Exactly 3: Colgate, Dartmouth, and UNH. Everybody else is 0.500 or worse. As a contrast, Cornell has 7 wins (still not stellar, but certainly better than Lowell). Or, as in my of my all time favorite sentences, the guy they interviewed after Game 6 of the ALCS - some guy in a bar - who said "My haht stahped!" My personal favorite came the first time I went to the ECAC tourney at the Garden (in 1979). We were at "Sucks" Square and wanted to take the T to the Garden for the game, so we asked the guy selling tokens how to get there. Hby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Cornell waltzes into playoffs? - 19 years ago
No matter how bad they've been, Union has always given us trouble. God only knows why. The SLU(t) game will also be important because at least at the moment, they are a TUC. Given their 6 remaining games are all against TUC's, their RPI should hold steady or go up some, even if they lose a few. It will be a key game for the NCAA pairings, if not for ECAC tourney seeding.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Of Fandom, Then and Now - 19 years ago
One other aspect that's very different from my time is that way back then, the NCAA tournament was 4 teams and there were only three conferences. Two of the tourney berths went to eastern schools and two to western schools. If you won the ECAC tourney or the regular season you pretty much made the NCAA's. It was that simple. You didn't need to keep track of other schools, because the ECAC staby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: 2/5: Cornell 2 Colgate 1 (end 2nd) - 19 years ago
It's the flaw of the PWR. It overweights strength of schedule (IMO). If the good teams keep playing each other, they all wind up with decent RPIs. Then all they have do do is beat a few non-conference TUCs and they're all up there. Even the awful teams from their conference wind up TUCs, and the good teams from the conference wind up in the top 10 of the PWRby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
