Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 2 days ago
Actually Gilmartin against Penn leveled a guy that knocked the ball out and set up a quick score by Cornell. Cornell has some exciting rising sophomores going into next season. Cornell has the fire power, but all I am saying is our defense needs to be more physical. Even though Cornell had a great season, we lost the overall season turnover battle 202 to 215. In comparison, Penn dominated tby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 3 days ago
Luke Gilmartin scored two goals vs. Penn in the Ivy Tournament. In high school last year he scored 58 goals and 23 assists which are more like attack numbers. I am thinking Cornell may promote Gilly to first team midfield next year rather than SSDM given his ability to play offense too. He is also a very good golfer according to his bio. On the defensive side Cornell needs to recruit somby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 3 days ago
I think one player for Cornell who deserves mention is freshman Luke Gilmartin #77. I think he was forced into the short-stick defensive midfield position early due to injuries or lack of depth at that position. Regardless "Gilly" really stepped up this season. He's tough, fast, and has a big motor. His father Robert played for Cornell back in the mid-80's. Defensive mid-fieldby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: President Pollack resigning - 8 days ago
President Pollack was a very good administrator and despite the criticisms regarding the Israel - Hamas uprising I thought she handled it very well. On the other hand, as President she was not a great leader and was rarely seen on campus or among alumni. Many insiders said she ran her administration from her laptop and was not exactly a "people person" like Frank Rhodes or Hunter Raby Local Motion - Other Sports

Agreed Teagle Hall is an old building and there might be some issues renovating the pool facility. Glad the team can use the Ithaca College Kelsey Partridge pool which is nearly brand new (2011 opening) and has a full length 50 meter pool. We all lifted in Teagle when I was at Cornell and it was an old facility 30 plus years ago. Getting back to Schoellkopf Field.............the stadiumby Local Motion - Other Sports

Speaking of Cornell football...............I spoke with some players during the Cornell vs. Penn lax game on Friday evening and they seemed super excited about the new Coach Dan Swanstrom. Did any posters watch the spring game this past weekend and any take away regarding the team, new offense, defense, etc.?by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field needs to be upgraded to Ivy standards. - 11 days ago
Obviously Trotsky does not like athletics. Given all the campus unrest with the middle east issues, the lacrosse game on Friday evening was a nice way for students and alumni to enjoy a fun evening together. I think we can all agree we attended Cornell for the academics first and other amenities like athletics second. However, athletics promotes a healthy lifestyle and teamwork that you simby Local Motion - Other Sports

By the way..............just to add some of the Penn players on Friday evening had to pee in the woods at halftime. Really?????by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field needs to be upgraded to Ivy standards. - 12 days ago
Cornell could easily add a 3,000 square foot multi-purpose locker-room and 1,500 seats with a retractable water proof awning with eight flag poles on the west side for $5MM or less. This is Ithaca NY where the cost of construction for Upstate NY in general averages about $300 to $500 per square foot. Worst case $1.5MM for the locker rooms and another $1.5MM for the grandstands, tops. I have aby Local Motion - Other Sports

It's been a fun year to follow Big Red athletics. Despite the loss to Penn this past Friday evening in the ILT, it was a nice crowd and beautiful evening for college lacrosse. One thing I noticed at halftime is the Penn lacrosse team used the south end-zone for their team meeting, which was not a good reflection on Cornell. I love ESPN + and ESPNU as it allows fans to follow their favorite Ivby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Men's lax: CU-Notre Dame Sunday 4/14/24 - 4 weeks ago
Despite the loss, it was a both a great college lax game and venue at Bethpage Stadium. Given the concentration of Cornell alumni in the NY Metro area along with two NYC campuses, it's like a home game for the Big Red. In terms of the game, the non-call on the push from behind was ridiculous and even the play-by-play guy was surprised the refs didn't call it. Oh well.............too late nowby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: Cornell vs Princeton 3/17/24 - 2 months ago
Unbelievable matchup yesterday and our defense stepped up winning the game. Congrats to the team and coaches for coming back after a tough loss to Penn State. Come out to Schoellkopf Field this coming Saturday. Go Big Red!by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: Cornell vs Penn State 3/9/24 - 2 months ago
It's already been posted on the Ivy board the lack of physicality by the Cornell defense, which has been an issue for the Big Red. For example I am currently watching the John Hopkins and Syracuse game and both teams are very physical. There is a reason why they wear helmets and shoulder pads.by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Ohio State @ Cornell - 2 months ago
Attendance is always light for early lacrosse games at Cornell. Saturday was either raining or misty, along with damp cold. However, if the sunshine comes out above say 50 degrees the East Hill community comes out to support the lacrosse team. I wish Cornell had more home games in April & May when the weather improves. On another note, the Cornell Daily Sun appears to be very focuseby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: New athletic director Nicki Moore - 2 months ago
So far I have been very impressed by Nicki Moore and she has a bright future on the East Hill. The Cornell AD position is a great job at a major university without the overwhelming pressure of a Power 5 Conference. Ithaca is a beautiful college town and nice for families, so we hope she is enjoying her job at Cornell. Go Big Red!by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: @Denver 2/24 - 2 months ago
Tough loss for Cornell vs. Denver, but the Big Red took their frustrations out on Hobart yesterday winning by a whopping 23-7. I think we can all agree Cornell lacrosse probably has one of the toughest schedules this season, but that's what it takes to eventually land in the Final Four or win a national championship. Regardless it's going to be a fun lacrosse season on the East Hill and comeby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Cornell's Sprint Football HC stepping down - 3 months ago
Why are do so many Cornellians turn their nose up to Sprint Football? I don't see posters being critical of wrestling at Cornell that has multiple weight classifications. Cornell Lightweight crew has been a strong program for many years. Don't get me wrong I love football at all levels, but having 300 lb. linemen is not exactly healthy either. We have a close family friend who was a firstby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 3 months ago
Congrats to Big Red lacrosse winning in not exactly spring sport weather. The freshman William Firth #51 was impressive with 4 goals in his first college game. My one concern is our defense physical enough to hold up in this very tough schedule? Go Big Red!by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 3 months ago
Who needs an indoor practice facility other than this recent snow storm (not even a big storm) both NYC and Ithaca have enjoyed a very mild winter. By the way, since I was a kid, Upstate has always been anywhere north of Yankee Stadium, although in reality it's probably the Tappan Zee Bridge (now the Mario Cuomo Bridge) on Route 87.by Local Motion - Other Sports

