two periods. Wear your RPI hat so I can spot you on ILDN.by TimV - Hockey
