CU77 Rutgers goalie Colin Krist was terrific against Penn. He is the brother of Cornell attackman CJ Krist. Both goalies were standing on their heads in that game. But Crist was astounding.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Other Sports

billhoward Weder billhoward April story on Matt Moulson, out of the lineup since December with Hershey Bears of the AHL. Moulson has been pretty healthy most of his pro career. He turns 39 this fall. Moulson is one of the handful of not-yet-retireds from the 2003 draft (Patrice Bergeron, Zach Parise, Joe Pavelski, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ithaca's Dustin Brown). Robb CU77 On to the quarterfinals! Massey gives Cornell a 63% probability of beating Delaware, vs what would have been 30% against Georgetown. Reminds me of 2010, when Cornell was the #7 seed. Needed triple OT to beat Loyola in the first round, and was set to go against #2 Cuse (who had beaten Cornell 8-7 at Schoellkopf in the regular season), but Cuse was upset by Army in OT. upprdeck most of these buildings are fairly tall.. you could, in theory, add something later that was higher up, protected by netting and had some seating. then people could watch but be out of the way of the players and the balls I went to a hockey rink in Korea that was kinda like that.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Other Sports

Trotsky Swampy Trotsky This would be interesting to do for all the NC$$ teams (or at least the ECAC). Some guesses (IMO) Cornell: 1. Harvard 2. Clarkson 3. Quinnipiac Harvard: 1. Yale 2. Cornell 3. Princeton Clarkson: 1. SLU 2. Cornell 3. RPI No BU for Cornell? Or, is this only in-league or frequent opponent? I would not say BU is a factor over the range of all fans anymoby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Ken711 George64 Here’s an excerpt from a Rochester D&C article about college football coaches on the hot seat — David Shaw, Stanford: Here are the cold facts about Shaw. He is a good coach, the winningest in the program’s history. . . Last year’s team failed miserably in areas that used to be strengths: running the ball and stopping the run. The Cardinal were among the worst in the nationby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio upprdeck going into the game Princ was #2 in rpi so the win helped Harv/BU lost so that helped. I think Its 100% we are in with a win and almost 100% with a loss. brown/cornell/prin/yale are all in.. what do they do with Penn who has a crazy high rpi and didnt make the IVY tourney and Harvard probably falls out even if they have a top 15 RPI Contrary to some of the scenariby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Other Sports

George64 Scersk '97One of my many concerns regarding the Roosevelt Island project is whether it will cause a brain drain in science and engineering from the Ithaca campus to the great detriment of the University. Frankly, a Cornell without engineers rubbing shoulders with hotelies, architects (even the misled ones), etc., etc. is not Cornell. To the contrary, Cornell is making a huge capital iby Jeff Hopkins '82 - John Spencer Is Dead

ACM Chris '03 Trotsky It will be a few years and anything can happen, but he may be our highest-rated incoming F since Riley Nash. I just hope he gets here in time for Grady and Jason to have to say variations on "Pirtle from Ertel." Sounds like something from Dr. Seuss. The Teenage Mutant Ninjas? The Yertle Line.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Expansion - 7 weeks ago
billhoward David Harding Plans are moving forward to double the size of Thurston Hall. Bleep! Evenings and weekends, it was a good place to find parking behind Thurston and the gorge. Parking for alumni versus learning space for students seems like a close call to me. From what I can see in the article, the parking is intact. It's the engineering quad that's getting chewed up.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: An even ice rink - 2 months ago
osorojo To even things up how about the high-altitude team has to walk on their skates (with no skate guards) over 30 yards of concrete sidewalk before the game - and not sharpen their skates afterward? That should level-up the playing field (ice). Make them use figure skates.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

billhoward Scersk '97Quinnipiac, in all facets of its expanded form, is the natural result of the student-as-consumer model of education. Coming soon to a campus near you! As the president of Enterprise Rental said of his academic background and wanting branch managers like him: I want to hire hungry people. I want the people who made possible the upper half of the graduating class. Translationby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: Lake Placid roll call - 2 months ago
billhoward upprdeck as many of the ivy kids apply to several of the schools its not really selective anyway.. if 50K apply to the same 5 schools and they all take 10K it looks like each school only accepts 20% of applicants.. but is that really reflective of what happened. Sometimes when I think about admissions rates, selectivity, and yields, I'm never sure if cause and effect get confused.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

In '79, there was a lottery for the few on-campus rooms available to non-freshmen. If your number came up, you could pick your room and pull in any friends to fill the beds. But most people had to look for housing elsewhere. It's why there were so many fraternities.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward BearLoverTrue, but in hockey the puck is turned over or up for grabs every 30 seconds or so, and there are about four goals per game. Sometimes there are 4 goals in 6 minutes. 12/4/2021, Potsdam Cornell 1 1 2 0 0 -- 4 Clarkson 0 0 4 0 0 -- 4 Clarkson, third period 14:43 17:07 18:27 19:58.8 That's another game that didn't happen.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Other Sports

CU77 billhoward The ultimate rule change may yet be: Other team gets the ball after a goal. It has been proposed, not sure how seriously. It was tried one year in the late 70s. I hope never to see it again. It was '79, My freshman year. I vividly remember "1...2...3...4! We want more...faceoffs!" And I agree. Don't eliminate the faceoff.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - polls 3/7 Cornell 4th - 2 months ago
billhoward mike1960So, so close . . . I noticed at the end of a close game this year, as time ran out, our middie at midfield threw the ball up-up-up with :03 left and the ball had a hangtime of :05. So, close 2009 was. That and not closing out Wisconsin (hockey), 5-2 lead start of the third, got tied, lost OT. I'm sure older alums recall 1969 title game and just coming up short to Denver. mike1960 billhoward Jeff Hopkins '82My experience is that our guys don't have much nice to say about him, either. I was sitting near a bunch of team alumni at the Final Four in Foxboro. mike1960 arugula Interesting that Quint, who I think usually has us higher than the poll, has us at 8 this week after 7 last week. So two good wins and he dropped us?
