Re: Season's Over - 4 years ago
Trotsky BearLoverIt is bizarre to me that some on this forum would prefer to act as though this season reached a real conclusion rather than honor the players whose season was cut short. But to be honest I am all for burning one fan in effigy to honor the team. As long as we can vote. Hint: this year it aint you. Maybe if we did it as a sacrifice to the Hockey Gods a few weeks ago, itby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
upprdeck I dont think thats a done deal. the NCAA allows 5 yrs and the IVYS just need to allow 5 and then get waivers for the SRs who want to come back. The players would also need to know if they have to fail classes to stay undergrads, or would the IVYs allow an exception to let them play as grad students.by nshapiro - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio First, very early, look at the NCAA tournament bubble. Interesting comment about the 2019 decision. The committee, as always, will prioritize whichever criterion gets Hopkins into the tournament.by nshapiro - Other Sports

Jeff Hopkins '82 Trotsky adamw TrotskyMy guess is it comes down to the voter. Adam can tell us if they get any guidance re: what to consider. Last time I had anything to do with voting was 1999. But it's probably not any different in the fact that no guidance is given. You're lucky if the voters bother to look at a boxscore. I have a plan. But is it a cunning plan? Trotsky Swampy Which is the bigger trap game: CU vs SLU or CLK vs COL?Good question. SLU did us a huge favor in slamming Harvard but I'd say it's still more likely a trap because it's at home. You're always more on your guard when you travel. That would actually be a cool analysis: do the really huge upsets tend to happen more frequently at home? Re: Incoming Recruits - 4 years ago
Swampy Trotsky BearLover The last 4-5 recruits have looked pretty solid. Likely a product of our success the last four seasons. It's hard to tell. I guess maybe if they went in the juniors draft we could measure it by their draft position, but we really do not know until they go in the NHL draft or they get here and we can actually see them. I've never really known how to quantify commitments.by nshapiro - Hockey

Trotsky French Rage KenP Swampy Dafatone scoop85 Even if CLK were to say, lose to Harvard, and we ran the table until the finale, running the script confirmed that CLK would hold the tiebreaker if they beat us in the last game and we end up with the same points. abmarks Swampy The graphs may be misleading because although Krach & SOS are measured in similar orders of magnitude, their ranges are drastically different. So instead of a stacked bar chart, side-by-side bars with the SOS scale at the right would give a visual impression more reflective of the teams’ relative standing. Of course, the visual impression would reflect a tacit linearity in theby nshapiro - Hockey

marty BearLover adamw RobbThat’s why there would be a range of final PWR ratings for each team - in some of the trials, Cornell will be unlucky and lose a bunch of games to worse teams, and in some trials they won’t. That’s where the histogram comes in - so you can see the range of possibilities and get an estimate of how likely each of those possibilities appears to be (again, assuming that eacby nshapiro - Hockey

Trotsky Robb Wow - you aspire for “valuable?” Way outta my league. I’d settle for being thought to provide mildly interesting or amusing inputs occasionally. I'll give you "mildly." Perhaps even "tepidly." I think I'd stop short at "moderately," though. That's a high bar. I too suffer from delusions of adequacyby nshapiro - Hockey

djk26 I've always wanted the NHL to do 4 points for a regulation win, 3 points for an OT win, 2 points for a shootout win and 1 point for a shootout loss (and 0 points for a loss before the shootout.) I wonder if that would incentivize teams to be more aggressive to try to score. Probably not.
