Re: CORNELL WINS 2025 MENS LACROSSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! - 4 weeks ago
Sounds similar to the Michigan field house. I remember a game against them where it was moved to that location at the last minute. Capacity was minimal and the sightlines for the goalkeepers were not what you'd want. Looking it up, we did come away with the W though:by semsox - Other Sports
Re: CJ KIRST WINS 2025 TEWAARATON AWARD - 4 weeks ago
rss77 Let us not forget the great lacrosse goalies we have had: Dan Mackesey, Paul Schmoler, Chase Ierlan, Butch Hilliard, John Griffin and the guys from the 1971 team (Bucky Gunts and cannot recall the other one) I wouldn't have Chayse with this group. In the ~20 years I've been following the team, Matt McMonagle is probably the best I can remember in goal. We then had some really solid goaliby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Men’s Lacrosse - Max Seibald - 5 weeks ago
Al DeFlorio djk26 Speaking of "do everything", I saw a Seibald highlight reel where he was taking faceoffs for Cornell, too. Wow, I did not remember that. Took three in the second half of that Albany quarterfinal and brought Cornell back from a two-goal deficit. Lost two of the three. On one of the ones he lost, he hounded the guy who picked it up and forced a weak pass toward the Albby semsox - Other Sports

Unbelievable that in the last post-game presser of the year, you have the opportunity to ask about the origin on the Freebird goal celebration and let it slip away.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: We will always be disappointed - 5 weeks ago
toddlose semsox I saw in the athletics notes before the game that this would not only be the first Lacrosse title since 77, but the first team championship in any sport for Cornell since then. Bask in it, because it doesn't come around often That’s insane. But hasn’t polo won several times? They may be club team tho. Too lazy to check Last for women was 2016 as of this article. Couldn't ask for a more exciting opportunity for this senior class. I'd like to think both Richmond and PSU were good tuneups stylistically for what Maryland will try to do. LGR.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Memorial Day Weekend Lacrosse Ticket Strategies - 5 weeks ago
Not sure if this is something meant to be sent out more widely, but the Cornell Club of Boston had a discounted ticket link for both the semis and now for the finals. Link to the group is here: I bought both my semifinals and finals ticket through this, and there seems to be quite a few tickets in sections adjacent to 107. They're not hugely discounted vs. just buying directly through TM, butby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Memorial Day Weekend Lacrosse Ticket Strategies - 5 weeks ago
LGR14 Bought Section 108 to be next to 107. Fairly confident Cornell will still be in 107 on Monday. That's where Yale was in 2018 (as the higher seed), and no reason for Cornell to be changed when they're the highest seed in the tournament. Can someone who bought the package in 107 confirm what your Monday tickets say? Cornell will still be in 107. The Cornell block that was released for tby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Albany 5/11 - NCAA Lacrosse First Round - 6 weeks ago
JasonN95 billhoward IIRC, Albany circa 2100 (if not, then Stony Brook?) had a goalie so talented with stick-handling that on Albany man-ups, he played behind the opponent net as a feeder. I think that was Brett Queener, who was Albany’s goalie in the Cornell-Albany 2007 NCAA game. He joined the man-up unit in that game as I recall, with the backup goalie coming to the game for those stretches.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: 2025 NCAA Lax Tournament - Others - 6 weeks ago
I think ND's ceiling was the highest of the remaining team so won't shed tears for them no longer being in the way, but the way in which PSU won that game is the exact reason why I was a bit ambivalent on who I'd rather see. There will definitely be some familiarity with this matchup, as we've played them every year since 2016. We're 3-6 in that time, and of the matches that have been blowouts, aby semsox - Other Sports
Re: NCAA tournament: CU vs Richmond 5/19 - 6 weeks ago
RichH jjanow99 Little to no production from the middies today. Kelleher had zero shots. Need more from them next week. Dalton. Dalton. Dalton, with the hat-trick was enormous. He and Goldstein are the reasons we're packing for the razor stadium. Ryan more than made up for being shut down last week, other than missing TWO empty cages. Firth had the two points, but I thought he made some key plby semsox - Other Sports
