Re: Cornell Football Recruits '29 - Yesterday
Shaping up nicely. I assume the staff is still working on bringing in at least 1 QB in the class and probably adding more DBs and WRs.by scoop85 - Other Sports

marty Swampy Do any of you have other suggestions? This topic was covered years ago. Either Age or the moderators had decided that a low bar or no bar was better than a Captcha or whatever. I don't remember why they favored easy access. Human monitoring of new members involves labor perhaps more labor than occasionally erasing the effing spam. jkahn Jeff Malott has signed a two-year contract with the L.A. Kings He's been a good AHL player. I wonder if he has a real shot to make the Kings this year.by scoop85 - Hockey

Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 30 days ago
arugula Trotsky I don't know why Robertson isn't a sure thing for the draft. He has the skills, vision, and presence. There is no downside. In my exchange with Pronman, he said he liked Robertson but that he wasn’t dynamic enough. Whatever that means. I think your exchange was with Wheelerby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: 2024-25 MEN'S SCHEDULE - 30 days ago
BearLover RichH BearLover Trotsky MTU, LSSU, and NMU are also great choices. Wait, why do we want schools who will bring approximately zero fans? More seats for Cornell fans? So now you don’t want to dominate everything? There are already enough seats for all the Cornell fans who want tickets. The difference would be that instead of BU fans, there would be empty seats. Yeah, those schoolsby scoop85 - Hockey

BearLover The NHL draft begins Friday. I am going to give arbitrary odds to the following Cornell players/recruits getting drafted: DiGiulian 50% Robertson 33% Major 15% Arsenault 10% Pirtle 10% Most likely outcome: one Cornellian drafted In Corey Pronman’s 7 round mock draft in the Athletic a few days ago, Major was the only Cornell player selected, as the very last pick in the mock.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 4 weeks ago
Pretty much everyone assumed we’d have a small class coming in, so no surprise there. I didn’t expect DiGiulian to be in this class given how few openings we have on the roster. I expected to see Roest rather than Katz to be in the incoming class, but not shocked it was the other way around.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 5 weeks ago
adamw Swampy I didn't want to start a new thread, but this article probably should be on a thread entitled, "Casey Jones: Cornell Men's Hockey's next coach." No love for my Coach Schafer hagiography? I finally got to read it. Superb work! And the Jones article today was also a delightful read.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Announcement Today, 4:50pm EDT - 6 weeks ago
pfibiger underskill Meh. Casey Jones is underwhelming Totally disagree. He was a great recruiter at Cornell, has done well with a program in a tough spot at Clarkson. I think he can be great. While anything can happen, I agree. It's tough to follow a legend, but Casey's gotten some excellent talent up to Potsdam, and you have to believe he'll have a great opportunity to succeed at Cornell.by scoop85 - Hockey

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - recruit in HS lax championship - 7 weeks ago
djk26 Michael Melkonian, who will join the Cornell lacrosse team this fall, won 19 of 21 faceoffs yesterday as South Side (Rockville Centre) rallied past Yorktown yesterday. South Side trailed 7-2 at halftime and came back to win 10-8. Next up is the Class B New York State high school championship game at Hofstra on Saturday. Opponent will be Victor, Chayse Ierlan's old high school. I know it'by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 7 weeks ago
CAS I would like to see BCHL rookie of the year Chase Pirtle come this year. I know he was drafted in the USHL draft, so perhaps he'll spend a year there before heading to Cornell. I know he's talented, but he may be better off getting top line minutes in juniors than trying to fight for ice time with us.by scoop85 - Hockey

Pghas scoop85 Pghas getting a sense based on what's out there in the metaverse that Gio DeGiulian may be coming next year and not playing juniors at all. We could probably use the scoring if he's ready. That would surprise me given that Seger is our only known loss up front and we already have a few forwards scheduled to arrive in the fall. you could be right, I had from a very good source hby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 7 weeks ago
Pghas posted in the other thread that I am getting a sense Gio Degiulian might come next year. It's either that or one year of juniors. I think BU, Michigan, BC and now Harvard have set themselves up as development grounds for NHL bound or NHL hopefuls. Those schools get all the USNTDP kids and most of them stay for 1-2 years and then are off to sign NHL contracts. Cornell not really lookingby scoop85 - Hockey

ugarte scoop85 Trotsky This is actually a more painful season than most, despite the callouses of age. 6 losses when leading after 8 innings. No other team has more than 2.The Pirates tend to blow their leads in the 7th and 8th. That’s marginally less painfulby scoop85 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Alumni in the pros 23-24 - 2 months ago
Trotsky Thank you, John. I was hoping for Steele or Mosko. I wonder if maybe Steele has left hockey or is injured? Steele still appears on our roster. Given he got no game action at Cornell, he’s probably not yet ready to play at the men’s international level, even for a weaker team like Great Britain.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Baseball 2024 - 2 months ago
djk26 Cornell loses 11-9. I feel bad for these kids (all of them, on both teams) that they have to play another game today, they must be exhausted. Let's hope the bats stay hot for Cornell in the final game later today, because it seems clear that the pitching won't! I know nothing about our pitching staff, but given we had the luxury of a one-game cushion, I hope our pitching is set-up betteby scoop85 - Other Sports

ugarte dag14 Thanks for the explanation. I thought I was losing my mind when the game never appeared this afternoon and the Cornell calendar said the game was on Sunday. I would be curious to know what kind of problem could arise so abruptly that playoff games would need to be postponed.... the tournament has been moved from Columbia to Montclair State As per Cornell Athletics’ website, becaby scoop85 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 2 months ago
Local Motion I think one player for Cornell who deserves mention is freshman Luke Gilmartin #77. I think he was forced into the short-stick defensive midfield position early due to injuries or lack of depth at that position. Regardless "Gilly" really stepped up this season. He's tough, fast, and has a big motor. His father Robert played for Cornell back in the mid-80's. Defensby scoop85 - Other Sports

abmarks BearLover Iceberg BearLover Nice to see Princeton get destroyed in the NCAA tournament. But it will be nice when COVID eligibility goes away and the Ivies can compete with the Marylands of the world again. Did you not see any of the 2022 championship game? Ken711 scoop85 AJ Labeau, a 7-foot center from Idaho who redshirted at Washington State as a freshman preferred walk-on is transferring to Cornell. Out of HS he had D1 offers from Idaho State, Air Force, and Army. Always intriguing to get someone of that size on the roster, and perhaps he blossoms into a good Ivy League player. Certainly having more size up front is useful. Nice to have some siby scoop85 - Other Sports
