With Edmonton picking up Cam Talbot today for draft picks, Ben Scrivens is facing likely diminshed playing time with the Oilers, assuming no further deals.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2014 - 9 years ago
Former Cornell commit Michael McCarron will be playing for the Oshawa Generals in the Memorial Cup Final tonight (NHL Network at 7 EDT). As a scout for the Sabres said to me in Florida in December, Michael may be the only player to commit to three different NCAA teams and attend none of them. He first committed to Michigan State approximaely at the beginning of ninth grade, then switched to Corby jkahn - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 Schedule - 9 years ago
Per Merrimack website, they'll be playing two at Cornell in 2015-16. With BU, Providence and possibly BC, our OOC games will be heavily Hockey East.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 Schedule - 9 years ago
Swampy Why are there two threads with the same title? because I didn't find the old thread when I posted the Florida tournament dates and pairings yesterday. I assume Age or Beeeej will consolidate the two eventually.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Origin of "Red!" during national anthem? - 9 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 marty Trotsky RobbFunny thing about traditions - when you hear it for the first time, you just always assume 'twas always thus. I had no idea the tradition was so "young" when I heard it first.I never knew "x too" began in 1980. When I first heard it in the fall of 1981 I assumed it was ancient. I'm losing it perhaps? I thought it was done in the fall of 'by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 9 years ago
ACM For me, the hierarchy is pretty clear: BU - Brian Kelley, BU's AAD for Communications, is an IC grad, and a former assistant director of athletic communications at Cornell, and an all-around good guy who I'd be happy to have associated with a national championship. And it's the only chance we'll have next year to knock off the defending national champions, when we play BU at the Garden.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 - 9 years ago
Jim Hyla Vesey is coming back. For real good players, a 4th year after being drafted can be an advantage. Vesey can be a free agent after Aug. 15, 2016. Kevin Hayes used that to his advantage last year, signing with the Rangers although having been drafted by Chicago.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Red Hot Hockey returns to MSG in 2015 - 9 years ago
Trotsky dbilmes Will Jack Eichel be there as well? If he turns pro after being most likely the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NHL draft, he will never have experienced the thrill of Red Hot Hockey! That should be enough incentive for him to stay in school for another year. It's what all Ontario boys dream of. (Either that or the limitless consequence-free sex.) He's from Massachusetts.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regionals - 9 years ago
RichH redice Iceberg 6-5 Providence now with 1:33 to go. The Friars just haven't been able to hit the empty net. Yes, and when I saw that PC player heading toward an ENG, I couldn't help but flash back to Randy Wilson & wonder why the current PC player didn't skate the puck right to the net (instead of shooting from a ways out). Apparently, he's not read the PC hockey history books....by jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regionals - 9 years ago
ugarte upprdeck say what we want about lack of offense, but several games were low scoring affairs to show that defense can win games in this thing too. In the first two rounds, one NCAA tournament quality team won with fewer than three goals while playing another NCAA tournament quality team. We regularly scored one or fewer goals against schools like Princeton. There were actually three winby jkahn - Hockey

Re: NCAA Regionals - 9 years ago
Yale 1 - BU 0 after 2. Strong period by Yale for first 14 minutes or so - then BU came on strong after Yale scored. Eichel is very, very good.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regionals - 9 years ago
BU-Yale scoreless after 1. BU had somewhat the better of the play, although Yale had a few good opportunities on BU turnovers.by jkahn - Hockey

The unseeded guy who upset Garrett just won his semi by fall in 52 seconds. Garrett's loss doesn't seem so bad, since this guy is beating everyone.by jkahn - Other Sports

Matt Moulson got his 150th career goal and 300th career point last night in the Sabres 3-1 loss to the Rangers.by jkahn - Hockey

KeithK scoop85 ugarte Hwt: JAP's struggle continues. He got the first takedown but gave one up in regulation also, so it went to SV tied at 3. He gave up another takedown for a 5-3 loss resulting in a 21-9 CORNELL WIN that was a lot closer than the team score indicated. I watched most of the match, and you're right-on -- it was thrilling, and a lot closer than the final score. Thanks for the lby jkahn - Other Sports
Re: Cornell at RPI - 9 years ago
Trotsky CAS 2 of the recruits due to arrive in the fall are NHL draft picks - one taken in the 3rd round and one in the 5th round. That's Starrett and Angello. Both are big (6-5). Here are their numbers this year: Angello: 9-7-16 with 43 PIM in 30 GP for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. He's 6th on a team whose leading scorer is 10-26-36. Starrett: According to Elite Prospects he hasn't plaby jkahn - Hockey

Re: Florida hockey tournement - 9 years ago
Since no one posted the lineup changes from Sunday to Monday, here they are; LSSU game only: Weidner, Yates, Tiitinen, P. McCarron, with Gillam starting in goal Miami only: Rauter, Stoick, Bardreau, Anderson, with Stewart starting in goal but replaced after the 3rd goal by Gillam.by jkahn - Hockey

imafrshmn Jim Hyla Interesting stats in the final "lives stats ". Miami Cornell Shot Attempts 44 39 Those blocked 9 11 Shots through 35 28 Shots on goal 26 15 Very good find. The damning statistic, to me, is the ratio of shots on goal to shots attempted. 38% for Cornell vs. 59% for Miami. I will be interested to hear some eyewitnby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Florida hockey tournement - 9 years ago
marty tominvb Ouch My bad, this 68 year old missed the goaltender switch. Thought Gillam came on in he beginning of the period. After the score we had a group discussion looking away from the ice. Again gujys my bad. My statement that Stewart's try out may be over still stands. Thanks for the correction. One other point which, due to no video can be debated, is that the second goal waby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Florida hockey tournement - 9 years ago
At the rink, it was announced that the shootout would be 5 players for each team. As soon as Miami got the goal in the bottom of the fourth, Matt Buckels jumped on to be the fifth Cornell shooter. Cornell clearly thought it was five shooters, LSSU thought it wasn't, as they started to celebrate when they scored. Regardless, it's a tie. The game was very ragged, with little tspe-to-tape passinby jkahn - Hockey

jkahn Miscellaneous thoughts: 1) With Paul MacLean out as Ottawa coach, will Colin Greening escape for the doghouse? He's been a healthy scratch for most games. 2) Don't know how many noticed, but Adam Lowry (Joel's younger brother by 16 months) is a rookie with the Winnipeg Jets. He's been playing regaularly and in 27 games he's 2g 2a -3 28 PIM. Adam went the Jr. A route. After playing in oby jkahn - Hockey
