dbilmes marty Yes. What is this? When did this touring begin? Perhaps it was back in August of 2024. Has anyone else here ever heard of an every four year European tour allowance? NCAA teams have been allowed to go on one foreign tour every four years for a long time (they can go anywhere overseas). Last year, for example, 61 men's basketball teams went on foreign tours. Swampy The university should consider retiring Mike's jersey number, not because of his HOF achievements in the NHL but because of his extraordinary, lifelong contribution to Cornell Hockey. Totally agree on retiring his jersey number. They probably ought to let Jack O'Brien play his last two years trying to live up to the Schafer standard, then retire #3.by David Harding - Hockey

abmarks here's some more insight on the process from AD Moore, via the Cornell Chronicle. Clearly Syer knew he wasn't the answer. “When Coach Schafer approached me this past spring about his desire to retire, his focus was to support the current student-athletes and to make sure he left the program in the best possible position,” Moore said. “I think, in every way, we are doing that. Might as well post it here. Ithaca Voice picks up press release announcing that Ithaca is going to share a USPHL team, The Elmira Impact, with Elmira. They call it a semi-pro team, but later emphasize that the players don't get paid so they can retain their amateur status. Ithaca games will be at The Rink in Lansing.by David Harding - Hockey

billhoward The Ithaca Voice Regarding the artificial turf controversy, Michaels said “we’re going to have a dialog,” so that issue will continue to be of concern with environmental advocacy groups. “Why aren’t we looking at natural grass here?” asked Chair Glass. “There are some great technologies around.” “Next month I will bring someone who knows more about the sciency stuff. Ken711 I saw in the planning documents going before the Ithaca Town Planning committee that Cornell will build the new field hockey field at the Game Farm road athletic complex, instead of next to the new fieldhouse. They will instead construct a multi-sports field next to the Meinig Fieldhouse. That will allow this multi-sport field to be used by other variety teams, as well as for recreationalby David Harding - Other Sports

Here's the seasonal survey from The Ithaca Voice of current Cornell construction projects. There was a longer story on Duffield/Phillips Hall from yesterday. Scersk '97 ugarte BearLoverI would much prefer they take “mercenaries” for a grad year...i also would take a grad year mercenary if the ivies allowed it! it's the one restriction i can't justify even within the ivy's stated mission/intentions. i was suggesting more that i didn't want the ivies to join in the cutthroat undergrad transfer market (while 100% wanting the students to have the right toby David Harding - Other Sports

CU77 Uncertainty on the attack persists, though, as fifth-year attackman Michael Long did not play or dress for Cornell in its season finale against Dartmouth. Long, who has consistently battled injuries throughout his elongated undergrad, is still a question mark heading into Friday night’s contest. “I hope so,” Buczek said when asked if Long will slot into the lineup for Friday’s game. “Theby David Harding - Other Sports

Ken711 Former Cornell kicker/punter Jackson Kennedy will transfer to Syracuse, he announced on Monday night. Kennedy was an All-Ivy Second Team kicker last year, handling placekicking, punting and field goal duties for the Big Red. CornellBigRed says he is a senior. Additional information from The Ithaca Voice Perhaps most encouraging: College officials said students will be able to complete their current course of study at one of several designated “teach-out” institutions: Manhattanville College, Excelsior University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Keuka College, Le Moyne College, Mercy University and SUNY Brockport. ugarte George64 ugarte George64 My understanding of “red shirting” is that athletes matriculate, practice with their team for a year or two, but not play, but take some classes to ease their academic burden during their following four playing years. Hypothetically, could a non-Ivy athlete practice with his team for two years, but not compete, then play in his final two years, graduate on timby David Harding - Hockey

KenP It looked to me like Ryan was simply switching his stick from one side of his body to the other. Yes, it hit the DU players’s stick but definitely seemed to be without intent. Can a player just let their stick be knocked out of their hand (embellish) to try and draw a penalty? chimpfood Do we know what proportion of the class is from early decision? It seems like a lot of colleges are really leaning into that to improve their yield which then lowers regular acceptance rates, causes students to apply to more colleges regular decision, and makes schools admit even more students early. CU2007 NIT vs Ohio State. That’s kinda cool. NCAA For the third-straight season, the NIT seeded only the top half of the 32-team field. The bottom 16 unseeded teams were placed into the bracket by the NIT Committee as close to their area of natural interest as possible. Columbus, Ohio, is close our area of natural interest? I think I see four top half schools closer to Ithaca.by David Harding - Other Sports

CUDrew0105 The going on to the ice after winning in the quarters went away sometime around 2008. We went on the ice routinely when we won quarters from the late 90's to mid-2000s.
