Re: What I Did For (Sports) Love - 18 years ago
I heckled Mike Gilligan (former Vermont coach) loudly. The unique part of it was that it was about an hour before the game and Grady (I think it was him, it was circa 1990) was interviewing him in the press/scout seats. There were about 10 people in the building and he just kept looking at me..........why on earth does this kid care this much? Kind of inappropriate I guess but I didn't curse aby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Re: Alumni Game? - 18 years ago
Anybody know if Chartrand is hanging up the skates or if he's going to try to play again? I was surprised that he didn't either play in the AHL or in Europe last season given that he's not necessarily in the Kings plans. Also, if anybody spoke to the early 90's guys - Derraugh, Nobel, Deschamps, Dragon - I'd be curious what they're up to. Eric Hansen '92by RatushnyFan - Hockey

They need to get a deal done so that they can sell season tix........to those like me who can't give it up no matter how bad they treat us. Probably also have a few contracts to sign (at a discount I hear).by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Slope Day - tix for alumni - 18 years ago
For those who missed it Snoop Dogg was great ........ my ears were ringing for a day or two afterwards. And Ithaca is still fantastic. Talked to Pep at length and he ran through what happened with Lee and that the two buyers of his stake had left town and were shirking on their barkeeping responsibilities. Hey - I'm young in spirit, if 35 in reality. You're never too old to visit beautiful Ithaca and if you have the chance to get liquored up on the slope, why not? Besides, Pep misses us ......... mysteriously a big chunk of his cash flow disappeared circa June 1992. 300 tix "reserved" for alumni .......... you have to go to the Alumni House at 8 am on Slope Day to purchase them. They cross check your I.D. with the alumni database.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

Thanks to Scersk and gobigred24 for responding to the question at hand with helpful information. And thanks to Beeeej for hanging around on the fringes, pulling out the Strunk & White/Elements of Style crap. Sorry for the non-hockey thread ......... A buddy and I are headed back to Ithaca for some relaxation (read: drinking) slope day weekend. Apparently they're a bit more uptight than they used to be in our day when you just showed up with your case of beer. In any event, students need to buy tix in advance for "friends". He definitely seconded my notion that the western teams are far better skaters (in general, not specifically compared to Cornell). But he did flat out say that Cornell would have won the game on a smaller ice sheet. I haven't agreed with this on other threads but he's the expert. Good to see that he's taking notice. What about if we played on small ice but MN actually had their best forward (Hirsch) and one of their top PP defenseman (Goligoski) in the game? It's fine that we're all drinking the Kool-aid here on eLynah. I thought that we lost the UNH game in 2003, although again we had a very good team, for just about the same reasons: need a little more speed and a little more scoring punch. [I think we were quite fortunate to be tied ...... and as I've said in other posts we played nearly a technically perfect game. We don't beat this team on the smaller ice IMHO because they would still dominate us in terms of shots and chances. And this team probably isn't the best team in the country. These guys are practically kids so I hate to criticize them. My question on O'Byrne on the OT goal is: was he totally gassed? The guy didn't move, he just put his skate out. Why not use your body a bit more? The guy who took the puck was much smaller, albeit pretty quick. It didn't seem like O'Byrne moved much after his pocket was picked.
