Re: Men’s Basketball Recruits 2025 - Yesterday
It seems early to start a generic hoops thread, so more thread drift here. Princeton's Caden Pierce, the 23-24 POY, is sitting out this upcoming season so he can take grad year somewhere else and get some sweet NIL money. That's good news for Cornell's chances of making the ILT in its host year. Yale is lock to make the ILT, as they always are, Columbia is mess until proven otherwise, andby mountainred - Other Sports

Watching St. Mary's/Vandy and I had to confirm that the Cornell pronunciation guide from last year said it was Chris MANN-in. It's his name, and Chris would hardly be the first to ask for a change, but I had to double check that I wasn't getting wrong for four years.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball March 2025 - 3 months ago
scoop85 nycred Mañon got paid in the mid-six figures to play at Vandy this year, I imagine AK could probably get something similar if maybe a little less. I think Okereke has become a better player than Manon and should fetch at least as good an NIL package. Hate that AK's Cornell career may be (probably is) over, but I can't fault a family for stopping tuition payments after three years. Haby mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte ugarte scoop85 Mr. Niss disappointing that the Ivy runner up was not seen to merit a bid to the NIT this year ... we pretty well outranked a handful of teams that made the NIT on KenPom Agreed, I wanted to see these guys get at least one more game together. In the first round, Samford (who we beat) is playing at George Mason (who beat us.) Looking at KenPom, there are four teams ranked bby mountainred - Other Sports

arugula That’s a shame. Great coach. Never should’ve left here. Could’ve been a Shaferesque institution. Went for the lottery ticket. Hate to hear it, but you knew he wasn't surviving this season. It packs less of an emotional punch, but Engles is out at Columbia.by mountainred - Other Sports

Cain is the 11th man in Cornell's 10 man rotation. Most games Chris gets 3-4 quiet minutes at the end of the first half, or for a possession before a media timeout, to keep Ragland from picking up an extra foul; he's fine in that role. Kiachian has been a pleasant surprise this year considering his prior Cornell career, and he has helped immensely as a rebounder. Sure, Ragland is a better playby mountainred - Other Sports

For your viewing pleasure, Luke Benz runs a ton of simulationson the Ivy season. (Go to the Ivy League tab). Basically, Yale, Princeton and the Big Red are in great shape for the ILT, and the last team in is a crap shoot. He's a little more bullish on Dartmouth than I am, but it makes an interesting follow.by mountainred - Other Sports

scoop85 While not on a back-to-back, this is the 1st time we’ve beaten Penn and Princeton on the road in the same season since we went 14-0 in the league in 2007-2008. I forgot how bad Princeton was that season until I looked at the box score. Great catch! Man, it really doesn't feel the same this way. Playing around with KenPom, Cornell is the #1 team in nation for both 2 point FG perceby mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball January 2025 - 5 months ago
Huge, huge win, as everybody has said. Shot brilliantly from the line, so whatever was going on against Brown seems to have passed. Tied with Princeton for second in the league, and with the tie-breaker over them, and 3 road wins. First place Yale has only on road win. Gotta hold serve next weekend at home and Dartmouth is a lot more dangerous than in recent years. But the team is in a gby mountainred - Other Sports

chimpfood Terrible coaching at the end there, Jacques NEEDS to call a timeout the second that naz crossed half after that missed free throw but he just let him go. Not to mention how after that naz was trapped under the hoop and we still didn’t call a timeout. And then the last shot being a fadeaway from our big man was icing on the cake. Terrible finish, this loss could come back to hurt us. I wby mountainred - Other Sports

rss77 Got outhustled and outmuscled today. Brown's 2nd chances on shots were the difference. Cornell has had a tough time getting stops on defense this year. Pm Aaron Cooley looked all-world out there.by mountainred - Other Sports

You have to think Brown will be desperate today. They really played poorly in hosting Harvard on Saturday.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball January 2025 - 5 months ago
Not the guys' best effort, but 10 offensive rebounds to Penn's 1. That was huge. And any win at the Palestra is satisfying; the Sweet Sixteen team laid their biggest egg of that season there. Big game Monday. Win and Cornell is three games clear of Brown and probably Columbia. Great position for making the ILT.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball January 2025 - 5 months ago
After the 2014 disaster, I'm happy to see this is as a problem. There really is no way to put lipstick on that Siena loss. It is probably not a surprise to learn that a team wins more when they score more, but the Big Red's record: When they score 80 or more -- 9-0 When they score under 80 -- 0-5.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling 2024-25 - 5 months ago
ugarte It's looking more and more like Greg D. (125) won't be returning to the lineup and I'm concerned about Dellagatta too. If Ungar goes back to 125, leaving 133 to Ferrara, that would be great. Based on the latest from the coach, it's Ungar at 125 and Ferrara at 133. Cornell is sending 6 to an open event at Iowa State this weekend (otherwise open) to build up credentials. Re: Wrestling 2024-25 - 6 months ago
Not to steal Ugarte's thunder, but the Big Red took a dual at Missouri last night 26-12. Neither team was at full strength, but impressive wins by Meyer Shapiro (17-2 TF), Josh Saunders (late takedown and back points to earn a major) and Chris Foca (largely the same deal). Simon Ruiz is probably kicking himself not getting a tech fall in a dominant 14 point win.by mountainred - Other Sports

chimpfood Awful performance, never even got a lead vs Siena at home. We did well at finding cutters for easy lays but just didn’t shoot threes for some reason and played bad defense. The Ivy League games are all that matter anyway but it’s hard not to be pissed off after sitting in Newman for two hours to watch them get handled by Siena and have the Siena fans be even louder than our own. For those who haven't paid a lot of attention to the rest of the Ivies, here is a quick rundown, using KenPom (records as of 12/20): 1) Yale (5-5) -- The computers' Ivy favorite. The Elis are doing what they normally do; the play efficiently, shoot and rebound well and don't turn the ball over. So far on the season they haven't done anything spectacular. Re: Men's Basketball 24-25 - 7 months ago
Hope this shot chat shows up, but you can tell Coach Jacques is a firm believer in new age basketball in that you shoot at the rim or behind the arc. For the game, Cornell took two shots that were neither. A hook by Ryan in the key and Nazier's 10 footer at the very, very end when both teams had stopped playing.by mountainred - Other Sports

ugarte ugarte ugarte I was disappointed to see that RMU was lower than us in KenPom. Iona is ranked around where RMU is. Columbia, at 7-0, still getting no respect from the computers. It is hard to win when you give up 17 offensive rebounds. BobbyMo kept extending possessions which killed off any comeback effort. The defense has to get better, and preventing second chance points would be a great place to start.by mountainred - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 24-25 - 7 months ago
scoop85 Mr. Niss mountainred Hard to imagine the guys actually had a 35-34 lead 15 minutes in, considering what the second half felt like. No question, last night's defense won't win many games. But there is a month and a half to improve and see where we are when league play begins. Next several games are all winnable. Given the way the second half went, the following probably is an oveby mountainred - Other Sports

chimpfood Amazing game over a really good team. It’s always odd to me that we play a fast paced, three point heavy offense that would seem to have highly variable success yet we win almost every non conference game against non power 5 opponents and lose every non con game against power 5 opponents. On to La Salle Tuesday. You would expect more variance, wouldn't you? But since Cornell adoptedby mountainred - Other Sports
