Wow, that second story was cold... Yale ran up a big score on Georgetown last week, didn't seem to remember that we're not Georgetown.by TimV - Other Sports

Geez. Final Score graphic shows us as 1-0 overall, 0-0 in the Ivy. HELLO???by TimV - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 17 Yale 14, 4th (Homecoming) - 15 years ago
Score of this game doesn't nearly reflect howw much Yale was handled today. Good. Others won't take us as anything more than having pulled off a fluke upset. If they punch in a TD at the series ending in the missed FG, that would have looked more like the real story of this game.by TimV - Other Sports

Was that the dreaded prevent defense? The deense has been dominating all game. Please don't change anything now!by TimV - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 14 Yale 7, halftime (Homecoming) - 15 years ago
Aside from the 67 yard punt return, Cornell completely manhandled Yale. Defense looks great, running game very effective. Yale losing poise as shown by lots of pushing and shoving and a few personal fouls. Hope the punt return doesn't shift the momentum, up to that point Yale body language looked like a beaten team.by TimV - Other Sports

Re: "Harkness Brought Winning to Cornell" - 15 years ago
I don't have any actual knowledge about the specifics, but I don't think there were very many Hotel hockey players. Canada being so agricultural, I think most were in the Ag school, which RPI also doesn't have. If anybody has any actual data on this I'd be interested in seeing it.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Ned Harkness at Union - 15 years ago
I had just moved to the Capital District when Union announced Ned as their coach, before they even built their rink. One day I came home to find Ned's business card stuck in my screen door - he actually was going door-to-door to promote his team. I bought season tickets the same day, figuring I'd sit through a losing season or two, but after that they would sell out. Wrong. His first teby TimV - Hockey
Re: "Harkness Brought Winning to Cornell" - 15 years ago
I agree- well done. Two observations though: "By 1963, Harkness was searching for a better place to raise his family" When Ned left RPI he wasn't reluctant to raise his family in the Troy area. He made the move out of recruiting considerations, one of which was less time away from his family because he was geographically closer to the Ontario recruiting grounds where he had so mby TimV - Hockey

1007 Van Antwerp Road - just around the corner from Union Street. Used to be Homestyle Pizza which moved up to Union Street (and is still very good.) Check it out on Google maps and see if that's the one.by TimV - Hockey

Harvard Hockey - Trouble in Paradise? - 15 years ago
Seems like they're missing some guys from the current roster: Jack Christian, Kyle Richter, Alex Killorn, Colin Moore, Sam Bozoian, Dan Moriarity. See it here: 2008-2009 Harvard Rosterby TimV - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse recruiting class - what does it mean? - 15 years ago
Why do you suspect more success in the Hudson Valley? We've had some great recruits from there, recently Tommy Schmicker, Kyle Georgalas and Andrew Collins, but a lot more are from LI and CNY, where it seems to me with Tambroni's West Genessee pedigree and Hobart history we should be doing better. There don't seem to be a whole lot of West Genny players in the Ivies lately. Is it because they'by TimV - Other Sports
Thanks Al... - 15 years ago
I agree with mnagowski - we convert a lot of the rangier mids to defensemen. Langton looks to me to be a candidate - he has size and apparently speed, and his summary is conspicuous in avoiding any scoring stats. On the goaltender front, there were a quite a few strong candidates in this years class, but I guess they passed because they have the Ithaca High kid who played on the Central Empiby TimV - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse recruiting class - 15 years ago
Yeah, and that prep type player bothers me. It is not characteristic of past Cornell teams that were dominated by public school guys, and more reminiscent of prior Harvard and Yale teams that heretofore have been bottom half of the league. Of course it's a stereotype, and perhaps grossly so, but there's a certain toughness that you get from the non-preps that just doesn't seem to be there withby TimV - Other Sports

Stumbled on this. People here were looking for a picture of the seniors Sawada, Scott, and Krantz just before they left the ice at Albany last March.Use the Browse link on the right for a couple more. I remember him most for how he would leap up on the dasher boards and stand on them, his arms folded, looking down on a scrum for the puck beneath him like Zeus amused by the toil of mere mortals. Great.by TimV - Hockey