I watched the Cornell vs, Yale ESPN highlights as it was a great game with a big crowd. The home and home series returns to Ithaca on Friday, February 23rd. Go Big Red!!!by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 4 months ago
Wow the new Baylor (Foster Pavilion) is beautiful and very cool Cornell was the first to play them in grand opening game. Even Bill Gates was in attendance, although I am not sure of his affiliation with Baylor. Cornell played well in a lot of areas, but agreed we could not sink shots from the Arc (3 pointers) and there were a bunch of missed foul shots. Re: Cornell football 2023 - 4 months ago
I disagree as football has always been a physical and dangerous game but a lot of fun too. One of my fraternity brothers at Cornell was ROTC and after graduation was an Navy fighter pilot who served in both gulf wars. Very dangerous duty flying off an aircraft carrier and doing missions over both Iraq and Afghanistan. He loved flying in the Navy, but that job was probably far more dangerousby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Dan Swanstrom new Cornell head football coach - 5 months ago
I think the indoor practice really benefits men's and women's lacrosse more than football and soccer. Football and soccer is during the summer and fall seasons when the weather is actually nice in Ithaca. Those two programs may use the indoor facility in November, but most of the team's conditioning during the off season is in the weight room or simply running, skipping rope etc. I am sureby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Dan Swanstrom new Cornell head football coach - 5 months ago
I think Dan Swanstrom is an awesome hire and this guy has won everywhere he has coached. Like I have said many times, he may be a great hire and we are lucky to have Swanstrom on the East Hill, but the Cornell admin has to be willing to support the football program or he will be another 3 and out. One of the highlights of this hire is Dan Swanstrom was the head coach at Division III powerhousby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 5 months ago
Cornell played very well vs. Syracuse last evening. We just could not sink the three pointers when we needed them. However I would not call Syracuse a "dumb team" as they are a great Upstate NY rival. I would love to see Brian Earl pull out the win at the Dome sometime and I think we could have won with a few key three pointers. Go Big Red!!!by Local Motion - Other Sports

The comment is noted..............but the post is directed toward farmers and agriculture in general. A very ignorant statement.by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: New Cornell football coach search - 5 months ago
The request was "can we use the ag school to bring in hayseed lunkheads to major in farming" when the school is a world-class agricultural research center developing important practical applications. As someone who grew up in agriculture and attended CALS, I take huge offense to your comment regarding "Hayseed lunkheads to major in farming". That is such an ignorant stateby Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: New Cornell football coach search - 5 months ago
I agree and probably wishful thinking. Although I don't think we need a DIII coach that requires on the job training. We need an experienced head coach who can recruit and develop a winning program.by Local Motion - Other Sports
Re: New Cornell football coach search. - 5 months ago
While I have no idea regarding the search group looking for a new head football coach, I know former Big Red QB and NFL coach Bill Lazor has been mentioned dating back to the early 2000's. At age 51 and a very impressive coaching resume I hope Cornell has him on their radar. He's young enough to be around for the next 15 years and he obviously knows how to coach QB's and direct the offense atby Local Motion - Other Sports
