Re: Cornell football 2017 - Homecoming 10/21 - 6 years ago
Of interest... Officially sanctioned by the NCAA, Jeopardy! and Trivial Pursuit as the originator of homecoming, the University of Missouri is proud of their long-standing homecoming tradition. It was there in 1911 where Mizzou's Athletic Director Chester Brewer asked alumni of the school to help inaugurate the new location of their football field by "coming home" to attend the aby mgl11 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell basketball coaching search - 8 years ago
that's bs...say what you will about his ability to win w/o those top 3 guys, but his teams always featured a two-guard, motion offense with a wing playing up high. To the extent that it is probably too predictable, SD loves attacking the lane, swinging a good passing 5 up to the top of the key, and setting up stand-still 3s. The knock on him is far less that he doesn't have a system and much moreby mgl11 - Other Sports

Don’t forget about how much of the recent revenue growth is due to the strengthening of the Canadian Dollar. Every Canadian team's revenue could be up 16-17% over the past year simply because the loonie is that much stronger.by mgl11 - Hockey

Re: Cornell/BU Thanksgiving (11/24) Ticket Info - 16 years ago
The story from the MSG box office is the same. I went last week and was told that the Cornell seats in the 100 level were gone. It was not, however, a problem to get seats in the 200 level a row or two behind the Cornell section.by mgl11 - Hockey

...and he's back in the ECHL. after making the most of his first 3 games, he sure blew the last 2. i wonder how this affects his standing in the Ducks organization? I don't think that it does. Portland is not making the playoffs, but Augusta is playing Charlotte in the 1st round of the ECHL playoffs right now. McKee took the loss (2-1) in the 1st game of the seriesby mgl11 - Hockey

Re: Ivy League considering post-season tourney? - 17 years ago
Yes, the ivies can play in the NIT. In '02, when Yale, Princeton, and Penn tied for the Ivy title both Yale and Princeton got invites to the NIT. Yale actually won in the opening round. The chance of an ivy team making the field decrease a little bit this year, as the NIT field shrunk from 40 to 32 teams. On the other hand, ESPN no longer gets to pick the teams in the tournament (as they handby mgl11 - Other Sports

Pegoraro is in AHL camp with Hamilton...and picked up the 2nd star (1g and 1a) in tonight's preseason game. Don't know if he'll stick with Hamilton or get sent to Cincinnati, but if he stays it would probably mean three Cornell guys with the Bulldogs.by mgl11 - Hockey

and 4 time pro-bowler Matt Birk? Or Cornell alum Seth Payne? There are probably 20 - 25 players from the Ivy league in the NFL...it's not that much of a rarity. The NBA, that's a totally different story.by mgl11 - Other Sports

Re: McKee signs with Anaheim - 18 years ago
I could be wrong on this -- but I believe that free agent signees (who are signed after a certain date - perhaps the trade deadline) must remain with the parent club for the rest of the season. I don't think this applies to players actually drafted by the club. For some reason, I think this applied to Peter Sejna a few years back.by mgl11 - Hockey
Re: McKee signs with Anaheim - 18 years ago
Congrats to Dave -- seems like it's a good organization for hime to sign with... Hurme isn't really a prospect -- he's 31. Kochan is in the same boat, he's also 31 and he's on a contract with the Pirates not with the Ducks. I also doubt the project Marsters as an NHL starter -- though I remember him being really solid when I saw him at RPI (in the 00-01 and 01-02 seasons). The top goalie prby mgl11 - Hockey

Re: Johnson Stays At Michigan - 18 years ago
The contracts are also way more complicated than just the NHL salary numbers...for most players the entry level NHL contract is a two way contract which pays one salary at the NHL level and another salary at the minor league level (less common would be a one way contract which still pays the player the NHL $$s while in the minors or a three way contract which would split out salary levels for theby mgl11 - Hockey

Re: USA Hockey National Championships - 18 years ago
As far as I understand it... In the US...the only tier I league is the USHL. Other leagues like the NAHL, EJHL, etc. are considered tier II (also known as junior a, b, or c). Generally, tier I is considered to be a higher level of talent. That said, there is plenty of very good hockey at the tier II level (and many NCAA DI and beyond level talents). As well, I believe that tier I leagues alsoby mgl11 - Other Sports

Underhill is on a two-way contract w/ Peoria of the AHL -- but he's not on their clear day roster...so he'll almost certainly be in Alaska the rest of the way. For that matter, Bâby was left off the clear day roster in Chicago. He's been out for about a month with an injury -- concussion I think. Not that the Wolves are making the playoffs.by mgl11 - Hockey
