In this opinion column in the BU student newspaper, the writer laments the lack of support from the student body for the school's hockey program. "The support the team receives from the student body and BU community does not meet the expectations one would expect from such a high-caliber program."by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell Baseball 2024 - 4 days ago
Cornell rallied from an 8-0 deficit to win Game 1 against Yale 10-9 in 10 innings on Saturday and went on to sweep the doubleheader. Cornell is 10-4 in the Ivies, only one game behind first-place Columbia. Cornell plays Yale again today and hosts Columbia for a three-game series next weekend. No one else is over .500 in the Ivy League.by dbilmes - Other Sports

billhoward Us also. Let's see the W-L stats comes spring 2025 in football, basketball, women's basketball, etcetera. To be fair, you have to give coaches more than just one year. Both basketball coaches, for example, were hired late in the recruiting/portal process. Earl, for example, didn't start having winning seasons right away.by dbilmes - Other Sports

You have to give Denver credit for winning three straight 2-1 games, two in OT, especially since until the NCAAs began they hadn't won a game all season when they scored less than three goals.by dbilmes - Hockey

Interesting to note how long the search for the new women's basketball coach is taking compared to how quickly most of the other coaching vacancies have been filled.by dbilmes - Other Sports

I wouldn't label Harvard as a bad team. Its two Ivy losses are to Yale (on the road) and Princeton. They beat Michigan in Ann Arbor and just lost a close game to Virginia on the road. I saw them play at Yale last month and they have an explosive offense. Based upon our poor defense this season, they could beat us in another high-scoring game.by dbilmes - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio dbilmes Kudos to the Daily Orange, which actually had three stories about the game filed on deadline. This one has a lot of quotes from Long, Another story notes that two years ago, the last time the teams played, Knust also came off the bench to help Cornell pull out a come-from-behind win in OT. The third story is a notebook on the game, noting, among other things, that Cornell isby dbilmes - Other Sports

Syracuse offensive coordinator just got kicked out of game. Cornell, trailing 7-2 after one period, will have two-man up for nearly a minute and then one-man up for another two minutes.by dbilmes - Other Sports

Jeff Hopkins '82 ER Great game but the piped on music is awful. Are we at a baseball stadium? Michigan has the best band. Where are they? Springfield was just as bad. Someone needs to tell these AHL rinks that we want to hear the band(s), not their piped in noise. It was terrible at Springfield, especially when Maine played Cornell and both teams had their pep bands there. Part of what is suppby dbilmes - Hockey

Give My Regards Trotsky This is the day Our life will surely change This is the day When things fall into place Today is my birthday. Not that anyone should care, except that... the only other time Cornell has ever played a game on my birthday was... ... the 2003 quarterfinal win over BC. We all care! Happy Birthday and let's hope history repeats itself.by dbilmes - Hockey

Some nasty stuff going on in BC game, with a nasty hit to the head by a Tech player on a BC player, followed by the closest you'll see to a fight in college hockey. BC ahead 5-1 midway through the third period.by dbilmes - Hockey

Kudos to eLynah listserv member and Sun sports editor Jane McNally for the special NCAA tournament preview section they published earlier this week. The section included a nice feature on Seeger, who talks about why he came to the States and about being an Engineering student, and another article about the play of Cornell's defensemen. Many of us have been critical of the Sun's lackluster sportsby dbilmes - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Greenberg '97 dbilmes The arena website says the parking garage is closed due to construction, so I'm sure parking is going to be fun. Everything I'm reading online says you can park for free at the MGM Springfield, which is an 8 minute walk from the arena. I make no promises, but this is the approach I plan on taking. some pages say parking is free for guests. Others sayby dbilmes - Hockey

arugula Any thoughts about tickets? Goi g through the venue-the seating chart is offering g hardly anything and every time I check, the sections change. The Cornell link requires buying both games. I can’t make Saturday. Any idea what’s going on with the venue?or if the package requirement will go away? I just recall regionals in Albany which were empty so kinda surprised. Re: NCAA regionals in Springfield - 4 weeks ago
I just bought tickets in Section 2 in the upper level. They're not great seats, but hopefully after the first game most of the UMass fans will leave, especially if their team loses, and we'll be able to move down to better seats. The arena website says the parking garage is closed due to construction, so I'm sure parking is going to be fun.by dbilmes - Hockey
NCAA regionals in Springfield - 4 weeks ago
I thought I'd start a separate thread for this. Since a lot of us will be looking to buy tickets, hopefully people will share information as it becomes available. If I recall correctly from past years, the official tickets being sold by Cornell might be for both the Thursday and Saturday games. Hopefully, it won't be too difficult to just buy tickets for the Thursday games.by dbilmes - Hockey

BearLover When asked in the postgame interview what the message was coming out for the third, Walsh said that they “were just doing it for a lot of the guys leaving, especially the younger guys.” Huh? I took it to mean he meant the younger players were especially trying to win this for the older players. If he had a chance to answer again, he would probably give a more coherent answer.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 4 weeks ago
One thing about St. Lawrence is they have a ton of seniors on their squad. I was at Appleton for Senior Night and there were about a dozen seniors being honored before the game. That experience has to be a plus in the postseason.by dbilmes - Hockey

billhoward Let's see how long #13 Yale holds on versus #4 Auburn, Friday, 4:15 pm. Consider this understatement insight: Fox61 TV Yale Men’s Basketball travels to Spokane to face the No. 4 seed Auburn in the Round of 64 Down six with 22 seconds left, Yale beat the odds and the buzzer against Brown to win the Ivy League, but the Bulldogs face steeper competition against Auburn.
