ebilmes Greening is doing well in practice, at least: On Monday, during the team's skills competition, rookie Colin Greening also made a surprisingly good showing, setting a new team record in the fastest skater competition and challenging Matt Carkner for the team's hardest shot. Greening, a 24-year-old forward from St. John's, N.L., who made his NHL debut on Feb. 1 and has played three careby amerks127 - Hockey

RatushnyFan Jim HylaThis, to me, is the most amazing of our grads. Remember how many of us talked about him; not believing in his skills. Joined as a free agent, and called up this year. Now, he probably won't stay, but just doing it is great. How I'd like to have him back.I only saw him play a couple of times a year at Cornell, so I didn't weigh in too much, but to me he always looked like a reaby amerks127 - Hockey

Cactus12 Just saw the video- Paille angles in from behind, leads with an elbow to the head, and leaves his feet on a blindside hit on Sawada. This should (and very likely will) be a suspension. I hope Sawada's not concussed. I sometimes complain about players not protecting themselves (esp. along the boards), but this hit was just plain dirty. Even if Sawada's head is up he doesn't see Paillby amerks127 - Hockey

Weder amerks127 I don't think they have the staff either. It's hard enough for them to find writers willing to compose one coherent article a week. The handful of full time staff members aren't going to give up their entire weekends (in college) so they can write printable material and then additional material on the website. Staffing issues can be tough to work around, but that's whereby amerks127 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 1, Final - 13 years ago
Weder amerks127 With fewer pages for articles, the Sports Department opted to spread out coverage instead of shorter stories for more sports. That's ridiculous. If you don't have space in the print edition, that's why you have a website. By Monday, many Cornell sports events are three days old ... and then you're going to hold the story for another day? I don't think they have the staff eitheby amerks127 - Hockey

dag14 Today was a truly noteworthy day in Cornell Daily Sun history. The WOMEN'S hockey team claimed the back page on Monday, rather than the men's hockey team. Wrestling was also featured, rather than basketball. So we are seeing prime coverage of the winning programs, rather than the historically popular programs. I am not sure what this year's sports coverage editorial policy is but lasby amerks127 - Hockey

RichH dbilmes With the success Union and RPI are enjoying this season, wouldn't it be ironic if they both made it to the ECAC semifinals the year the tournament is moved from Albany to Atlantic City. One of the reasons attendance suffered in Albany was that Union and RPI never made it to the ECAC semifinals all of the years the tournament was held in their neighborhood. Killer Jeff Hopkins '82 Rita jkahn Evan Barlow rejoined the Idaho Steelheads on Dec. 31, and has 15 points (6g, 9a) in 13 games. Prior to that he was playing with Valerenga in Norway, where he had 22 points in 27 games and is still the team's 4th leading scorer. Mark McCutcheon, a Steelhead teammate of Barlow last year. also started the season at Valerenga, but after 23 points in 16 games, moby amerks127 - Hockey

Colin Greening scored a goal and got in a fight tonight against Jon Mirasty of the Syracuse Crunch. Mirasty is a real heavy-weight. He had 269 PIM in just 53 games last season. I'll try to post video, but I sure hope Greening held his own.by amerks127 - Hockey

Rita munchkin Cactus12 Just saw this article and had to share it... just terrible. Cornell Alum Michael Kennedy plays on that team. And probably misses the simplicity of our Red and White jerseys, even if the striping is incorrect. Besides Kennedy, the Everblades also have Jared Staal (younger brother of Jordan, Marc, and Eric) and Mike McKenzie (SLU(t) graduate and son of TSN broadcasterby amerks127 - Hockey

RichH ebilmes Riley? Wow. A few observations: Riley didn't even get to say a line in this uh, ad. I bet Michal Jordan must be pretty popular playing in North Carolina. The guy at the end...if he was trying to look a lot like Ricky Gervais, he succeeded. Instead of recording an infomercial, Riley Nash and his team put on a clinic against the Syracuse Crunch last night. They won 10-by amerks127 - Hockey

On a brighter note, Ben Scrivens recorded 33 saves for his first AHL victory tonight, as the Toronto Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-3 in a shootout. Hamilton was also in Rochester on Friday, and Brendon Nash was in his first professional fight.by amerks127 - Hockey

scoop85 tretiak Brain dead response, I regret to say. I caught the last ten minutes of the third and OT. The only brain dead response I saw was Iles not having his stick down on the GWG. I regret to say that a "real deal goalie" makes that save. Scrivens would. Scrivens, as solid as he was, gave up plenty of bad goals too. See, for example, the game at Princeton last season.by amerks127 - Hockey

The November CHA Newsletter provides a handy run-down of where the alumni in the pros are playing, though it still has O'Byrne playing for the "Montreal Canadiennes." (For some reason the list omits Joe Scali- CHL Laerdo Bucks and Blake Gallagher-ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers). Despite giving up five goals, Ben Scrivens won his first start as a pro last Saturday for the Reading Royals of the ECHL. He came on in relief on Sunday and played much better (23/24 in 50:42). Overall his GAA is 3.40 with a SV% .898. Not bad in a league with terrible defense. Brendon Nash also scored his first professional goal last night on the power play.by amerks127 - Hockey

Rita AnneDVM Speaking of Bitz, I just checked the Panthers' site, and it looks like he is on injured reserve (elbow). How long must one stay on the NHL IR list before being activated? Re: Student Season Ticket Information - 13 years ago
CowbellGuy Well, it's a start. I'd like to see B & D added to GA as well. That's the best way to get people to show up on time. It would be hard to police, I suppose, since everyone would just try to cram into B and D, so I guess the reserved seating in those two sections acts as a buffer. Gene told @ebilmes and me that general admission would be a phased-in process. My guess is that thisby amerks127 - Hockey
