Trotsky 17 Boston University 2-5-0 WTF?I wonder if more college hockey fans are questioning that or Cornell's #3 ranking. Niagara, Dartmouth and Harvard - we haven't played anyone that tough yet (though at least we've won). I would rank several other teams ahead of Cornell at this point based on early season results. It's early and there's a lot of parity so far. Michigan is 4-4 and thby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Re: Has this ever happened? - 14 years ago
TrotskyThe opposite has happened: Cornell played a Canadian college team in the early 90's with a Cornell alum player on it (IIRC, Stu Smith). I remember Stewart Smith. He played for us for four years. I didn't realize that you could play four years for a U.S. university and then play for a Canadian university. How many years of college hockey did he end up playing?by RatushnyFan - Hockey

Sharks were awful last night. Caps rejuggled their top two lines and at least so far dividing up the talent seemed to work. Off topic: anyone see that 9 year old trick shot? It's pretty tough to do that even at half speed.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni In The Pros - October 2009 - Coliseum - 14 years ago
Douglas and the Sharks are off to a slow start. Doug got caught napping for a split second on Jack Johnson's goal. That has to be frustrating as it's annoying enough just to have to look at Jack Johnson.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: (Non-Cornell) College Hockey on TV - 14 years ago
Sadly, I watched some of that game. Was 1-1 going into the 3rd period before UND blew them out.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni In The Pros - September 2009 - 14 years ago
I didn't see the whole game, but I saw part of the Sharks game on Versus and it looked like Doug had a bit of a rough night. I'm sure they'll get it together, there's a lot of talent on the team. I saw most of the Caps/Bruins, I'm sure that Bitz will get more minutes per game over time. Caps looked good, I think they've improved with the addition of Morrison and Knuble. I thought the mostby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Not sure where to put this but USCHO is saying that Shaun Hannah resigned as Sacred Heart's coach. I wonder where he's headed.....or if he's hanging up the skates. The timing seems a bit close to the upcoming season. Shaun Hannah Resignsby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: The Sutter Family of Academia - 14 years ago
Interesting that the Sutter Family of Hockey had six brothers play in the NHL and four of them went on to NHL coaching or GM duties. But it wasn't a 100% hit rate like your family. I'll say the hockey Sutters are more impressive as making the NHL is in most cases a more exclusive accomplishment. Plus there was a seventh brother who apparently could have made the NHL but had other commitments.by RatushnyFan - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Forbes.com's take on America's Best Colleges - 14 years ago
I find it somewhat amusing that I was accepted to both Penn and U. Chicago and they were distant second and third choices for me. I wouldn't change my decision over 15 years later (even if I hadn't met my future wife at Cornell, which I did!). I'm sure others have similar stories.by RatushnyFan - John Spencer Is Dead

It appears from the depths of Google that Dan Ratushny has left his law career and is coaching in the National League B (Switzerland). I had to use Babblefish to translate the Web page. Note the obscure picture and the comical translation. Ratushny Update Best of luck to Dan.....he could probably still play in the first defensive pairing. Re: 2009 CU Hall of Fame class includes two hockey players - 15 years ago
Is anyone surprised that Jason Elliot is on this list? When I think of all the great players since the last hockey HOF inductee (Joe Nieuwendyk/Doug Dasdwell '88), I'm a little surprised that Elliot made the cut (14th on Cornell career GAA at 2.89, 8th in career save % at 0.910, 45 career wins) but a player like Doug Derraugh with over 150 career points hasn't been honored. Re: Joe Nieuwendyk named Dallas Stars General Manager - 15 years ago
First move is an aggressive one - firing a great coach in Dave Tippett. Stars had significant injury problems last year and Turco had an off year but I thought that Tippett performed well over time. I'm sure that he has his reasons and he's forgotten more about hockey than I'll ever know. The interest in Crawford is surprising...........he seems to wear out his welcome quickly wherever he goesby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - April 2009 - 15 years ago
You need to be able to beat the Ducks if you expect to win the Cup. The Ducks are better with Jonas Hiller in net and the late season tinkering seems to have worked. I like Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan a lot, they both skate hard all the time. Defensively they've improved as well, even though they dumped Montador (I thought he was a solid contributor). Despite all their improvements, shame on the Sby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - April 2009 - 15 years ago
Parros has got Douglas in terms of 'stache quality. Douglas has him in terms of hockey game (and contract value by a long-shot). I watched about 50 Ducks games this year and Parros isn't awful, he's a better than average goon in terms of being able to play a little hockey and create a few chances without being a huge defensive liability out there. Maybe it's just the 'stache, I dunno (don't knby RatushnyFan - Hockey
