Al DeFlorio George64 Finally, some good news! Will Professor Steve Strogatz do for math what Carl Sagan did for science? Can't access the Times, but Strogatz co-authored a brilliant piece of instructional software for differential equations that was sold by Addison-Wesley back in the 90s.Was that "IDE"? They all always have that anyway. Nobody in D1 is dogging it based on their draft status. They need to prove to coach they deserve premium minutes, to their draft team they are developing, and they'd never have reached this level without the neurotic thirst to achieve it takes decades of therapy to unkink.by Trotsky - Hockey

Al DeFlorio billhoward NY Times article says Syracuse, riding a record wave of Class of 2029 applicants, may have been too stingy doling out financial aid. Too many admits chose elsewhere. And then Syracuse had to offer generous discounts post-May 1 to get desired candidates to decommit elsewhere. Not surprisingly, nobody at Syracuse is available for comment. I don't see a good argument against this rule so far. The idea of the timeout is NHL teams can't throttle players' careers by holding their rights indefinitely. If the player develops sufficiently he should move up and into the pro system. If they can't come to terms, the player becomes a UFA and can shop himself to the whole league. The rules are there to protect the drafting team but alsoby Trotsky - Hockey

Re: Amateur athletic's last veil falls - 24 days ago
Why does a school put money into a sport? One theoretical reason is for the good of the social and intellectual development of the student. I'll pause for the laughter to subside. Andy White has been dead 106.5 years. Schools anticipate a ROI on every dollar. In some (most?) cases they are investing in a storefront to make back revenue directly generated by gate, merch, rights & assortby Trotsky - Hockey

ERI personally don’t think it’s worth it to travel to NYC thanksgiving day weekend just to see a regular season hockey game, but that’s just meIt's only worth it if you're from the city or the island. But if you're from the city or the island you're an asshole* anyway so F.U. * I am from the island, which supports this theory.by Trotsky - Hockey

TroyfanOn a darker note, if that is possible: "But some schools are increasing costs to fans through “talent fees,” concession price hikes and “athletic fees” added to tuition costs." I think that is a lighter note. May the NC$$ self-immolate by nakedly chasing $$$, turning to pass that onto fans, and having the fans take a hike. Pghas So a bit off topic but of definite interest here. My son is a prep school player and we recently attended this big D1 showcase in Florida - they time it to be held just after the NCAA coaches annual conference and so literally there are either head coaches or assistant coaches from every hockey east and ECAC school there. Competition is pretty amazing. Anyway they have a conference portiby Trotsky - Hockey
