Re: Frozen Four at Ford Field? - 19 years ago
Add me to the DC vote. In addition to proximity to Metro and a bunch of restaurants and hotels, MCI is a 5-minute walk from the Mall, where there's no excuse for having nothing to do. Although there's no local big-time college hockey program, which may be a plus given recent experience with Michigan and Minnie in the regionals, youth hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in the area, andby ninian '72 - Hockey

Also, the College of William & Mary in Virginia, which received some public support when it was founded in the 17th century and for awhile thereafter, then was governed privately, and finally affiliated with the state/commonwealth in 1906. Although I haven't looked this carefully, I would guess that a number of other "colonial colleges" had a variety of public and private sources oby ninian '72 - Hockey

Gadowski's also the real deal. It took him two recruiting classes to turn around similarly sorry AAF, so - based on this track record - the projection may be a year premature.by ninian '72 - Hockey

I think if we try to make it look like a western style rink with box seats and everything it will take away from the atmosphere. Re: post-road trip of a lifetime - 19 years ago
On the other hand, there were a number of posts by MN fans on USCHO after the game complimenting the Red, the fans, and the band and saying that there should be more games between eastern and western teams. Although the outcome was not what we wanted to see, I think the Red's trip west increased respect for Cornell hockey. Re: 2005-06 Schedule - 19 years ago
As the third member of this list who went this route, let me jump in. Michigan hockey wasn't always like this. I was there in 72-78 and the fall I arrived was persuaded by a friend who'd gone to Brown to go halves on a season ticket. I'd been warned not to expect much, but I had no idea... This was hockey purgatory. Games were played in a small, scuzzy, out-of-the way rink, play was uninspirby ninian '72 - Hockey
Re: Way to go, ECACHL - 19 years ago
I wouldn't quibble about the talent level, but in the later Mazz years, there was some discussion that he had a schizophrenic approach to the type of players he brought in. Some were a good fit with a Cleary-type finesse team, others weren't. I expect Donato will have a more consistent vision about what he wants, particularly now that he has a year under his belt.by ninian '72 - Hockey

Harvard may surprise us. Their freshman crop showed a lot of potential, and I'll be curious to see what Donato's impact will be on recruiting.by ninian '72 - Hockey
Re: Attempting to retrieve the cowbell - 19 years ago
Depends on the size of the bell. Can go up to $30-$40. Our summer swim team has used them for years to encourage the kids during their races. One rival team makes a point to try to steal them. Pathetic to see it at this level. If worse came to worse, I have a relative lives about 30 min. from Minneapolis and raises longhorns for a hobby. Yes, very close by. It's a beautiful area in the northwest part of the state with a number of Indian reservations, national forests, lakes of course, and summer homes. A lot of community feeling. I'm sure it was devastating to the entire community.by ninian '72 - Hockey

Re: Michigan SUCKS! - 19 years ago
Red picked his words very carefully, probably because he doesn't want to add any fuel to the fire in a conference rivalry that's becoming very hot. He's high on tOSU, because they've been very competitive with Michigan over the past two years. However, I'm sure he'd rather see them come out of the West Region than another Red team, because the Buckeyes are a known factor. If Cornell advances pby ninian '72 - Hockey
