Re: Wrestling 2024 Postseason - 6 days ago
Thanks for the recaps ugarte! As a non-wrestling expert who only tunes in for the NCAA's, I'm glad you were just as confounded by Foca's first match. I was watching live, glanced away for one of the basketball games, and when I checked in again, he was shaking hands. I rewound and was just as confused as to how it all happened. Pretty disappointing. Also regarding the Cardenas match, but maybeby semsox - Other Sports

ugarte hell of a season from the most fun team to watch since 2010 by a large margin. Hear hear!by semsox - Other Sports

mike1960 semsox Officiating has not been kind, but we are showing alot of fight Ya can't get in another player's face in college. They'll call that every time. Somehow I doubt the same play made by OSU is resulting in that same call. My comment also wasn't meant to be limited to that play, as OSU has rightfully been playing us very physical given their size/athleticism advantage all game, andby semsox - Other Sports

dbilmes Any word on why Chris Manon isn't playing? Before tip they just described it as a foot injury suffered during the Yale gameby semsox - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: Cornell vs Penn State 3/9/24 - 19 days ago
Just one of those games. Hopefully they're ready for next weekend, a tough Ivy opener @Princetonby semsox - Other Sports

PSU goalie truly out of his mind. I haven't seen anything like this in awhile. We should probably have at least 5 goalsby semsox - Other Sports

Great save by Tully, but then how in the world is that not a push against Box?by semsox - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: Cornell vs Penn State 3/9/24 - 19 days ago
Maybe I take it back after that last PSU save. Firth with no one between him and the keeper from like 8 yards out, stoned by PSU goalie.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: Cornell vs Penn State 3/9/24 - 19 days ago
While they've contributed, the shots PSU is taking seem much cleaner in terms of lanes and space. Everything looking tough for our offense.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: Cornell vs Penn State 3/9/24 - 19 days ago
Actually, Tully is in now, though the commenters have not mentioned it.by semsox - Other Sports

Something needs to be done about the EMO unit. Has been a consistent weak point all year. Also, I'd like to see Tully get some time in netby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - Tewaaraton Award - 20 days ago
billhoward Now that Cornell's extraordinary defender Gavin Adler '23 is gone from the Cornell team, Inside Lacrosse ponders Men's Tewaaraton Watch: Should a Defender Get Serious Consideration? I had a viscerally negative reaction to the question when I saw the article earlier this afternoon, however, after taking a second, it is an interesting thought experiment. While I think Adler is and waby semsox - Other Sports

CU77 Are you sure semsox? I think a lot of the Big Ten games are on BTN only, not B1G+. That's a fair point CU77, and unfortunately the landscape for this is changing every year. I'm not sure how common airing on BTN is vs. going to BTN+. As an example, for this weekend, all of Cornell @ PSU, Brown @ MD, ND @ OSU (Sat games), and Princeton @ Rutgers, Harvard @ Michigan (Sun games) are availableby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Ohio State @ Cornell - 22 days ago
I bought this last year to watch the @OSU game. I watch enough lacrosse generally that I talked myself into the Lacrosse sport package, which gave access to all lacrosse games for all the Big Ten schools, so any good or interesting OSU, PSU, Rutgers, etc. game. I think it was ~$40 for the whole year/seasonby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 26 days ago
79-77 bad guys. Looks like a rematch in the first round of the Ivy tournament is on tap edit: Whoops, thought Yale was the higher team in NET rating. Looks like we'd get the Elis if everything holds next weekby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Ohio State @ Cornell - 26 days ago
Al DeFlorio PSU tips Yale in OT. I think Yale was up 9-2 at one point. Big collapse, though I'd probably rather play PSU off a W than an Lby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 26 days ago
chimpfood Does anyone know if we get the one seed if we win out? I though yale had the tiebreaker over us (NET rating), but the Ivy League standings currently have Princeton, then Cornell, then Yale. This should be the case. First tie-breaker is H2H, which would be tied with Yale 1-1. According to the Ivy website, next criteria is cumulative record against next highest seed outside the tie. Really playing with a fire now. They know the regular season is on the line. Up 3 with just under 10 to go.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 4 weeks ago
I think 'arrogance' is a strong word. Those seniors were getting up for the same practices, running the same drills, etc. for four years. It's not obvious to me that the competitive advantage in this single game isn't worth the sportsmanship and camaraderie advantage that builds over the course of the year and culminates in this acknowledgement of the contributions of these players.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 4 weeks ago
Given the way we blew away Princeton at Newman, not ready to write that game off yet. I also feel because it's so late in the season, it'll be easy to get up for it knowing the stakes. Even going back a few weeks to the @Yale game, there was still a lot of season left to play, so it didn't have the same urgency the Princeton game will hopefully have :::knocks on wood:::by semsox - Other Sports

Am I crazy or has the officiating been really, really favoring Yaleby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 5 weeks ago
CU77 Is Cornell sometimes running 4 attackmen? Firth is technically playing midfield when he’s out there. As far as I know, he’d always been an attackman in HS, but it’s a clever way to get a high lacrosse IQ player out there and also solves the ‘issue’ of he and Kirst both being lefties.by semsox - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 5 weeks ago
May have been a false alarm. Apparently a snow squall moved through the area, and after clearing the field at half time during the women's game, it stayed clear. Very excited for the game, and hopefully they turn out better than the rest of the Ivy has thus far: Penn L to previously 0-2 Georgetown Dartmouth L to previously 0-2 Bucknell Brown L to now 2-0 Quinnipiacby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 5 weeks ago
The women's team is currently playing Cal at Schoellkopf, and from the looks of things, the field conditions are definitely going to play a role in the game.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 6 weeks ago
Not that polls mean anything, but funny that this is the first unanimous preseason pick in the past several years, especially when Yale is also looking very strong coming into the year. On a more interesting note, some posters at LaxForum had some pretty detailed reporting from the Cornell/Albany scrimmage from this past weekend, and it sure sounds like this is going to be a fun, well-balancby semsox - Other Sports
