Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - Yesterday
mountainred Mr. Niss rss77 As pointed out in one of the Virginia papers he has access to scholarships and graduate transfers. So does every other non-Ivy school though. I wish Earl the best, but I don't get this move. The CAA is a step down conference-wise and W&M makes Cornell look like a basketball school. I wonder if Kevin App's name resurfaces. He's had success at Willliams. Iby Swampy - Other Sports

abmarks Jeff Hopkins '82 upprdeck We didn't need to win the conf title to get in with PWR if we don't blow any one of about 6 other games, ^^This^^ nope. it's the other way around. let's get cause and effect in proper order. Which is to say that bearlover's good takes arrive highly correlated with full eclipses. I actually agree with him. -cause: We punted 6 games. -Effect: thereforby Swampy - Hockey

Iceberg I find it crazy that the committee or whoever is responsible couldn't find another site in the midwestern US. There has to be a ton of better arenas willing to do this event at a tolerable cost. I think it has to do with who the host(s) is (are). In this case, the Midwest Regional is hosted by Lindenwood University and the St. Louis Sports Commission. What's even more surprising is tby Swampy - Hockey

Beeeej JasonN95 chimpfood Schafer quoted in the CHN article as saying “Im on the back 9 here.” Although it really isn’t a shock, it is sad to hear him say with the guy having been coach as long as I can remember. If I had to guess I would say he goes when these 10 freshman graduate. I was thinking the same thing: He must be excited to see what this freshman class can do over the next three yearby Swampy - Hockey
Re: ECAC Semifinal - Dartmouth - 6 days ago
arugula And we’re 13 in the pwr… The problem is that if we lose, I don't think the ECAC is a three-bid league this year no matter what the pwr says.by Swampy - Hockey

billhoward (I'm hoping Congresswoman Stefanik stays in that position and develops enough additional clout to bring wired internet and electricity along our road 15 miles outside LP that has it at both ends, but not the 250 yards in the middle. Yeah, we've got solar and we've got a backup generator, but there's nothing like grid power if you want to add a heat pump. You especially want electric ifby Swampy - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 8 days ago
billhoward St. Lawrence definitely helps attendance in Lake Placid. Clarkson a bit more. Clarkson 3700 students St. Lawrence 2200 students The best possible ECAC-in-Placid turnout would be Cornell, Clarkson, St. Lawrence and, um, pick one, maybe RPI. It is about 80 miles from Clarkson (+5 for St Lawrence) to Lake Placid but it is dark (well, yeah), twisty road that is not well-stripby Swampy - Hockey

upprdeck Would he get 250K is the question? What number is worth the move in non guaranteed money? 50K 100K 200k 500k Depends on what he intends to do with his Harvard degree. If he intends to play pro basketball or take over his uncle's chain of car dealerships, he should probably switch. If he intends to go to law school, maybe stay. If he intends to be a poet or a high-school teacher,by Swampy - Other Sports

dbilmes Stonehill is only in its second year as a DI program. At one point this season, both of their goalies were injured and a defenseman had to play goal. I like our chances.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: New athletic director Nicki Moore - 23 days ago
Trotsky Huggy bear was garbage. It's not our bear; it's an inconsequential marketing gimmick from a period that was singularly soulless. This is our bear: When I started Cornell in 1964, I brought a bear sweatshirt home for my younger brother, who was nine. He really liked the bear, as I think most kids would. So, there's lots to be said for animalistic insignia. OTOH, my brother woby Swampy - Other Sports

George64 osorojo I was hoping for a cogent explanation (or excuse) for current Cornell Men's hockey pitiful record against opponents ranked 20th best - or worse! I only mentioned past Cornell Ice Hockey glory because I still cherish memories of the Lou Mobbs and Paul Patton and Ned Harkness days. Of course, I remember Paul Patton and Ned Harkness, but Lou Mobbs was only a vague memory, so I seaby Swampy - Hockey

BearLover chimpfood Nothing against sever or student athletes in general, I know how hard it is to balance sports and school, but it’s kinda funny that a 3.5 gpa wins scholar athlete of the year for the whole league. 3.5 in Engineering is like a 3.8 in another school though I think. IIRC, the GPA of my graduating class in Engineering in the late 1960s was 2.7.by Swampy - Hockey

upprdeck it would be nice if Athletics actually said thats its a pay link on the schedule page. if you just take a quick look you woudnt know and some may jump in sat expecting to watch and not pay the $9. sah67 Jacob MacDonald was profiled by a San Jose fan site as a model for the future of "position-less hockey" due to his versatility in shifting back and forth between forward and defenseman, even during a single game. Lots of good quotes from his coach (David Quinn) on that role as well: The subsequent waiving of JMD aside, it seems to me that, against Yale and Brown, Robinson wasby Swampy - Hockey

mike1960 upprdeck mike1960 Mr. Niss seems nuts to me that on Friday at 7 the U will have Toledo vs Bowling Green and not Cornell-Yale, but who am I other than a Big Red homer (but not from Homer). Trotsky I'm glad he extricated himself. That was and maybe still is a toxic program. Does Director of Hockey Operations indicate he has decided to move from behind the bench to go in the Athletic Director direction? Reading his goodbye message, he's silent about anything pushing him away from Michigan and identifies the attraction of family ties in Chicago as the cause of his leaving. Heby Swampy - Hockey

adamw The Rancor Trotsky Kariya would have just played somewhere else. I always wondered who else recruited him. He did come out of BC when the McCutcheon pipeline was at its peak. nshapiro Iceberg Dafatone I'm kinda stuck here, because on one hand I tend to be relatively optimistic, but on the other hand I somehow hate Dartmouth more than Harvard. I always found the games against Dartmouth to be contentious affairs and often more exciting that the games against Harvard the night before or after. Re: Home Ice - 2 months ago
George64 David Harding The NCAA rule book does not have any objective criteria. The cynic that I am, leads me to believe that rink operators may adjust the ice quality to offset the skating characteristics of the visiting team. In baseball, the infield grass is cut to favor the home team, if you bunt a lot, keep it long. From "The Poison Ivy in the Ivy League," Sports Illustrateby Swampy - Hockey

marty BearLover chimpfood The announcers have been repeating the same exact thing for about 5 minutes now. They spent way too much time talking about the PWR. Though, it was refreshing to hear a focus on the PWR rather than the conference standings. billhoward David Harding One step at a time. Ithaca Planning Board has some suggestions. Ithaca Voice The board had some suggestions. CU2007 Chris '03 Big Dingus lol at the haters on the student section. Feels like at this point you guys enjoy when it’s empty Mainly BearLover of course It is what it is. I think the point is that people are going to push back when you come on here and declare how full it is but the broadcast shows huge empty sections. We'd all love to see a full student section night in and night out. Bby Swampy - Hockey

scoop85 In my listing I forgot to include our new recruit, forward Parker Murray. In 17 games with Penticton and Chilliwack of the BCHL he has 4 G, 6 A. And today we got a commitment from Michael Dec, a forward from St. Andrews College who turns 17 in a couple of weeks. In 28 games Dec has 11 G, 12 A. Hopefully he goes on a growth spurt, as Elite Prospects lists him as 5’7” and only 134 lbs.by Swampy - Hockey
