Re: Tampa Bay wins the cup - 19 years ago
Yep, and when they start losing (as inevitably they will), all those fans will jump right off the bandwagon. And you almost made my point: my Rangers had 200 fans more per game during a multi-season "so bad we're missing the NHL playoffs, which 60% of the teams in the league make" skid. So I will not chill out: overexpansion has killed the NHL, both for the teams involved by thinnby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Tampa Bay wins the cup - 19 years ago
I think it's fitting that a team with no fans won the Cup. I personally hope the NHL goes bankrupt, and some of the older teams with fans form a new, smaller league (12 teams or so) and just leave it at that. I hate watching the Rangers play and lose to teams whose names I don't even recognize, and apparently whose home cities are full of people who also don't recognize them. I don't give a crap, honestly: if it isn't the Rangers, I don't care. But I thought I'd point out that one of the guys we were deriding as a midget several years ago---one Martin St. Louis formerly of UVM---will shortly (no pun intended) be drinking from Lord Stanley's Cup. How many of our players from '94-'98 can say that? Just food for thought. Cheers, Kyleby Kyle Rose - Hockey

Yet another year with a crappy NC schedule, combined with a mostly-crappy ECAC schedule. As I've said numerous times, if you want to compete with the big boys, you need to play them more regularly. Kyleby Kyle Rose - Hockey

Robb Wrote: Yeah, but UNC women's soccer also won 16 championships in those 22 years. Why is there so little parity in women's sports (see UNC soccer, UConn/UT basketball, UMinn/UMD in hockey, etc)? Probably because the talent pool is much smaller, so when one school begins to dominate, the best players all want to play there, which perpetuates the cycle. Cheers, Kyleby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: [LAX] Cornell vs Navy NCAA QF Game thread - 19 years ago
Biggest problem to my eyes was the sheer number of turnovers. In the 4th quarter alone, Cornell must have turned over the ball at least three times, and as it seems possessions in lacrosse are much longer than in hockey, a turnover is a huge deal. Navy seemed like a much better team overall: their possessions were longer, they relied less on the skill of their goalie and more on team defenseby Kyle Rose - Hockey

I just think it's an inane rule. I honestly couldn't give two shits who won the game, but to have it decided on a technicality is just ridiculous. Re: F**K!!!! - 20 years ago
What's with this ECAC loyalty? I personally couldn't give two shits about the ECAC: as far as I am concerned, the suckage of so many teams in the ECAC is part of what keeps Cornell down, because 15+ of our regular season games are against opponents that simply aren't on the same level as the best from the other conferences, and IMO playing up is always better than playing down. I'm rooting for Clarkson. They were our prime rival in the late 90's, and are a quality team notwithstanding the behavior of a certain goon we all know and love.
