Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 2 years ago
Trotsky We should study BU's power play. Since I am only following the stats (not listening on watching), I am not sure what you mean--BU's power play is 0 for 5 so far tonight.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 2 years ago
5 goals scored--in the first period? As an alum who graduated, ahem, almost 20 years ago, it's going to take me some time to wrap my head around high scoring Cornell hockey games. I'll gladly take the decrease in defense as it is offset by the increase in offense, and I can't argue with the results this season. LGR.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Men's Basketball 21-22 - 2 years ago
Cornell eases past Wells College in the first ever meeting between the two schools, 107-48. I normally wouldn't post about what was essentially an exhibition game, but I thought it was cool that all 16 players on Cornell's roster scored at least 2 points. When's the last time that happened? I doubt it has ever happened against a D-1 opponent.by djk26 - Other Sports

Congratulations to the Cornell men's hockey team on their first ever six point weekend!by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Funny opposing fans at games - 4 years ago
Beeeej djk26 U-H-N! Anyone remember this from the (gosh I'm old) 2002 NCAAs in Worcester, MA? New Hampshire fans had their "UNH" signs in the wrong order. Oh, yeah, I definitely remember that... I'm the guy who waited until the "U! H! N!" chanting died down, leaving a perfect moment of silence, then yelled, "HEY! DID YOU GET SIX CREDITS FOR THAT ART PROJECT??"by djk26 - Hockey

Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
osorojo And when it's over don't digitalize it, chop it into little pieces, rearrange them, and spit them back out. osorojo, you should know that Cornell hockey led the nation this year in scoring margin from the second half of the second period to the first third of the third period, on alternate Saturdays*, and as a Cornell fan, I'm damned proud of that. * I've checked these stats carefulby djk26 - Hockey
Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
osorojo Turn off your computers and watch the GAME! Trotsky "Turn off your computers!" he typed. Also, with most college hockey games, if you turn off the computer, then you CAN'T watch the game.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Season's Over - 4 years ago
ugarte i enjoyed this season immensely. the kids played great hockey, i got to see them live with my family at the garden, they closed on a dominant weekend where they blew out the #2 team in the conference. hang a banner, guys. i'm making peace with this. i think the impulse for many people is to look at things closing down or events cancelling right now as a sign of doom, but for the mosby djk26 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 polls 3/9 Cornell #2 - 4 years ago
mike1960 No no no! Not 2009. The old days, I meant. When Syracuse and Cornell ruled the roost. To talk about more recent times for a second--if you could combine Cornell's 2009 defense/goaltending, 2013 faceoff and 2020 offense, I think you'd have an unstoppable team.by djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
I just noticed that there are only two one loss teams in Division I college hockey, and they both play their home games at Lynah Rink. Pretty cool.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: MSG: Red Hot Hockey NEWS - 4 years ago
Dafatone I know, right? Wouldn't a sieve stop pucks? I felt the same way about the "black hole" cheer against the opposing goalie...do the fans still do this one? "You're not a sieve, you're a vacuum. You're not a vacuum, you're a black hole. You're not a black hole, YOU JUST SUCK." Ok, I get it, black holes do suck, but wouldn't they also gobble up the puck and not alby djk26 - Hockey
Re: IVY League standings - 4 years ago
I've always wanted the NHL to do 4 points for a regulation win, 3 points for an OT win, 2 points for a shootout win and 1 point for a shootout loss (and 0 points for a loss before the shootout.) I wonder if that would incentivize teams to be more aggressive to try to score. Probably not.by djk26 - Hockey

Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
The USCHO.com poll has Cornell #3 and Clarkson #7. Big game on Friday--a top 10 ECAC matchup.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Brown/Yale Weekend News - 4 years ago
RichH The writing in that Yale Daily News article. This is my favorite sentence--it's in the "reaching for something to write" category: Yale Daily News Facing both Colgate and Cornell over the same weekend is nothing new for the Elis. This could be a big advantage for Yale--no other team in the ECAC has this experience.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Princeton lacrosse 4/27/19 - 5 years ago
billhoward Win and Cornell is in the Ivy lacrosse tournament. I read through this whole thread and started to get nervous--but then I reminded myself that Bill's quote above is the key. Do that (win) and the other stuff doesn't matter. Beating Princeton (or Yale or Penn) will be tough, but that's what Cornell has to do now.by djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - polls 4/8/2019 - 5 years ago
Thanks for posting that, Bill, and bolding Cornell's opponents. You have to give the coaches (Coach Pete in particular) a lot of credit for putting together such a strong schedule for Cornell this year. If we had beaten Penn I'd feel much better about the season--as it is we are are probably one loss away from losing any chance at an at-large bid. As I type that it seems a little too bleak soby djk26 - Other Sports

KenP What do we know about Providence? If this graphic from Providence's twitter feed is any indication, this game will be close--the two teams appear to nearly identical in many key stats (of course their schedules were not identical...)by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Northeastern - 5 years ago
Congratulations Cornell! Great game today, the best NCAA tournament game in the 20 years I have followed the team. The first NCAA win by more than one goal since 2003.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Northeastern - 5 years ago
Greenberg '97 Christopher Boulay Arguably the strongest team not named St. Cloud State or Minnesota-Duluth this season, the Mavericks are in prime position to make a run. So you're arguing that the third-ranked team in the country may be the strongest team that isn't the first- or second-ranked team? Interesting take. I also like how in the middle of the Cornell write-up, the CHN writer starby djk26 - Hockey

Let's use the women's team's 2019 NCAA win against Northeastern as a good sign.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology 2019 - 5 years ago
Trotsky If this bracket is correct, we're beating Quinnipiac in the SF and Clarkson in the F. I feel silly asking this, but I don't get it--that link is to a bracket without any predicted winners filled in. If we're projecting our own winners in what we WANT to happen, I will have Cornell over Harvard in the championship game.by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology 2019 - 5 years ago
RichH It's the first time since The Divorce that the ECAC got 4 teams in. I just realized today that not only does the ECAC have 4 teams in, they have more than any other conference. No more "EZAC" (although I doubt an ECAC team will win it all this year.)by djk26 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Finals: Clarkson vs. Cornell - 5 years ago
It's Clarkson, 5-2 over Harvard. Good luck to Cornell--that's an impressive score for Clarkson against a good Harvard team.by djk26 - Hockey

Re: ECAC SF Lake Placid: Brown vs. Cornell - 5 years ago
Swampy We're pretty healthy this weekend, and relatively rested, so shortage of personnel should not be too much of an issue. I see that Andreev played in the series against Union, but I assume he is not 100%?by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - 5 years ago
I realize that it was against terrible competition, but JJ Lombardi looked pretty good yesterday. Any chance he can get some more playing time? Depth is always a good thing, and I never understand why freshmen don't seem to make the field in lacrosse. It's not that way in hockey.by djk26 - Other Sports
