Re: WJC Gold Medal Game ON TV - 19 years ago
On Sunday they were saying it would only be on if the U.S. was in the championshio game. I sent them an email urging them to broadcast the game. I explained that if people were watching, it was because they were avid hockey fans and not because they were U.S. nationalists, and that the average U.S. hockey fan watching the tournament probably knew more about Crosby than they did about Kessel. Re: BC Will Be Without Schneider - 19 years ago
So far they've been strictly alternating Katiainen and Schneider. Had this rotation continued, since they've got one game left before the Everblades, we would have gotten Schneider, but Kaltianinen is an extremely solid goalie also. I'm sure he, and the rest of the BC squad, will be wanting to prove something after having been beaten by us in the NCAA's in '03.by jkahn - Hockey

The Grizzlies, with Lenny in goal, beat the Wolves 4-3 tonight. Bâby scored early in the third from close rage, going high glove side, to give the Wolves a 3-2 lead at the time. It was his only shot of the game. Lenny had 26 saves. As Delta One presumed, Comcast Cable (Chi) is different than Comcast Sportsnet (Chi). Re: Davy at the Everblades - 19 years ago
Grant, I've got Craig Brush's email address after meeting him down there at the 2000 tournament. To speed the process, I'll email him and copy you - suggesting that he tell you to whom the CD should be sent. By the way, how can I mail order a CD? JTW, Good thought. It was definitely bugging me last year that they weren't playing Davy. Oldtimers like me don't even know the new songs.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
Correcting my earlier post, it certainly could have been '70 when I first heard "sieve" from those 100 Wisconsin crazies. By '72 and then '73 their ranks seemed to grow to about 3000, and so the long, slow "sieve" cheer, which they carried on in unison in Boston Garden for probably two full minutes is emblazoned in my mind more than their '70 chants. I know we enjoyed the enby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
Yes, the first time I heard a goalie referred to as a "sieve" was by Wisconsin fans in '72. They did it in a much slower (and in my opinion more effectve) cadence.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Who stole whose cheers? - 19 years ago
The "Screw BU" music was first heard by me from the BC band, with the words "Go BC." Other schools, particularly BU, began to use it a lot, and we turned it into "Screw BU" by the '71-72 season, perhaps a few years earlier. Wisconsin fans get credit for the first known use of "x too" in '72 NCAA's. The BU band would play, the Cornell fans (joined by Wisby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Humbling Weekend - 19 years ago
Just got home from East Lansing. My thoughts about the team are not much different after the weekend than they were before. I told several Faithful before game 1 that we'd be playing against a whole different level of talent than we had before, and I think that was the case. There are players available to Michigan State and other big time progams that Cornell can't recruit for a myriad of reasby jkahn - Hockey
Re: 11/12: Cornell 1 Michigan State 1, final (ot) - 19 years ago
(East Lansing report) Simply put, Mcee was awesome. It could have easily been 6-0 after one period. Great position, great reaction, never rattled, quick glove. I don't think I've seen a better game by a Cornell goalie, and I was there for all three Dryden years. I spoke with David at the reception after the game and he said "it was a lot of fun out there" but added that "it's aby jkahn - Hockey

Hope to meet some of the Faithful at the Harrison Roadhouse pre-game on Friday. I had posted recently received info regarding a post-game reception on the "Michigan State Roll Call" thread, but since that's currently on page 2 as I write this, I'll post an abbreviated version here, excerpted from an email I received. Re: How many draft picks on MSU? - 19 years ago
Don't know the total, but they had 4 picks in the 2004 draft, including A. J. Thelen, in the first round, 12th overall. INCH rated their incoming class this year as fifth in the nation. Cornell was not listed in their top 15.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Michigan State - Roll Call - 19 years ago
Just received the following from Jill Welch, who coordinates from Ithaca with the local alumni groups, regarding events around the games. I had called Jill about a month ago to ask if there were any Cornell events scheduled for the weekend. Re: Penn hockey history on USCHO - 19 years ago
I was at the Jan. '69 game at Cherry Hill. My friends and I would routinely bring hats to games in anticipation of throwing them for hat tricks. Strangely, nobody was really doing this at Lynah until we started, although it seems like I remember more road hat tricks than home. Knowing there was a good chance of needing hats that day, we drove into Philly and found a hat store (there were actuby jkahn - Hockey

I asked a buddy of mine who's an MSU alum ( and who still goes there for football games and to visit his son) for recommendations on a possible gathering spot for Cornell hockey fans. He suggested the Harrison Roadhouse (corner of Harrison and Michigan) which is on the NW edge of the campus and a few minutes walk from Munn Arena. www.harrisonroadhouse.com He said it was "a good place forby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Michigan State games help or hurt Cornell? - 19 years ago
These will be important and difficult games. Michigan St. had an excellent team last year, didn't lose much by graduation and had an excellent freshmen class. This year's freshmen are supposed to be excellent too. While off to a disappointing start by their standards, they're likely to come on strong. They've also been playing and practicing longer than we have, so we certainly shouldn't undeby jkahn - Hockey

If anyone needs Friday lodging, I've got an extra hotel reservation for Friday night only, at the Marriott TownPlace Suites, $71+tax, which is about a 4 to 5 minute walk from the east side of the MSU campus. I had booked one room for two nights (which I'm using) and one for just Friday, as I wasn't sure if I'd be spending Saturday night visiting friends in Detroit. Re: New Recruit - 19 years ago
Lodboa played left wing his entire sopomore year, '67-'68, then played only left defense thereafter. At the beginning of his junior year he had no shot from the point whatsoever, to the point where it was almost comical. However, all of the sudden (I'm sure after a lot of practice), he had this great slapshot which showed up at a Christmas break tournament in Boston. Everyone had been overplayby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Best cheers, best insults - 19 years ago
The practice was that Cornell took the closed end except when some other team made a big stink about it. I don't know why the refs ignored that rule so universally, unless there was tacit understand around the league that the home team always got its choice. General courtesy was that the home team had its choice. I only remember one game during my years there when we wound up skating the otherby jkahn - Hockey

There was a fair amount of number changes in the late '60's -early '70's, as upperclassmen took numbers that became available when others had graduated. Brian Cornell 16 sophomore year '66-'67, then 8 after Doran graduated McCutcheon 18 as a soph '68-'69, then 9 after Tufford John Hughes - 3 years 3 numbers, 10, 20, and finally 21 Kevin Pettit - 10 as a soph, then 7 (after McGuinn) Bob McGby jkahn - Hockey
