Re: Postseason honors - 2 years ago
In the ECAC post about about Malinski being nominated for the best defensive defenseman, it said he "was also near the top of the lineup in minutes." I've never seem this stat for Cornell. Anyone know it it's available anywhere?by rstott - Hockey
Re: Florida College Classic - 7 years ago
The team hates Florida. I was sitting next to the parent of a player at one of the games. The parent said that when the son was a freshman he expressed enthusiasm about going to Florida in December and the seniors were “well, not exactly.” They all know that have never play well in Estero. They have to leave on the 26th, practice on the 27th and play the next day. They just want to get backby rstott - Hockey

Re: Frozen Four - 15 years ago
It was interesting to see what nonparticipating school had the most fans based on jerseys. Minnesota seemed to be on top. A lot of North Dakota – they will definitely send a good contingent to Lynah. Also a solid representation from New Hampshire and Maine. (The Maine contingent surprised me after their generally feeble showing at Estero over the years.) A number from Wisconsin, Michigan, Mby rstott - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1 @ SLU(t) 7, 3rd Period - 15 years ago
ithacatFor all you history buffs, has a good team ever been beaten this badly? Someone has to be able to put this in perspective. 1973 -- BU 9-CU 0, Clarkson 10-CU 1. Cornell went 23-5-1, won the ECAC and lose to Wisconsin 6-5 in the NCAA semis.by rstott - Hockey
Re: Sat Games - 16 years ago
Harvard put 32 shots on goal (27 saves, 5 goals allowed) against Cornell's John Detwiler in Harvard's 13-0 victory in February 1959. Arthur Mintz’s still useful Cornell Hockey Record Book lists the Cornell record for SOG is 80 against Colgate in January 1971 and Loyola in 1973. (Cornell 8 -- Colgate 2, Cornell 13 -- Loyola 5). There are no period records but they surely must have exceeded 30by rstott - Hockey
Re: Cornell-RIT postgame - 16 years ago
Same problem as last year -- special teams. In 2006-7 we were the best team in the ECAC at even strength but the special teams killed us. RIT 2-4 on the PP Cornell 0-7. As for being muscled. This is not a big team. I was looking at the program for the 2005 quarterfinals with Clarkson. We started eleven 200 pounds or more players compared to five last night.by rstott - Hockey

Re: 9/29/07: football at Georgetown - 16 years ago
I contacted the Georgetown ticket office and they said they are anticipating a sellout so if you are planning to buy tickets on the day of the game get there early.by rstott - Other Sports
Re: Riley Nash - 16 years ago
If Nash is considering not coming, he'll have to make up his mind damn soon. Freshman orientation begins a week from today.by rstott - Hockey
Re: Bill Gates Hall > goodbye Hoy Field? - 16 years ago
Just keep in mind that this is this year’s master plan. Master plans come and go. I’ve been told that the reason Bradfield Hall is so oddly sited with no entrance onto Tower Road is because the master plan at the time called for building a connecting road from Tower Road to Forest Home Drive so Bradfield would have been on the corner.by rstott - Other Sports

Roeszler looks like a really good pickup, but what's the reputation of the WOJHL?by rstott - Hockey
Re: WHY CORNELL WILL NO LONGER DOMINATE THE ECAC - 17 years ago
If Schafer is changing our style of play, it’s been a big success. We were +21 at even strength, the best in the ECAC. The problem season has been totally, totally special teams. Generally there is a pretty strong correlation between even strength and special teams. Not this year. We were -9 on special teams, next to last after RPI. (Clarkson was +20 ES, +15 ST, Quinnipiac +3 ES, +29 ST).by rstott - Hockey
Re: Recruiting - 17 years ago
How talented is Riley Nash anyway? Word of mouth is terrific, but NHL Central Scouting ranks him 99, which suggests he's good but hardly great.by rstott - Hockey

Re: CU - tUMD postgame - 18 years ago
Overall, a solid Cornell performance. The second period was vintage Cornell hockey. The downer was the overtime. Schafer in the local paper made it clear that he was disappointed by the way we turned it over and generally lost our composure. The real worry has to be the power play – 1/15. Two even strength goals is not good, obviously, but with our style it’s always going to be a struggle at eby rstott - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 @ Harvard 3 postgame thread (11/11/05) - 18 years ago
Harvard's second goal was originally credited to Walsh who took the shot , then changed to Murphy, so it was a delection.by rstott - Hockey
Re: top 30 nhl draft prospects from the ncaa - 18 years ago
So what is it about McKee the NHL doesn't like? Not only is he not a top prospect, but not even drafted. The scouts looked at McKee and concluded that, unlike LeNeveu, he does not have a chance of playing in the NHL. What are they seeing?by rstott - Hockey
Re: Schafer a candidate for Notre Dame vacancy? - 19 years ago
That Schafer has experience coaching at a very academically rigorous school is surely one of the things that makes him attractive to Notre Dame.by rstott - Hockey
Re: [OT LAX] Cornell lacrosse vs. Princeton - 19 years ago
So what's the story with Princeton lacrosse? They dominated the sport for a decade -- six national champiosnhips and NCAA runner up as recently as three years ago. 17 to 4? Have they tightened up on admissions. (It's their former president William Bowen who has made such an issue of the Ivies overemphasizing sports.) Or did they just have a couple of bad recruiting years?by rstott - Hockey
Re: Whither Mike Schafer? - 19 years ago
I think Schafer will be here for some time. I don’t think he’d leave except for a top national hockey program, and I don’t think they’d be interested in him. Scahfer’s teams are associated with a distinctive defensive, somewhat dull, style of play. My guess is that the reaction would be “that’s all very well in the ECACHL, but really wouldn’t work in the WCHA, CCHA, HE and evenby rstott - Hockey

McKee had no chance on the second OSU goal. I reran the tape and you can see the puck deflect off Iggulden's stick.by rstott - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BC post mortem - 19 years ago
Overall, a solid performance by Cornell in both games. They easily could have beaten BC. They clearly are generating more offensive than last year. The most impressive thing about the Maine game was Maine with 10 power plays and only 26 shots on goal. Our shot blocking was really outstanding last night, I've never seen them block shots like that. One of the reasons, unfortunately, that we hby rstott - Hockey

Interesting that Schafer thinks McKee is a great goaltender. It sure didn't sound like he thought that in the in the interview in the Journal's preaseason issue.by rstott - Hockey
Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
I’m almost certain the “sieve†was used by the about 100 or so Wisconsin fans who made their way to Lake Placid in 1970. Some even had sieves on poles they would dangle over the ice as they chanted. I don't really remember if the Cornell fans picked it up then or after the still-painful-in-my-memory NCAAs in 73. Yes, it’s now chanted too much too fast. As is counting up after the gby rstott - Hockey
