margolism Poor Scrivens again. Two losses in his last two starts, while giving up only three goals. And 42 saves on 44 attempts last night, above .950 The whole W-L for a goalie (or a pitcher in baseball) makes no sense. If a goalie gives up two goals or less and saves 90% or more of their shots, the goalie should not be pegged with a loss. Your team's lack of scoring is the reason foby ftyuv - Hockey

KeithK ftyuv KeithK Kyle Rose BMac They changed the rule due to Leggio anyways: Yeah, that will probably put a stop to it, but so would simply awarding a goal. I feel like that's the more appropriate rule change, especially since there's not even a chance of stopping an awarded goal. I think there is a real reluctance to award a goal without strong evidence that th epuck would have gone intby ftyuv - Hockey

Faceoff location (high stick/hand pass): In these cases, the ensuing faceoff will be one zone closer to the offending team’s goal. Does that mean a high stick in your defensive zone turns into a faceoff in the crease?by ftyuv - Hockey

Trotsky Not our alum, but an important guy in Cornell history: the Isles sign Jack Skille. You might remember him from such mind-bendingly painful losses as . No idea what you're talking about. I don't remember that game. That game never happened. (Or, if we're counting minutes, those two games never happened.)by ftyuv - Hockey

Josh '99 Tom Lento Josh '99 Jim Hyla Here they are. I like them, especially the little tweaks toward offense and the warning track.I generally do too, except for:Faceoff Location – Offensive Scoring Opportunity: If the offensive team is attempting to score and the puck goes out of play — the faceoff will remain in the attacking zone. This to me is counterintuitive, and I generally disagree with ruby ftyuv - Hockey

Robb ftyuv I rooted for the Kings a few years ago, because they were the 8-seed that was supposed to get crushed, and Cinderella stories are nice. Now they're just a team with a boring color scheme from a city that doesn't deserve to exist. Go Rangers-by-default!Hey now! I'm fully qualified to make that statement, having spent a whole three days there once at a conference.by ftyuv - Hockey

Murray is getting skewered at a Habs blog that seems fairly prominent (first hit on google for "Montreal Canadiens blog". The blog post itself, and pretty much all of the commenters, hate him. It seems like the tone of the blog is generally over the top anyway, but still.by ftyuv - Hockey

Re: New Rules? - 10 years ago
Kyle Rose ftyuvThe purists might cry fowl on this argument Ba-COCK! After a bunch of thought, you're probably right that I'm making too much of this. As long as the basics of the game are preserved, a minor rule change here or there is probably not that huge a deal. I think mostly what I bristle at are attempts to change the rules to chase a demographic that is currently uninterested in hockeyby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: New Rules? - 10 years ago
RichH billhoward A 1-0 title game might be exciting for purist hockey fans but a steady diet of low-scoring games is not going to move the sport forward if "forward" means attracting lowest common denominator American fans. FYP. If basketball still had 11-6 games, I might be interested in watching more than the last 15 seconds, which can take 20 minutes anyway. That's a straw manby ftyuv - Hockey

Towerroad French Rage To hell with shootouts. Instead, every 5 minutes in OT you add another puck to the ice. Multi-puck! Make it really fun, no offsides, no icing. This is getting ridiculous. I mean, really, how can you leave out the strobe lights?by ftyuv - Hockey
Re: New Rules? - 10 years ago
Trotsky ftyuvMaybe have wording like "if the goalie freezes the puck except as part of making a stop, including freezing a puck which has dropped to the ice immediately following a stop."In general, it's bad to add additional judgment calls to the officials' already large load. But I know what you're getting at, so I'd introduce the following (judgment) language: if the goalie freezeby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: New Rules? - 10 years ago
David Harding ftyuv I'm not completely sold on this, mind you -- I think it could be an interesting experiment. But to answer your last bit directly, I'm not sure I would categorize those as cheap goals. When a goalie is forced to freeze the puck, it's usually because the offense is doing something right (or the defense is doing something wrong). I actually think it's a bit cheap when the offeby ftyuv - Hockey

KeithK ftyuv upprdeck I think they should change the delay rule like the nfl does for icing and extend it to other things.. you ice it no line change, you hold the puck as a goalie no line change, you throw the puck ut of of your end on D no line change, you go offside no line change. reward the team that keeps the game moving, less line changes less delays. I like the idea of extending it, bby ftyuv - Hockey

Rita Jim Hyla This week is the meeting to discuss new rules. Ugh. Why do we have to have a WINNER for each regular season contest? If two teams play to a tie, so be it. Each team gets a point and tries to do better the next time out. I'm ok with the current ECAC 5 min 5v5 OT session. If they do go to some freaking shoot-out system, I hope the college powers that be have better math skills tby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
Honest question here. I didn't get to watch the game, but 7-4 doesn't sound like a game in which either team played a tight, efficient, all-around game worthy of the ages; it sounds like my beer league. So what gives?by ftyuv - Hockey

RatushnyFan Jack Edwards is an acquired taste I guess. I did enjoy listening to him shred Phil Kessel last week though. My favorite moment of his was when some player (I forget who) blocked a slap shot from Chara up close. Edwards started talking about how it's better to block shots close, because they accelerate after they leave the stick. Brickley (the color commentator) said something to thby ftyuv - Hockey

TrotskyNobody's hated the Bruins for their violence since the 70's. Now people hate them for their fans. Yeah, I can't really argue there. Boston fans do kinda suck, on balance. I don't mind the homerism or stupidity (show me a large fan base that doesn't have those elements), but the fair-weatherness gets to me.by ftyuv - Hockey
