George64 Trotsky I really want guys with local connections to be our announcers. The pros are Whore Time. College should be Local Kid Makes Good Time. I miss Sam Woodside! I'll always remember the football game in Hanover when Sam said Dartmouth was in dark green and Cornell in dark white.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Dryden exemplifies what college sports should be about, but rarely are. Swampy December 28, 1966 I was driving, either to NYC or Boston, and, in the middle of nowhere, heard that Cornell had beaten Kentucky in basketball. (They only started to call it "men's basketball" years later.) I thought I had entered the twilight zone and almost ran off the road. It probably was WHCU. BearLover Jack Cascadden (previously class of ‘26) is listed on his LinkedIn as graduating in 2027. Presumably he has taken/will take off two semesters to preserve eligibility after he tore his ACL. I wonder if AJ Nikolic will do the same after missing last season. With Cascadden having two more years of eligibility I am bullish on the next two seasons. We’ll be winning faceoffs and getting tby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

CU77 Massey computes offensive and defensive ratings based on his own proprietary methodology which does take into account opponent strength. He has Cornell 2025 at #11 defense, #1 offense. Defensive ranking in prior years: 2024 #27; 2023 #14; 2022 #4 Change the year in the URL to see other years. Don't do this to him. He'll have nothing to whine about.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

1970 NCAA final vs. Clarkson highlights are there. Would like 1970 ECAC final. Also, would like 1966 ECAC quarter and semi to see the Ferguson twins at their best.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Am I the only one unaware of the weekly lacrosse podcasts done by Jonathan Donville and Dan Arestia? Just stumbled on to these on youtube and think they are very informative with little extraneous chit-chat. Re: Last-minute discounts to attend Syracuse Class of '29 - 3 months ago
billhoward NY Times article says Syracuse, riding a record wave of Class of 2029 applicants, may have been too stingy doling out financial aid. Too many admits chose elsewhere. And then Syracuse had to offer generous discounts post-May 1 to get desired candidates to decommit elsewhere. Not surprisingly, nobody at Syracuse is available for comment. The school currently stands at #73 on the US Newsby Al DeFlorio - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward Millman was .737 at Cornell in 2-1/2 seasons (including Covid 2020). At Hopkins, Millman .519 in 5 years. His mixed success at Hopkins suggests he might not be able to win at the highest levels consistently. I believe there is something special about Connor Buczek that got Cornell to the 2022 final and then to the pinnacle last month. I'd also like to have a Cornellian coaching. CU77 Re the 2022 championship game, and taking off the carnelian tinted glasses: yes, the final score was 9-7, but undefeated #1 seed Maryland led 9-2 late in the first half. It was a hot day, it was the 2nd game in 3 days, and the Terps realized they were in full control. So they let up a bit. Had Cornell made a serious threat to win (they did not), I have no doubt that the Terps would have comeby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

BearLover mike1960 I’ve been listening to podcasts about championship weekend, and almost universally, commentators have been happy for the Cornell win. Part of the reason is the length of time between championships. Another is the culture and tradition of the program. Also, players they’ve interviewed have given thoughtful and respectful answers to questions. It’s been very satisfying to hear hoby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

George64 CU77 Dryden did backstop the one-loss 1967 hockey team to an NCAA championship as a "sophomore sensation" (Cornell Daily Sun description of him after an early season win), and IIRC he did not play in that one loss. You are correct, Dave Quarrie, a senior, played in two games that year, including a 3-4 OT loss to Yale at Lynah. His GPG average was 2.86, almost double Dryden 1by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

Swampy I don't wish to diminish Richie in any way, but the honor of establishing Cornell as a lacrosse power should go to Ned Harkness. In 1941, he became a volunteer coach of RPI's new lacrosse club. After serving as a bombardier in the RCAF during WWII, in 1945, he became the coach of RPI's new varsity lacrosse team. Re: Cornell Men’s Lacrosse - Max Seibald - 3 months ago
djk26 Speaking of "do everything", I saw a Seibald highlight reel where he was taking faceoffs for Cornell, too. Wow, I did not remember that. Took three in the second half of that Albany quarterfinal and brought Cornell back from a two-goal deficit. Lost two of the three. On one of the ones he lost, he hounded the guy who picked it up and forced a weak pass toward the Albany goalie tby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

mike1960 BearLover mike1960 I just re-watched the 4th quarter. MD kind of self destructed. Highly unusual for a Tillman team. 2 failed clears. An offsides. An offensive hold. That's four possessions lost when they desperately needed them. I would give Cornell more credit. All year long they’ve had an incredible ride and outlasted teams in the second half. Maryland had trouble with Cornell’s pressby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

BearLover Some scattered thoughts: —I almost commented before the game yesterday that I was cautiously optimistic about the game in large part because Jayson Singer has done a great job this year locking down the other team’s best scorer. In Penn State’s case a lot of their scoring was coming from Traynor, and I liked Cornell’s defense against an offense based around one top scorer. —I saw Boxby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

djk26 George64 billhoward I still want the OT rule changed, and not just because of Syracuse 15 years ago in the title game. It'd be insane to say first OT bucket wins in basketball. Even the NFL is changing playoff games so both teams get a shot at the ball. So why not lacrosse in playoff overtime? Agreed. Lacrosse isn’t hockey where goals are relatively few. In lax, win the face off and youby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
