Re: Ann Coulter On Cornell Hockey - 15 years ago
I despise Ann. Does the administration have the ability to revoke an embarrassing alumnus' (happy?) degree?by RatushnyFan - John Spencer Is Dead

I didn't know that Sasha Pokulok has concussion problems (again). Looks like he's been out since January. Post this article, he hasn't played in a game yet. Get well Sashaby RatushnyFan - Hockey

The question that I would have is why would they trade a decent defenseman from a generally horrible defensive team (even though Anaheim is keeping Pronger, Niedermayer and traded for Whitney)? They already dumped Morrison to cut salary and create cap space. Seems like a great move for Boston.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
Humiliating effort for the Ducks. Niedermayer is a -4 (and make it -7 combined for the family). Ouch. My Michigan rookie friend Matt Hunwick gets an assist on Bitz's goal and a goal of his own after coming back up to the B's from the minors.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Cornell in Pairwise and KRACH - 15 years ago
I'm usually a "just play the game" type* - you have to beat good teams to win a championship - but I wouldn't relish playing Notre Dame in the first round. Getting to the tourney would be nice, at this rate. * Note: I do not, however, yell "drop the puck!"by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
cbuckserRatushnyFanWay to go Ray. Dallas is just decimated with injuries, who would have thought that 5 AHL goals in 48 games would have justified a ticket to Dallas? I wasn't thinking that he'd be the next alumnus (happy?) called up. Congrats, I hope he sticks. When looking to promote an AHL player to be a 4th-line winger, scoring goals in the AHL isn't the first criterion I'd use. I'd ratheby RatushnyFan - Hockey

jtwcornell91Larry72SCORE!!!!!!!!!!! Ray scores for Dallas on a nice backhand shot. Even a better birthday present in his first NHL game. Worked out a lot better than Ross Lemon's birthday. Ouch.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

I hope that it's (1) they had to make a move quickly to make room for Schneider versus (2) they actively shopped him for a while and found no takers despite a modest asking price. It seemed like he was playing alright since his return per the blogs...........but you get what you pay for.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
ftyuvLast note: the singular of "criteria" is "criterion." Oops, thank you, I frequently do that. My criterion excludes players who dressed for a game but did not see any game action. I believe that most hockey databases do not consider sitting NHL experience but no doubt we can debate this until the sun rises. I dug up the data and in my view playing during the game maby RatushnyFan - Hockey

My criteria was playing in a game. I could sit on an NHL bench with the best of 'em.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

I didn't see all of the Devils/Bruins game, but Bitz looked strong! I haven't seen him play in a while, he looked quicker than he did in college and he still towers over almost everyone. He was really hustling and I see from the box score that he played over 13 minutes. Nice job.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
In Zach we trust The Patrick Elias summer hockey camp is pretty good, too. He shows up and he's good with the kids. Two out of three of my kids love the Devils, one punked out and likes the Rangers but he's only 5. There's plenty of time, he'll come to his senses.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
I watch the Devils a lot (let's hear some applause) and I always felt that he was an excellent player who at times simply lost the respect that you're supposed to have for opponents (ie Draper incident, punching that guy when he was on the bench, etc.). Inexcusable? Absolutely.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Pink Uniforms for Late February - 15 years ago
Ithaca holds a special place in my heart. Michigan won a NCAA hockey championship when I was there and I love the business school.....but the undergraduate vs graduate environment is just different. My comment was not meant seriously and everyone has their own opinions of course.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

Lemieux, or as they call him in Detroit and the Draper household: Le Richard (abbreviated). French Rage can translate for you.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Pink Uniforms for Late February - 15 years ago
Jim HylaPersonally I think this is stupid. How much would I spend on a regular worn sweater vs. a pink and black one? Really now, am I going to go out of my way and wear this god-awful sweater to games. I think not. But just my opinion, you understand. How about for your wife/girlfriend? EDIT - I realize I've made a presumption in this post, and it's wrong to presume..........no offense intendby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Fink, reconsidering your question, I believe that the answer for concurrent NHLers is 4, though I can't tell for sure. This probably happened in '92-'93, '02-'03, last year (were Iggy and O'Byrne up at the same time? I think so) and this year. I based my educated guesses on how many games each Cornellian played in a concurrent season.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
I can't tell if they overlapped within a season but here are my figures for seasons with 3+ Cornellians in the NHL: '86-'87: Hayward, Eliot, Dadswell (3 goalies!) '87-'88: Hayward, Eliot, Dadswell, Nieuwendyk. 4. '88-'89: Hayward, Eliot, Nieuwendyk. 3. '98-'90: Hayward, Eliot, Nieuwendyk. 3. '92-'93: Ratushny, Manderville, D'Alessio, Nieuwendyk, Hayward. 5. '95-'96: Huby RatushnyFan - Hockey

scoop85I am pleasantly surprised with Bitz' progress; I thought he was a solid college player, but did not envision playing on the NHL level. Just goes to show you that you don't have to be a superstar in college hockey to make the jump.It doesn't hurt to be 6'5" and about 225 pounds. Smart aleck comments aside, I agree with you. I only saw him play a few times in a Cornell uniform, but hby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Some press on O'Byrne is more positive recently: "Ryan O'Byrne, who has been up and down between the Canadiens and Hamilton, seems to have improved his play during his stint in Hamilton. The complaint we had earlier about him was that he wasn't using his size enough to deliver some solid hits. In the game against Boston, O'Byrne dished out six hits. It is a beginning and if he doesn't scby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Postgame Thread: Yale 4 @ Cornell 3 - 15 years ago
rediceAnd, what is the record for 4-on-4 goals in a game. Three seems like an extraordinary number.7 EDIT - before everyone asks how I know that, consider the following: Doorman: Name? Fletch: Ah... Irwin M Fletcher. Irwin Mahatma Fletcher. Doorman: Address? Fletch: 7. I always just say 7 when I don't know the answer. It seems to be working well for me.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: "Men's Hockey Rejects Policy of Payback" - 15 years ago
I've been following the UM/MSU situation (went to grad school @ UM)............the Michigan kid who got jacked up was the same kid who got body slammed by a football player and broke a few vertebrae. Apparently his father went into the visitors locker room and was about to get into it with one of the MSU "assailants" who had been booted from the game. It was a bad situation all aroundby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Hockey no more popular now than last year - 15 years ago
The real question is student apathy - "None" increased from 26% to 31%. Holy $hit! And interest in lacrosse is plummeting despite having a good team. Sample size is increasing but results are still +/- 4% so hard to make many real conclusions.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
