Re: 2013-2014 Basketball - 10 years ago
ugarte mountainred Team cultures have four year lifespans. Thank you for this. Without glossing over how full the collapse has been, can we at least acknowledge that Donohue left Cornell just as the best senior class in Cornell history was graduating? There were some good players left on the team, and they had a history of success, but that success was due mostly to people who were no longer goinby mountainred - Other Sports

Josh '99 CAS Cornell basketball had a winning Ivy record for each of Donahue's last 6 years. There is no reason Cornell can't produce a competitive program. Look at the recent success of some of the other Ivies, who certainly haven't had a winning tradition. No, that's true. There's no fundamental reason Cornell can't produce a competitive program, certainly not at the Ivy level. But that's diby mountainred - Other Sports

Ken711 mountainred phillysportsfan Hard not to laugh when reading this article, Courtney sure said all the right things to get hired: "He said 'The Sweet 16 was great; why not Elite Eight?' " Wroblewski said. "He could tell there was talent left." Rita toddlose How much you think it'll take? I'm not sure, but IU alumni care about their basketball 100X times more than I think the Cornell alumni base. When I lived in the land of the Boilermakers (West Lafayette, 2004-2009), it was practically a state of emergency/diaster when the Indiana basketball teams did not make the NC$$s. I don't remember the exact numbers, but a substantial amount oby mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte Nevinger with a tough finish to a great career. He injured his knee at EIWAs and was never the same. Loses 9-1, and never really had a chance. I didn't see tonight, but the back injury that caused Mike to miss the early tournaments really meant Mike never looked right to me. He just never seemed to have the freakish core strength that he had the prior two seasons that allowed him to dby mountainred - Other Sports

phillysportsfan mountainred Awful news, if true, about Nolan. The only plus side is if this forces Andy to have to fire Courtney now Cancer, Harmon (who was a highly-regarded recruit even though he never played) and now Cressler. You have to hope that gets Andy's attention once he gets back from OKC. Of course, the school record for losses wasn't enough, so who knows?by mountainred - Other Sports

Re: 2013-2014 Basketball - Amaker to BC? - 10 years ago
Al DeFlorio Jim Hyla phillysportsfan Typical media, always trying to put the story out there first I think Amaker can hold out for better jobs, a good job in a bad league is better than a bad job in a good league Will be interesting to see where Donahue goes I could easily see Amaker going to BC. Maybe he likes living in Boston. Maybe his wife has cemented her career. Does he have kids? Mby mountainred - Other Sports

Ken711 mountainred phillysportsfan Cant believe Donahue gets to keep his job one more year Nothing against Steve, but that is very surprising. Donahue was fired today. So much for the earlier source.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte rss77 Here is the thing about this season: The team was making the same mistakes on defense at the end of the season that it did at the start of the season which was the following: No sliding over by players to help on interior defense which let opposing players drive to the basket No rotation off of double teams thus leaving guys on the outside for wide open threes It leads one toby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: 2013-2014 Basketball - 10 years ago
ugarte *** And then when all of them were seniors, the NCAA tournament committee looked around the room, nodded silently, and put the Red in a bracket as a 12 seed with two plodding, low-scoring teams as the 4 and 5 seeds. Cornell destroyed both of them. Then faced a Kentucky team who took about five minutes to figure out that they actually had to try, but once they did try, the game was over.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte mountainred And Jace gets Cornell's 4th title with a very, very late reversal to win 5-4. 4 titles, 8 qualifiers (maybe JAP can get #9), and an eighth team title in a row. FYP because … wow. We had a bunch of titles before this run too. What Koll has done with this program is amazing and it looks to only get better in the next couple of years. Final tally: 4 first, 1 second, 1 thiby mountainred - Other Sports

Dean with a 3-1 win for the title. Probably spent 5-10 minutes on a pair of video reviews. Ugh.by mountainred - Other Sports

Chris Villalonga EIWA Champ! He beats Minotti 4-2. Congrats CV, he's made enormous strides this year and deserves this title (not that the other champs don't).by mountainred - Other Sports

Garett gets American's Terao. Nahshon has two wins this season, one in Vegas (5-0) and one at the Scuffle (7-3). CV gets Lehigh's Minotti. Chris won 3-0 at this year's dual. Palacio faces Joe Booth of Hofstra. Dylan and Joe split a pair of one point decisions this year. Dean will meet Thomas of Penn. Dean won at the dual, but it was 7-5. Bennett gets surprise finalist Cody Reed of Binghby mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte CAS I assume we'll find out in the next few days if Andy Noel cares at all about basketball. Or if the school has a preference regarding eating expensive head coaching contracts. Oh, I'm sure they have a preference there.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte Realbuto loses 11-7. At first I thought this was a big comeback, and an SV loss but I think track wasn't updating. Did Perrotti get a late reversal and backs? Yep. Brian gave up a very late reversal as he was trying to hold on to force OT. I didn't see the swipes for the back points, but he was in an awkward position so it doesn't surprise me. I think Brian was about 5 seconds shortby mountainred - Other Sports

Mark was trailing Dellefave with 30 seconds left when he just overpowered his opponent to his back. Mike locked up a pinning combination off the start. Very gutty wins for both guys. I think that sends Mike to the NCAAs.by mountainred - Other Sports

I have to think the rules would allow Mike to wrestle for 5th, unless he really can't go. Destroyed was, sadly, a pretty accurate description. Mike just has never been right all season.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte mountainred ugarte Even if Nevinger defaults out of the tournament I think he has a pretty good chance at a WC (the conference has 5 bids; if he defaults out, he finishes in 6th; he is a likely WC recipient as a 2 seed and 2 time AA. But I'm not sure if he wrestled enough to qualify. And if he doesn't forfeit, he's got the 1 seed up next which probably sends him to the 5th place matchby mountainred - Other Sports