Re: NCAA tournament: CU vs Richmond 5/19 - 6 weeks ago
Pretty disjointed feeling half. We were trying to push everything early in possession, to middling success, whereas Richmond was taking the air out of the ball. Don't love the amount of time we're playing defense. Hope Coach B has some adjustments for the 2nd half, which have been a strength of this team.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Is Cornell v Dartmouth a trap? - 2 months ago
I wouldn't say Cascadden is our most important player, but he might be the most critical to reaching the team's overall ceilingby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ Harvard Men's Lacrosse, Saturday, April 19, noon - 2 months ago
Went back and looked at the box score from that 2023 game, and woof. Even with Harvard being much improved, I think you could say the same for us. We were running an attack of Kirst, Brian Piatelli, and Billy Coyle.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ Harvard Men's Lacrosse, Saturday, April 19, noon - 2 months ago
First in person game of the season for me. I went two years ago and saw a pretty disappointing 8-10 loss to a middling Harvard team. Reasonably optimistic going in, but Harvard is legit this year. Hopefully it will end up looking like a good to great W, but a L won't be a resume killer.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lax — 2025 playoffs - 2 months ago
upprdeck a hot goalie or faceoff guy changes any one game While I agree with this sentiment generally, I feel the construction of this team makes them less susceptible to this outcome. Cascadden's floor is sufficiently high to prevent any truly catastrophic face-off outcomes, and our offense is too good to not put up goals. I feel if we're going to lose, it's either going to be in a shootout orby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lax — 2025 playoffs - 2 months ago
djk26 After last year, I'd say the goals are: 1) Get in the tournament. 2) Get a home game. After that it's all a roll of the dice. Of course I'll be disappointed if Cornell doesn't win the national championship this year, since we may not see this level of talent on a Cornell team again for a very long time. But we are going to have to beat strong teams sometime to get there. Whileby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ Brown Men's Lacrosse Saturday, April 5, 2025, 12 noon - 2 months ago
Swampy billhoward djk26 rss77 Credit also to Knust and Cornell's settled defense in 2nd half as the settled defense allowed only 1 goal. Brown's defense clogged things up and ground balls were pretty even. Cascadden also had a huge game. His presence is a big difference from last year. I can see into the future: Cornell recruits a 70% FOGO, we make it as far as the title game, then for his sophomby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2025 - 4 months ago
chimpfood Pretty awful start in non conference play from the ivies and we need to turn it around fast because you don’t get too much of it in lacrosse. A win this weekend against Denver would be big to allow us some margin of error through the rest of the season. Hard agree here. Ivy losses (and maybe wins) will not be looked at kindly at the end of the year. Need to really focus on getting theby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Favorite players of the Schafer era - 5 months ago
marty Ben Scrivens here. I think I'm biased because of the non-assuming demeanor of his parents. I met them in Albany because they were sitting near me and I noticed them cheering for Cornell during or right after the National Anthem. I asked his dad if he was related to anyone on the team or some such and when he responded that he was the goalie's father rather than boasting that he was BEN Sby semsox - Hockey

Asking this very genuinely because I have not followed Men's D1 soccer closely, but what happened that we went from: This on Sept. 28th: chimpfood Loss to Yale that with how bad the Ivy is pretty much puts us out of contention for an at large bid. Gotta get going in league play and win the tournament now. To this on Oct. 20th: chimpfood That loss really hurts. I think all 3 of penn’s goalsby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2025 (preseason) August top 20 - 9 months ago
Not to be blunt, but I kind of feel like the 'concern' being discussed here is not really based in reality? What about our coaching staff over the past few seasons would lead someone to believe they are suddenly dropping the ball on recruiting? What kind of track record do these recruiting lists have that would make one think they should be treated as a true report card on the incoming class? Untby semsox - Other Sports
